Outside the westfield mall, shoppers stared across the street into a homicide crime scene on the second floor of a metro parking garage. Kind of looked like maybe a robbery going easy and somebody thought they could get away with it. Reporter the first report of a shooting came around 7 15. Officers from Montgomery County and metro police swarmed the parking garage. The victim was rushed by ambulance to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead not long after arriving. [ sirens ] reporter Montgomery CountyPolice Detained two men, first calling them persons of interest. Then declining to label them at all, saying only that there was no more threat to people who live in the area. I would say they should not be concerned at this point in time. Reporter the shooting just outside the busy mall and metro stop forced metro trains to bypass the station for more than an hour during evening rush, and some drivers including lisa washington, a nurse coming off a ninehour shift, discovered that their cars were now part of a crime scene and couldnt be moved. I was just about ready to jump in my car and head on home. And here i see all these cars, these police cars all over the place. Reporter the Massive Police presence, which lingered late into the evening, drew a lot of attention to a crime residents said just doesnt happen here. This is a rare event here in wheaton. This is not something that usually happens. Reporter and just a few minutes ago, police provided one final late update.
