Im Delia Goncalves live outside the wilson building. Mayor Muriel Bowser here trying to come up with her own Crime Fighting plan. And will ask the city council to help her in this effort. She wants the police to have more power in fighting some of the crime and getting repeat offenders off the streets. This follows her push to get illegal guns off the streets. In fact, take a look at these pictures that we just received to the wusa9 newsroom. Three illegal guns seized during a traffic stop last night. Npd telling us five people were arrested. The mayor will ask the city council to expand the law closing the loophole, she says, so officers can search the cars or homes of people on probation and immediately lock up anyone whos found in violation. But the union fears that this could put officers in danger seeing that they would conduct these searches not even knowing the background of these individuals. Obviously probation officers usually handled by the court. So certainly a lot to iron out. The plan still in development phase. The city council will come back to session in about a couple of weeks and they will take up this effort when they do return to the wilson building. Were live here downtown, Delia Goncalves, wusa9. No passengers were on board, just the driver. And no one was hurt but still there were major problems as a result. Delays lasting 24 hours, even more than that. And then questions of what if, what if passengers had been on board. We also learned metro actually knew about the problem that led to the derailment before it happened but instead of fixing it, they essentially put that maintenance on the back burner. Now that investigation is complete, the results and a plan of action will be discussed today in a closed session. Again potential policy changes could be in the works today as well as disciplinary actions. As soon as we learned results of that session today, well pass them along to you.
