Already youre not protected going over there fighting and you mean to tell me just to go into a Recruitment Center now i have to worry about being protected . At the end of the day, its like how do you protect yourself when it comes to that or if somebody wants to attack anybody with the military . Reporter weapons are currently prohibited at these Silver Spring recruitment offices, but a nationwide recrew of the security of places like these is review of the security of places like these is now underway. One option now being considered is have military personnel or others carry weapons. I think thats a more dangerous situation honestly. We want them to protect themselves, but i dont know if that will necessarily help them. I think armed military personnel is fine because theyre trained to use weapons. Theyre trained to do security and Recruitment Center, i dont see anything wrong with that at all. Then people are going to start to feel unsafe like even, you know, regular teenagers who want to go up to Recruitment Centers and get recruited for the army, they might feel threatened because theres guns and stuff. Its intimidating. Reporter the armys top officer also noted that members of the military working in Recruitment Centers will always be somewhat vulnerable since the offices need to be open and accessible to the public. Now a california lawmaker already has plans to introduce legislation that would allow recruiters to carry guns. Republican congressman Duncan Hunter says other military facilities do have armed personnel and leaving recruiters unprotected creates an unnecessary risk. New tonight weve got the heartbreaking back story of the private Security Officer who was killed ambush style in a shooting in Capitol Heights earlier today. Reporter these were the armed private Security Officers who guarded this large apartment complex here in Capitol Heights. The man who died, 26yearold adrian kinnard, aimed to become a Prince Georges County kinard, aimed to become a Prince Georges County Police Officer because his younger brother also was the victim of a murder in 2010. Kinard, the father of a 1year old, went to work with body armor and a gun and planned to become a Police Officer. He died when he and a coworker were shot ambush style while sitting in their vehicles at 1 a. M. Keeping watch over Central Gardens apartments, motive and suspects unknown. Today in front of his familys home in d. C. s trinidad neighborhood we learned kinard was the second son to die by gunfire since 2010. This is his sister. Because he wanted to protect and serve. That was one of his main things, especially when our brother was killed, it was even more so like a drive for him. Reporter that brother was 17 and a high achieving student when he was apparently randomly targeted. The father reacted today to another shattering loss. Reporter kinard played baseball and studied criminal justice in college. He had a side line as a hiphop performer. He was a firearms certified officer working for code 3 security at the apartment complex where police swept in before noon and played arrests after a call from the company, but made arrests after a call from the company, but no charges from the shootings have been announced. The young one that got killed was a sweet mart. Reporter shocked residents said kinard and his partner had dealt with a large group of trespassers loitering on the complex playground earlier in the evening. Its not normal. For that now fired catholic schoolteacher Justin Gordon is looking at a possible maximum prison term that could run more than 50 years. Is gordon still in jail, bruce . Reporter it looks like hes going to get out very shortly. A judge just set a 50,000 unsecured bond for him. Now gordon is accused of abusing two different 17year olds here at the school this year and back in 2012. 40yearold Justin Gordon stared a the floor and shook his head no as the at the floor and shook his head no as the judge read the charges against him. Detectives fear he may have abused other children and they are asking them to come forward. The headmaster at holy child said she notified police as soon as she learned of the possible abuse. According to charging documents, the teacher brought flowers, made dinner, dessert one teen. Then in a lab at the school he allegedly asked the 17yearold if he could touch her breasts and when she agreed, he allegedly groped her. Detectives say he also abused another teen touching her below already breasts and kissing parents count on teachers to be that trusting teacher, that person who teaches their children, not dates them. Reporter gordon has lived in a small house in poolesville for almost 20 years. Neighbors defended him. This allegation is blind siding. I would never think never. Ive trusted him as far as im concerned, you know. Hes been a wonderful person. Reporter his wyche, his mother and other relatives were wife, his mother and other relatives were at the courthouse to support him. Hes i believe the sole support for that family. So they want him to be home and