Lets go to the twin cities first and take live look. This is media night for the super bowl. However, back here at home, kathy is tracking snow in her forecast. Thats in 15 seconds. It is much colder in minneapolis than it is in philadelphia. In the poconos we still have our skiers out having a good evening with temperatures that are comfortable in the 40s. On ultimate doppler, some showers associated with a front. This is going to move offshore. Were watching this. That area of snow and that area of snow will be moving in. Its associated with a clipper. Not a lot of moisture with this but all about timing as weve seen earlier this winter. So some spotty showers through south jersey and delaware that will slowly be fading. And temperatures that will stay mild at least through the evening with the cloud cover. 43 in philadelphia. 41 in millville. In the poconos it is 35 degrees. You can see the cold coming in the northern plains. Minneapolis 16. Chicago 25. Philadelphia much more comfortable at 43 degrees. So as we go hour by hour, its going to stay dry in philadelphia through the overnight for sure maybe a few spotty snow showers along ocean and monmouth counties as this coastal low departs all eyes on this, its a clipper after 7 00 oclock tomorrow morning, moving into Lehigh Valley and philadelphia byebye 9 00 or 10 00. A little bit of a squall line associated with it. A few waves of snow moving through and then by the five, 6 00 oclock hour, you can see that heavier snow band moving into south jersey and eventually just moving off the coast. So its not a lot but its enough to create some slippery roads. Temperatures will be around freezing though. So not much sticking to the warmer ground. But main the on the grassy surfaces with temperatures borderline. You can see possibility of a coating to up to philadelphia and then heading toward an inch in pottstown. In the poconos up to an inch in reading and in lancaster as well. So not a lot of moisture with this. So temperatures overnight 32 in philadelphia. 29 in allentown. Wilmington 30. Dover 31. During the day tomorrow, temperatures not going up that much. Staying blow normal at 35. Light snow in the morning. Into the afternoon. And then partly sunny outside of that squall line you can see winds gusting to about 25 so it will be a bit chilly tomorrow. On your seven day forecast staying cool for wednesday. Thursday mostly cloudy. Fiday a chance of morning snow. Thats groundhog day. Lets see what Punxsutawney Phil has to say. Mostly sunny saturday. Developing story out of philadelphia right now. What happened in south philly this morning. Police say a man was trying to mow down people on the sidewalk but an off duty officer stopped him down by shooting and killing him. Lets get to fox 29s dave kinchen live now at police headquarters. They just held a news conference. What did they they say dave . Reporter thats right. We just got update from Philadelphia Police top brass talking about an off duty officer and concerns over essentially how many shots were fired by that off duty officer to deal with the zig. Lets go to some video right n now. It happened at broad and bigler in south philadelphia around 7 30 this morning. Investigators tell us a man in a black honda with out of state plates hit a person who was getting out of their car, specifically targeting that victim. That person with unknown injuries. The suspect a 31yearold man known to cops in maryland was then confronted by a Good Samaritan who cornered him with his car and off duty Philadelphia Police officer then gets involved and what Police Administrators call a violent struggle at which point the off duty cop fires several shots from his department issued gun striking the suspect in the face. He was later pronounced dead. Police commissioner ross says hes concerned about the shooting and placed the officer on administrative duty pending investigation. But we are being honest about the fact that we did watch a video which depicted just about all of the shooting any way and there are some concerns about it. Again, though, gnaw fact a very violent struggle with this mail probably did intend to at minimum disarm the officer which is why i was not suggesting that there was not a need for any rounds to be fired. I am again talking about the as specs of the shooting, and as i stated previously, we are in our preliminary stages right now, and so it will take some time. Reporter one witness said he believed there were ten shots fired from what he heard. Police say they do not believe that the suspect was armed. Its not clear why he was in the philadelphia area since hes from out of state. Police have video of the incident. Theyre looking for more video but theyre notary lesion the video they have at this time. They say it is evidence. Back to you. Whole lot of questions rema remain. All right, dave, well check back in with you soon. Back to the excitement. Super bowl lii but the focus isnt all on the big game. The schools looking to prevent further spreading of the illness which is affecting children at a much higher rate. Were seeing an early peak. Were seeing a lot of children in trouble because they dont have the immune system that you get as youre a little older. Reporter health Officials Say dozens of children have died from the flu so far and the cdc warning that number will likely increase over the next month. This years main new strain the unflew went sea a virus h3n2 is specialsly hard to fight off. Doctors say its not too late and that if you havent already gotten you should definitely get a flu shot. The flu shot which i still say everybody out that should get is about 30 effective. But it actually decreases spread around the house hold. It decreases severity and very smart to get it because of the children who have died, 80 of them in the past hadnt gotten the flu shot. Reporter in the meantime, blood banks across the country are feeling the effects of the flu. As dramatic rise in flu cases is cutting back on the number of Healthy People who can donate.
