Because it seemed even authorities thought that doctor James Kauffman was the chief suspect from the get go. Already here in mays landing in the local Atlantic County jail since his bizarre standoff you will recall in june at his doctors office, when authorities showed up with a search warrant, doctor James Kauffman seen here in his mugshot already charged in the Drug Distribution part of the case that the prosecutor revealed was the motivation for having his wife murdered. She new about the drugs and threatened to use his whole Distribution Network as leverage as the couple was headed for divorce. The hitman who shot April Kauffman in her bedroom in the daytime six years ago this may, died of a Drug Overdose, the prosecution says, still, a total of eight people are charged in this murder for uincluding members of the pagans motorcycle club. I think for the first time today i can actually breathe. For the past five and a half years i felt like ive been holding my breath on a daily basis. Look for him to appear here in a mays landing courtroom either today or tomorrow to face the whole rounds of new charges, but they already denied him bail in this case going back to june when he threatened to kill himself and held authorities off with a gun at his doctors office. Also, following developing news there is out of west philadelphia, where four people, including two children, were taken to the hospital last night after a fire. You can see the family right there in the back of a ambulance, getting some treatment, clearly, overwelmed by all of this. Fountain 930. North 52nd street. We dont know the cause at this hour or the condition of those victims. Over in west philadelphia, 16 year old boy accidentally shoots himself in the leg. So police scoop him up. They head over to the hospital. But run into another emergency on the way. They say a car slammed right into them, while they were rush to go penn presbyterian medical center. Fiftyfive year old man driving silver mitsubishi hit the police car near 57th and walnut streets. Witnesses say it was clear the police car was in emergency mode. Everybody sort of like the cop was coming down 57th street. He was coming up walnut st. But he hit this car, trying to make the light. The light had turned yellow. He was trying to make the light. Instead of slowing down, the cop made the intersection, instead every slowing down he sped up, hit the back of the cop car. The cop car spun around. More officers arrived at the scene to take the boy with a gunshot wounds to the hospital. He is recovering this morning, in stable condition. Penn state is settled another lawsuit, this one was moon claimed Jerry Sandusky had molested him in a car back in 2007 when he was just a very young teen, only 14 years old. The case was scheduled for the end of february. But, late last month, the parties told the judge they no longer needed sandusky to be brought to philadelphia for the case. The former penn state football coach is now serving 30 to 60 years in prison for child sexual abuse. Today in pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf will declare the Opioid Crisis a state emergency. That means, officials can override rules that may hinder the ability to address the epidemic. Prosecutors say he was racing another man, when his car sped out of control, went down an embankment, and killed two people and an unbornher driver d guilty in october to third degree murder for his role in the crash. So police started snooping. The item scheduled to be delivered to her home until it was reroute today a local ups center in west chester. The bad guys wanted to pick it up instead. So police went there, they found out this woman was not the only victim. There were more waiting packages for the criminals to receive. And the account owners for these purchases confirmed these were fraudulent, also, they never made these purchases. Two more unauthorized packages had already been pick up in recent weeks. So this scheme has been going on for some time. Police believe the suspects are using their real names and pictures on fake ids, but here is the deal at this point. Reporter here at the large Atlantic County court jail complex, where doctor James Kauffman has been a regular for the past seven months. His lawyer told reporters last night, hes going plead not guilty in this newest case, a murder case, kauffmans been lock up here without bail since june, when he pulled a gun out at his doctors office, when Authority First showed up, where with a search warn. He was charged after that in a first drug case, now, the prosecution has just over ten months ago taken over this office, and hes got this five and a half year old case really moving. Revealing kauffmans motivation was in his wifes murder for the first time. He says it was all over those drugs. Saying, she new about the prescription Distribution Deal that her husband had with the pagan motorcycle gang. And threatened to use it against him as they headed for divorce. Through our investigation, we determined that a longterm alliance between members of the pagan outlaw motorcycle gang, and James Kauffman, was created for the mutual financial gain through the use of kauffmans medical practice for illegal Drug Distribution. This relationship ultimately culminated may ten, 2012, with murder for hire of April Kauffman. And strangely the hitman who shot April Kauffman twice in her bedroom killing her during the Daylight Hours on may 10th, 2012, was not among the eight named and charged yesterday, because we also learned he died of a Drug Overdose two and a half years ago. And in another not explained twist, karen, thomas, the prosecutor revealed that the doctors accomplice in this murder for hire case also tried to have the doctor murdered, too, since not saying why when or how. So it is a case with a lot of possible or reasonable doubt, and you can bet, the doctors lawyer is going to use it when it comes to a trial before an injury. I that was all very interesting twist in that one, steve, thank you. 4 34, lets get to bucks county, neighbors found a 88 year old woman, who had died in the snow. Police say they dont have any evidence of foul play, but it was really strange, theyre still trying to figure out why she went out into the cold with barely anything on. Based on early investigations, they think she went out into the backyard, right there freemans lane southampton township and then maybe fell and was not able to get up. Theyre still investigating. Because police say thieves have been targeting people in Chester County, lets get out to Lauren Johnson to explain West Whiteland township, lauren . Reporter karen, right now the number is about half dozen people who have been hacked. Their account. Now theyve gotten police involved. As you mentioned, in West Whiteland township, after realizing their amazon account and credit card statements were messed with. So heres what we know. Police say theyre trying to track down at least two people they know are involved. Here are the pictures of those two, believed to have boldly walked into a ups facility, and walk away with the hot items. Police say they somehow hacked into the amazon accounts, of these victims, they dropped 2,100dollar computer into the cart, placed the order, initially the item slate today come to the victims home. At some point the scammers called amazon to change the delivery address to a Chester County ups facility. They go pick it up. All of this happening before the victims even realized their passwords had been changed, giving someone full access to their account. So, in order to claim the items, the bad guys needed some id, right . So they had fake pennsylvania licenses made up, with the victims names and addresses, hoping to make their story more believable. When police figured out how they were doing it, they found out there were several waiting packages, at that facility, maybe they realize their plan has blown up, so they sort of back off now. But, police arent slowing down their search for the suspect. They want to know if there are more victims than the halfdozen theyve already identified. So theyre encouraging people to check their accounts, and come forward with any suspicious activity that they might finds. Here is a good news, karen, toms, those victims have been fully reimbursed and now encourage today keep a close eye on their accounts. Very elaborate indeed.