apparently the judge is going to allow him to be home. Reporter now the headmaster here at holy child says that she learned about these allegations exactly a week ago, immediately put gordon on leave and shortly thereafter fired him. The school says it does do background checks on all people who apply for positions here and if says it complies with all the laws requiring it to report abuse allegations. During the School Year Public School Students get lunch for free or at a reduced price, but during the summer most of those childrens dont have access to meals and could get hungry. Thats where the no kid Hungry Campaign stepped in offering dozens of meals at the William Rec Center in alexandria and today it came with a big hollywood smile. Actor and musician kevin bacon distributed meals and spent time with the children. Temperatures stayed below average, but this evening if you head out, youre going to notice that humidity is back in the forecast thanks to those southerly winds are not going anywhere and by sunday its going to be oppressively humid. We are going to see temperatures stay into the 70s much of the night. However, we do have a small chance for much of nose showers mainly off to the west of those showers mainly off to the west of the Shenandoah Valley. The heat and humidity are returning for saturday and by sunday its going to be overwhelming and dangerously hot. We have a yellow alert in place sunday for the heat. Reporter yeah, lesli, im standing right here beside this hangar where we watched the transport come in, a very solemn procession come in about 20 minutes ago. Four black suvs carrying the bodies of those four marines who were gunned down while they worked yesterday. They left this morning from chattanooga on this very solemn and low profile transport 500 miles to manassas. They drove, must have taken them about eight hours. Along the way they did have Police Escorts blocking traffic. We know that they blocked traffic here in Prince William county as they made their way to the manassas Regional Airport here. We have seen numerous Police Officers. There were about 12 motorcycle Police Officers escorting them as they made their way into this hangar here into this parking lot where two helicopters, two black helicopters, were in place. We watched them get into place, taxi over here near this hangar and be prepared for the transport and we understand the caskets are being loaded right now onto one of the helicopters at least. You know, they really have kept this low profile. It has not been a ceremonial transport carrying these four bodies. Marine corps spokesman tells us that the remains will be flown from here to dover, delaware, Dover Air Force base. The transfer cases will then be draped with an honorable transport and an honorable transport will be conducted. David wyatt of chattanooga, Thomas Sullivan springfield, massachusetts, skip wells, marietta, georgia and Sergeant Carson of holmquist, Thomas Sullivan was 40 years old, survived two tours of duty in iraq and earned a purple heart. Sullivan died thursday with the three other marines whose bodies are all here now at the manassas Regional Airport after Mohammad Youssef abdulazeez attacked the Navy Support Center in chattanooga. The Washington Post reports that military colleagues described sullivan who we know a little bit more about as a support testify and loyal mentor to other marines. Sergeant Reggie Townsend said he would never shy away from giving advice and help. He said he met sullivan in the summer of 2012 when sullivan was assigned to the bravo battery, an artillery unit in camp lejeune in North Carolina and he recalled sullivan as a mentor who tried to help the careers of younger marines and thats what these marines were doing. They were trying to recruit marines who would serve their country and do their very best and they died in the line of duty and they are, their bodies now being transported. There is growing pressure now to change names of three Fairfax County high schools named after confederate or segregationists. Those three are jeff stewart, robert e. Lee and Woodson High Schools. Some students and some alumni are pushing pretty hard for change while another petition wants to keep those names and both of those petitions are gaining momentum. Surae chinn reports from jeff Stewart High School in falls church. Reporter jeff Stewart High School is named after a confederate general, as is robert e. Lee high school. Now Woodson High School is named after a former School Superintendent who delayed integration in Fairfax County public schools. Well, petitions and this particular petition is calling for the school board to change these names. Its time to change the name of this high school. Reporter lisa mcquail, class of 78 of jeff Stewart High School has formed an online petition to rename her old high school. Our school was named jeb Stewart High School in 1959 by segregationists. We need to own up to that. Reporter another response is titled do not change school names. Petitioners write enough is enough. If