The WWE Championship will be on the line on the first Raw of the new year.
Keith Lee defeated Sheamus on Raw tonight to become the number one contender to Drew McIntyre's WWE Championship. McIntyre will defend his title against Lee on Raw next Monday (January 4).
Lee pinned Sheamus in the number one contender's match after hitting a Spirit Bomb. McIntyre was on commentary for the match and Lee went face-to-face with him after it was over.
After dissension between them throughout the night, last week's Raw ended with Sheamus laying out Lee with a Brogue Kick. McIntyre, Sheamus & Lee had defeated AJ Styles, The Miz & John Morrison in a holiday street fight in last week's main event.
