Both volunteered at the friendship initiative. Their friends called them angels on earth. Nicholas a senior a star swim here who just celebrated getting a swimming scholarship to the university of indianapolis. Also among the dead, the heroes. Assistant football coach aaron feis the parttime Security Guard being credited for using his body as a human shield to protect students. He was a goodman. He loved people. He loved the kids that he worked with at the school. And he wasnt afraid. You know, to protect and to lay it down. This after 19yearold nikolas cruz makes his First Court Appearance thursday charged with 17 counts of pre med dated murder. Cruz former student taking an uber to the school entering with a dufflebag and backpack just before dismissal. He set off the fire alarm to lure students out of the their classrooms before using his ar15 to open fire on students and teachers. According to the Broward County sheriff, cruz was only in the school for about seven minutes before fleeing the scene. The suspect crossed fields and ran west along with others who were fleeing and tried to mix in with the group that were running away fearing for their lives. I have gone to the local churches trying to find food for my children. My kids have not eaten since yesterday. For me to hear thats correct you know, four children hungry and they hadnt eaten since the day before it was heartbreak for me. She sent officer david hinton to the home. We knew we willed to something. We couldnt let them be hungry. They were honored at the Camden County freeholder monthly meeting in runnemede for what they did for the family. [ applause ] reporter officer hinton first took a fast food meal to the family but then decided along with dispatcher bag bee and her mom whos lieutenant with Camden County metro police to take bags of groceries to the family that night. Money out of their own pockets. Children were lined up behind her in excitement to receive the groceries, of course, kids theyre looking in the bag and seeing whats there and they were very, you know, very very excited and very happy. Reporter tonight they received a plaque for their actions. But say this kind of empathy is part of their job. This department is something we would do every day. Reporter so im told that initially the mother didnt want the help that the Police Officers were willing to give. She just wanted them to stop by and maybe offer some resources of places she could go to get help. These officers though said they had to help right away until she can get help in the long run. Someone fired the shots right around 6 15 this evening on the 2100 block of edding terrace. 19yearold is stable. We do not know how the 13 is doing. We do know however that police have yet to make an arrest. In camden, a man lot of control of his car, hit a curb then flipped on to a sidewalk. In that cars path a little girl right ride her bike.