you dont like it, move. Jennifer from fairfax says i attended roberts e. Lee high school and feel the name is part of our history. Another writes Political Correctness is out of control. History needs to be studied, absolutely, but that is far different from honoring 150 years after the confederacy lost the civil war a general who was a general in that civil war which was fought, after all, to preserve a system of slavery. Reporter giving schools confederate names the group says was part of the Massive Resistance Movement in virginia and the answer to opposing desegregating schools after brown versus board of education. I am a descendent from a really famous confederate family. There were 10 brothers who fought together in tennessee. Reporter mcquail says when her ancestors surrendered in the civil war, they conceded the confederate flag. This is the flag that appears on their graves, although they were confederate soldiers, they took an oath to this country and to this flag when the war was over. Reporter both petitions opposing change and a proponent for change, each have more than 1,000 signatures online. By the way, if youre wondering those calling for change, what theyd like to rename jeb Stewart High School . They say they would like it named after Justice Thurgood marshall. Neighbors say it was Something Like out of an action movie. A house just blows up in st. Louis, missouri, and badly injures two people. The twostory home exploded just before 10 30 last night and sparked a fire which quickly spread to two nearby homes. Firefighters rescued two men trapped under all the rubble. The two men were taken to the hospital in critical condition, no word yet on what caused all this. [ knocking and sirens ] police chase and shootout shuts down a busy kansas interstate for hours. It happened on i35 where u. S. Marshals were in hot pursuit of two robbery suspects. They found one suspect in a bar in kansas city, missouri, but the other took off in a jeep and crossed into kansas before being shot and killed by a marshal. A brushfire is adding to the woes of residents in athens, greece tonight. That fire started on a plant overlooking central athens casting a thick blanket of smoke over the city. Firefighters are hampered by strong winds. Athens has been the scene of angry and sometimes violate protests over the past few days as residents demonstrate against the countrys financial bailout plan. Meantime in eastern china firefighters have finally gotten ahold of the blaze at a petrochemical plant as those flames came into contact with highly flammable chemicals which caused several explosions. We are looking live at manassas regional effort where not too long ago a caravan carrying the bodies of the four marine murdered by a terrorist in chattanooga was brought there by a caravan. Its taken less than an hour to watch this entire procession, a motorcade with four large suvs carrying the bodies of those four marines who were killed in that ambush in chattanooga yesterday. They left chattanooga this morning, drove 500 miles to the manassas regional airpark. Along the way there were Police Escorts sometimes blocking traffic so that they could all stick together and make their way safely here. We now see this tarmac completely clear. Of course, because the helicopters are about to take off, but just minutes ago it was filled with all sorts of vehicles including those suvs which contained the bodies. When they moved the caskets of the bodies into the choppers, i believe the people were sensitive to our camera here so, they blocked the view. The caskets were not draped yet. Theres the chopper headed to Dover Air Force base. I dont know if youll be able to hear me. There they go. Theyre headed for the honorable transfer that will take place at Dover Air Force base headed off right there. There are a number of people around the area. I see people on a building looking as these helicopters carry the bodies of those marines, quite a solemn procession here, not ceremonial at all, very methodical, very much to the point getting things done. When they came in, it took less than an hour when the procession arrived with the suvs. Numerous Police Motorcycles and other Police Vehicles here escorting the remains to this location making sure that everything was okay. They did not put word out that this was happening. It was not broadcast. It was very much on the down low, very solemn to re, but the caskets as i was saying before were not draped and so they were very looked to me to be concerned that they were not draped and theyre headed to dover for what is going to be call an honorable transfer ceremony up there where we will hopefully get more information from the military about these gentlemen who died in the line of duty yesterday just doing their jobs at a tranning center, a Marine Training center, a Marine Recruit centering and a train center and a training center. Some people here still watching. There was an American Flag. Somebody came and was holding an American Flag watching this very solemn ceremony here.
