Bomb cyclone the storm will bomb out. Rapidly intensify. We use that term a lot cyclone just means area of low pressure thats our noreaster. Its a fancy term for something Pretty Simple its an east coast snowstorm. You can see on ultimate doppler the snow moving up rapidly and where you see those dark err returns on the radar almost like a purple, thats where its snowing pretty hard especially down the shore and thats building up toward the philadelphia area and the i95 corridor where its not snowing just yet. Heres the sent of the storm it will be off the coast of long island by tomorrow morning, bringing some decent snowfall from philadelphia and eastward. It will bomb out rapidly up tense if i off of new england and when it does bomb out, to the north and west thats where you see the heavier snow or heaviest theyll see a couple of feet in new england as a result with potential for Hurricane Force win. For us well see six to 10inches in that blizzard warning area which is interior south jersey and the jersey shore where its snowing heavi heavily. Four to six through philadelphia and adjacent suburbs. Two to four toward the Lehigh Valley and just a couple inches possible in the poconos for further away from the storm. This is what we expect. The snow moving in now through 2 00 a. M. Heaviest between 4 00 a. M. And 11am. Morning rush reduced visibility, slippery travel especially obvious where that heavy snowfalls and that snow will end from west to east. A sharp cut off between noon and 4 00 p. M. Bomb cyclone has drivers down south spinning out of control. Look at that fishtailing in the middle of traffic. What the icy roads arent the only thing you need to look out for. As we take live look at Rehoboth Beach in delaware dont go anywhe lets take look at ocean ci city, new jersey right now. You can see that wind whipping. If you see that snow, the snow there in the light this is down the shore they are going to get the hit the hardest expected to have blizzard conditions. We saw Chris Oconnell in Atlantic City thats what it look like right now in ocean steam theyll bear the brunt of that storm later this evening. Meantime in Burlington County crews are making progress fixing a broken pipe thats behind a big gas leak they have been at it for hours. Local auto shops say most new cars also dont take as long to warm up just a couple of minutes and you should be good to go. Taking live look at ben franklin parkway now. The city is under a wint storm warning tonight. The big concern, of course, the morning rush. We are talking slick and slippery roads. Meteorologist kathy orr is here now with the timing of that snow. Kathy . Yes, its moving in as we speak, iain. Were talking about six to 10inches down the shore. Its already falling fast and furious and if you look at all mat doppler you can see these stream lines coming to our storm system off the coast the mid atlantic and all of that snow filling in moving northward up the knife i corridor. Snowing in Atlantic City, millville, cape may, all of delaware and closing in on philadelphia and eventually trenton. When we look at the storm itself, it is such a large storm that its impacting obviously the whole eastern seaboard we talk about it bombing out that will happen off the coast of new england and when you say bombing out it means the pressure. The millibars associated with a deepening low pressure system are going to fall so rapidly that the storm just kind of explodes with precipitation and you can see to the north and west thats where you see heaviest snow hence in new england theyll see a couple of feet snow and possibly Hurricane Force win. We talk about bombing out a lot. But bombing psych clone, thats real tiffly new term that ive heard recently. It sound pretty good, doesnt it iain fox future cast well go hour by hour. You can see by 2 00 a. M. We see the snow moving toward philadelphia. We could see a little dry slot but dont worry that will be filling in and the snow will continue through the 9 00 oclock, 10 00 oclock, 11 00 oclock, 12 00 oclock hour and then you see this line to the west nothing as the storm pulls away from noon onward till about 4 00 p. M. Well slowly see the snow exit and when all is said and done after cleaning up, were talking about some very cold conditions so six to 10inches in our blizzard warning area. That goes from toms river Estelle Manor through cape may and southern delaware. Four to six in norristown, philadelphia, glassboro. Two to four toward the Lehigh Valley farther away from the storm. Down the shore the greatest impact wind gusts to 50 miles an hour white out conditions power outages. Hazardous travel tomorrow. Six to 10inches of snow. So after the snow, comes the brutal cold. For more on that well zen it over to scott. Thats right, kathy. Winds of change blowing in behind the system. But take look at future wind gust as we go hour by hour by tomorrow morning Tropical Storm gusts down the shore up to 39 Miles Per Hour and then by nine, 10 00 oclock, 45 Miles Per HourMiles Per Hour gusts millville and Atlantic City. So the potential is there for some power outages. But beyond that, old man winter making a drastic come back arctic blast take look at future feels like temperatures. During the day tomorrow 2 00 oclock, feeling like nine in allentown and also in trenton 11 what it will feel like in philadelphia but look at what happens by friday morning. It will feel like ten below in Atlantic City. Feeling like 30 below in mount pocono so certainly were dealing with the snow tomorrow but look at those frigid wind chills, kathy, as we move toward friday and the weekend. Ahead wg about that cold air continuing at least through the weekend. And the ice box by the beginning of next week. So overnight, low temperatures 