Crash involving a train and a car but first lets start with your fox 29 Winter Weather authority. Live look at ocean city, new jersey, tonight. Many of the shore communities that took the brunt today are still dealing with all of this. Kathy orr is now tracking the latest on the storm. Kathy . Well, lucy, we are saying goodbye to the storm and as it continues to move toward the northeast and bomb out off the coast of new england, were seeing all right wind shifting to more northwesterly direction and the snow really ending just a few light snow showers left in philadelphia it is just cold and windy. Were talking about blowing snow now and some brutally cold wind chills lets talk about those snow accumulations. Cape may courthouse 17inches of snow. Thats a new high total for the area. Atlantic city nearly 13. Vineland six. Mt. Holly five. Chadds ford four. New castle, delaware, nearly 3inches of snow. Atlantic city 12. 7. Dennisville 12. 5. Toms river ten. Philadelphia range was four to six and there you go. 4inches of snow in philly. Langhorne 3. 8 and jenkintown 3. Lets talk about the winds. Still gusting to 44 miles an hour in wilmington. Gusting to 35 in philadelphia. Gusting to 44 in the poconos and just to relate that to tropical systems thats a Tropical Storm force gust. Outside right now, its 25 degrees it feels like its 11. Off wind out of the northwest at 18 miles an hour. Your feel like readings range from seven below in the poconos to 12 in trenton. But most of those wind chills will go below zero overnight tonight. Heres look at the overnight low temperatures. Philadelphia ten. Six in allentown. Three below in the poconos. And in pottstown it will be 5 degrees. So what is it like there now, . Last time i check, Scott Williams, those streets were still a mess. I know things are going to be slow in old city tonight. Reporter absolutely. Right here outside our studios, kathy, we are looking at Market Street. You can see very few cars are out and about. Its really just a slushy mess from todays snowfall across the area. Those temperatures are dropping and folks are bundle the up. Of course, the snow has come to an end, but the bigger story in the days to come will be the bitterly cold air mass that will move in for friday and the upcoming weekend and also when i come indoors, well talk about those frigid wind chills. Reporter whew, youre not kidding absolutely. If you can see it in the camera theres a little bit still coming down right now. We have not seen a stop to the snowfall since weve been here in margate. And you can see whats falling already on the ground and how high it goes up these sidewalks not even touched right here. And how far it goes up all the way to the doors and make our way very carefully you can see down the alley just one little pathway there but as we make our way over to these banks on the side you can see cars like this one here stuck not going anywhere. No chance of getting this vehicle out likely for awhile. Although the roads are certainly passible, cars like that suv take their time as they make their way down the road going very very slow. A state of emergency in effect including atlantic county, Cape May County as well. We also know that theres a travel advisory or travel restriction in place for places like atlantic county. Nonessential personnel not allowed to travel the roads kept clear for police and fire and other emergency vehicles as well. Take look at that big vehicle right there by the way. The authorities here have military style vehicles to get supplies in and out of this area. And around they bring those out. They keep them at the fire department. They bring them out from time to time so theyre keeping folks safe here but i can tell the snow is still falling. I was going to ask you. It look like its still falling there. And the streets pretty much are dead exempt for that one suv that drove past you, dave. Reporter yeah, definitely. I think a lot of that certainly the off season here. Theres few people who live down here year round. Thats part of it but also i think a lot of people staying inside because they were watching fox 29 and they knew this was coming. Exactly. Along broad street in philadelphia for cars park along the snow emergency route. Now, the snow emergency took effect at midnight as we were telling you. Cars still on those routes at 4 00 a. M. Tomorrow may get towed. At the height of the storm this morning, a deadly crash it involved a septa Regional Rail train an car in montgomery county. Fox 29s dawn timmeney is live in lower mooreland township, dawn. Well, lucy it happened on this hill right behind me. Conditions were treacherous. A car coming down the hill snow was falling hard sliding on the hill just as a septa train is coming by. It was a grim scene just before 9 30 this morning along red lion road near philmont avenue in lower mooreland township. Two women on their way to work coming down this hill by the Railroad Crossing unable to stop on the snow covered road. You can see the marks in the snow where the suv slid down the steep incline breaking through the gate and slamming into an oncoming septa train. The driver of the vehicle was able to exit the vehicle before the crash. The passenger remain in the vehicle and was later found outside the vehicle along the tracks. Reporter the police chief says the driver realized she was in trouble and told the passenger they had to get out. The driver jumping for her life. Sadly, her coworker could not get out in time. I just think thats obviously there was some snow and very bad weather at the time of accident. Reporter the badly mangled gm terrain suv towed from the scene. Septa says it hit between the third and fourth train car on its west trenton line. The train operator stopped at the next station after realize wagon happened. The some 50 passengers were taken off the train and shuttled to their destinations. The west trenton line back up and running around 1 30 this afternoon after being suspended for some four hours. The driver of the suv treated and released from the hospital. She has answered questions and helped with the investigation, been very helpf helpful. Reporter now, workers who are nearby say they are so saddened by this news. I did speak to a guy who works for Heating Company and he said he was coming down this hill this morning and it was extrem extremely slick. He heard a loud bang and then a scream. Police say they are not yet releasing the names of the two women involved until family is notified, lucy. Obviously heartbreaking. It absolutely is, dawn. All right. Thank you much. With snow blanketing the streets of philadelphia piling up on the roads and sidewalks its obvious al challenge for drivers and even people