20s. Theyre not going to move all that much between overnight and during the day tomorrow. By the afternoon were still talking about some snow. It wind, winds gusting to 40 miles an hour a lot of blowing snow and on your seven day forecast just frigid friday and saturday. You wont want to go outside by sunday near record cold empty morning we see the warmup, monday, tuesday and wednesday. Boy, will 39 degrees feel good. We have to deal with rain maybe some freezing rain and snow but at least its not five. Absolutely. Kathy, feel balmy. Of course sue and mike will have the latest tomorrow morning on good day. Sounds good, thanks kathy. Driving on icy roads is dangerous something people in texas not used to. Cars spinning out of controls on icy roads in san antonio. Slick roads caused four accidents thankfully no one was hurt. Thats not the only place seeing trouble. South Carolina Cars were over turning and slipping off roads. Remember before you hit the road in the morning wake up good day philadelphia. As kathy mentioned bob and sue will you covered to keep you save beginning at 4am. All right. Kristen whats coming up in sports . Well, iain, were still days away from the College Football play off Channel National championship one school decided to take the title. My take on why than the cold to be a polar bear plunger. It takes courage, bravery and heart. Each year these winter warriors jump to frozen glory to raise money for Special Olympics pennsylvania athletes and with nine locations statewide youre never far from a polar plunge in your area. Join us. The many, the brave. The ones who are freezin for a reason. College football play off National Championship game will be played on and georgia. But one team has national champions. Central florida. They beat auburn in the peach bowl to cap off undefeated season which they say is enough to earn them the title ucf has accomplished a lot of great things this season. Head coach frost bound for nebraska took a team winless two years ago and made them a powerhouse in the aac. Theyre not power five school. They didnt have tough schedule this year. So they didnt make the playof playoffs. You say you want to be considered the Actual National champiochampions, work on a toun couldnt friend schedule a good start. Only Undefeated Team in College Football this season the knights are still hanging a banner. You know who else could hang a banner, troy, they beat hsu who beat auburn who beat georgia and alabama the same logic. Right, iain. I think youre right. Play a tougher schedule. All right. Get in the playoffs. Playoffs . How about check thisn solid but this is florida. Guy whown and banging on that thing its not even cracking. This is in pensacola, florida. In thee y says when he took the video only 30 degrees out. So thats not sometng day. Certainly not in the sunshine state. Umum. In florida. We may be feeling that a couple of days. Minus ten witness wind chill. Oh, my gosh. Crack that ice with a hammer. I cant it being as as its going to be. Im already thinking about that. But first we have to think of this. Six to zen inches of slow through south jersey and four to six for the philadelphia area. Thanks for wat this is good day philadelphia. Here we go, happening right now on good day philadelphia, the bomb cyclone, it is here. Parts of the Delaware Valley being hammered by massive noreaster. And from the looks of the radar, which we will pop up, here come, it is huge. It is massive. It is spinning. It will not be stopping any time soon. Of course this morning, we have live Team Coverage, our crews, theyre out and across the area this morning, preparing you for what you need to know if you have to venture outside. Youre right, you look at the radar, it gives you better idea what we are dealing with, great to have you with us here on this thursday, snowy morning, im Thomas Drayton with karen hepp. Good morning, was it snowing on your ride in . Wasnt too bad, the start of the storm, if you will. Mine was, i definitely had snow over my head, let us know what you are seeing, use the fox 29 snow and use your snow pictures. Right to sue serio what we can expect this morning. Here is the obvious. It is snowing. We have a lot of single digit windchills out there this morning, winds will get worse but the snow here. First, it is about the snow. And you can see, the bands coming in, from the coast, coastal storm, as weve been telling you, but it took a little bit more of a westward track than originally anticipated. And of course, it isnt snow or bad weather at all, if you dont put somebody outside of it, and were so lucky to have mike masco with us this morning. For little bit of analysis and to tell us, folks just waking up now, they want to know whats going on . Yes, honestly, sigh, weve been watching this storm all night, overnight hour, now fully developed. Seeing light snow here in center city. Go south of town into atlantic sit or down toward say salem county, these are areas already starting to see light accumulations, bring you right to the board. Lets look at the storm, it is a formidable storm. Central pressure has been dropping during the course of the evening hours. Now of course the morning hours. Down to 978. Whats that mean to you and i . Equivalent to category two hurricane in terms every strength it, will continue to send bands on northwest kick through the morning hours. And again, this is going to be intensifying storm, see the snow bands moving in, and you can actually see them moving in from southwest to northeast. Look at future wind gusts together, thats going to be blizzard warnings in effect for coastal areas for good reason, because of the blowing and drifting snow it, means visibilities as early as say around lunchtime, we go down to about