trying to walk. Look at that. This is live shot right now and you can see that wind bouncing our camera around. Now, the city says right now it has about 305 trucks tackling the snow. The Streets Department wants you to be obviously cautious behind the wheel. Were asking folks if you see assault truck or plow truck, please keep your distance behind them so that way your vehicles are not pelted by the salt. Were also asking folks not to push or purchase or shovel snow into the street. The Streets Department says its hoping to have the primary and secondary streets clear by tomorrow morning. We shall see. Sin the snow has stopped, people are hitting the roads not necessarily the best thing to do if you dont have to. Theyve been hit with large amounts of snow there to the south and they are working hard to clear it up. But so far right here in wilmington, delaware, were doing okay in terms of the road. We were up and down the route 38 corridor through Burlington County today from mt. Holly to hainesport, lumberton, mt. Laurel and moorestown. All over the place. Folks were just simply digging out. It was a father son Snow Shoveling Team hard at work on rancocas avenue in hainesport thursday afternoon Marshall Lawrence and his son nathan scooping up the snow as fast as it fell. Its not bad. No, not bad. Pretty light. Pitt see easy shoveling not heavy. Good stuff. Easy. Working on it. Report roar downtown mt. Holly looked like a ghost town except for a single shoveler at the robins nest on washington street. Spokesperson with the philadelphia water Department Says at left two properties have water in their basement and with the spate of breaks the Water Department has a key piece of advice here. Unfortunately, all around the ski were having water main breaks right now. Customers should at least, you know, get some bottled water, always have bottled water in the house in case of an emergency. Certainly right now with water main breaks happening at the rate that they are, um, everyone should have at least a case or so of bottled water so if there is a water main break they can get through the day Drinking Water and cooking and things like that. No. Were talking about record cold and you can see these temperatures, lucy, go farther north and it just gets colder and colder and thats where the air obviously will be coming from. Right now in philadelphia its 25. Not far from where we were last night. But look at international falls. Six below marquette michigan at three and milwaukee its ten and to the north and west 48 below zero in southeastern nan today 22 below. 13 below. We wont get that cold. But this air is going to be moving down toward the delaware valley. So by saturday morning, were talking about challenging record cold. Saturday morning in Atlantic City the record is four. The same in philadelphia. Wilmington seven. Trenton five. Georgetown six. We are going to be very close to breaking these records if not breaking them all. Only three bus routes are suspended that would be the 35, 92 and 120. So 35, 92 and 120 are suspended. Market frankford and broad street lines are operating with minimum delays. Heres the thing. Tomorrow major change. All Regional Rail lines will operate on enhanced saturday schedule. Um because of the extreme cold, winds could have overhead wire problems. He went dont want people stranded in too many vehicles or if we get into issues so were trying to limit the number of trains that are out on the system tomorrow. Jersey shore just took a brutal beating from the snowstorm. A number of towns got slammed with more than a foot of snow. Hard to drive through the roads because of the onslaught of snow and the wind and all of that. Some areas plowed. Others not at all. 16inches on the ground reportedly here. We can also tell you that theres an advisory out there for people restriction in travel only search vehicles, police fire, things like that otherwise youre told to stay off the road. Open hard to walk around. Its crazy, man. A lot of snow. I lived down here for a couple years im from north jersey im used to big snowstorms. Havent seen Something Like this in the last few years down here. You know a lot of snow. Cant get my car out. Wind chills six below in the poconos. Well go down possible toll about 20 below tonight. In philadelphia the wind chill 11. In wilmington seven. In millville the wind chill only eight above. A wind chill advisory goes into effect early tomorrow morning. And then record cold is possible. Lets take it outside to scott youre feeling it scott, right. Absolutely im feeling every bit of that 11degree wind chill right now, kathy. Outside of our studios, the sidewalks have been treated so they are looking okay. Just a few ice sigh patches but as you head over to Market Street ill have sean my photographer kind of zoom out over there, you can see that it is just a slushy and icy mess right now. Folks have been huddled up waiting for the bus. A bus just came. But certainly they are walking a cold temperatures. Lets talk about the arctic blast that will be moving in in the wake of the storm system rapidly pulling away toward sections of new england. But the temperatures, they are dropping. Right now its 25 degrees. It feels like 11 in philadelphia. But lets talk about that arctic cold. That will be moving in. In particular friday through the weekend. Feels like temperatures around philadelphia the i95 corridor, five to 15 below. But look at the warning in the pocono mountains it could feel as cold as 30 degrees below zero. In fact well go hour by hour and show you how rapidly future feels like temperatures with the wind chill will drop. You can see as we move toward midnight, feeling like ten below in pottstown. Five below Atlantic City but it gets even colder. Take look at mount pocono 31 degrees below zero at 5am. Ten below in philadelphia what it will feel like and 12 below in lance. Not much recovery, kathy, during the day tomorrow. Back to you. Wow. Unbelievable, scott. Ill tell you those numbers are incredible indeed lets take look overnight tonight. What we expect. Those temperatures will be mainly in the teens and single numbers but the pocono air temperature will be three below. So thats how youre going to get to that 20 below, 30 below overnight. During the day tomorrow, well have the sun, temperature near 20 in philadelphia. But with the win it will feel like its below zero. Winds gusting to 40 miles an hour. So that wind will be relentless and potential for some record Cold Saturday and sunday morning with a brutal start sunday. One below unbelievable thats temperature. A chance of rain mixed with wet snow monday afternoon. We may get above freezing. 44 for tuesday. Parly sunny wednesday 42. Thursday 46.
