Is and how many massive it is. It had multiple centers and now a concentrated center so our computer models are getting a better grip and coming to a better consensus of the track of this storm. Look at this snow inland i just got a report from charleston, south carolina. 6inches of snow. So if charleston gets 6inches, you know that we can we could be in for it the storm will accelerate, intensify as it moves up and off the eastern seaboard. It will bomb out over new england and that means rapidlily intensify. There is a blizzard warning for our shore counties and also sussex county, delaware. A winter storm warning where you see the pink for philadelphia, south jersey and our adjacent suburbs and Winter Weather advisory as you go north and west further await from the storm but everybody sees the snow. Snow rates of one to 2inches an hour in that rapidly intensifying storm especially of course in that blizzard warning down the shore. Down the shore winds gusting to 50 miles an hour and visibility in that blizzard warning area a quarter mile or less obviously hazardous travel. So this is what we expect. With that storm. In the blizzard warning and then some brutal cold thats going to coming in after that. Temperatures right now in the 20s. Wind chills mainly in the teens. Cold enough for all snow and chris, down the shore, it could be just horrific because of the snow obviously the blowing snow, the Poor Visibility and the possibility of Power Outages when brutal cold is going to follow. Reporter thats right, kathy. I just got off the phone with Emergency Managers here in Cape May County. They say blowing and drifting snow and Power Outages are in fact the biggest worries and concerns going to what is now a blizzard warning in effect starting at 9 00 oclock tonight for burlington at, atlantic and cape may counties and if youre a resident down here, youve ever been down here, you know the impacts of a noreaster can have on these barrier islands. Take a look behind me now. What weve been seeing for the past couple of days. Something you dont see very often here in ventnor. And that is a frozen ice covered back bay. Not very good for boaters cant even get through some of this ice. But take look earlier further south down the coast down the delaware bay. Right near the mouth of the Cape May Canal near the cape may lewes ferry the ferry is really being used as its own ties many parts of delaware bay. Actually we just heard this afternoon cape may lewes ferry suspended operations at least through tomorrow. Now the concern for Emergency Managers here Cape May County not necessarily the up to what could be a foot of snow but those Tropical Storm force winds and the potential for those Power Outages in this extreme cold. They fear residents will be without heat for the worst possible time. Now, another problem folks have down here storm surge. Lets bring you back out here live as you see ventnor right now the ice covered bay. Storm surge with those high winds and a near full moon high tide here in ventnor tomorrow at 9 00 oclock in the morning again at 9 00 oclock at night so that storm surge anything of that flooding nature in some of these streets most likely will be frozen. Well bring you back here at 6 00 oclock as Cape May County and the rest of new jersey prepares for what could be a blizzard starting tonight. Back to you, lucy. Well check back in. Thank you chris. Meanwhile in pennsylvania, penndot crews are working very hard to make sure the roads are ready for the snow. Skyfox over penndot truck heading toward norristown treating route 202 near the king of prussia mall this morning. Penndot says it has about three hu50 trucks on hand ready to go. The timing of the storm is certainly a concern for us, it is expected to start as early as i said midnight or early hours of tomorrow morning, um, and continue on through the am rush hour which could pose a bit of a challenge for us. Penndot is asking drivers to get all of that snow and ice off your car before you hit the road for your own sake and for othe others. These frigid temperatures are bursting pipes all across our area. Big ones that carry water to your neighborhood. Smaller ones that carry it to your home. Our bruce gordon live in society hill with whats actually happening to those pipes. Bruce . Reporter lucy, its interesting whats happening below ground really depends on coule of factor factors how deep the pipes are and what the pipes are made of. City Water Department crews were on the scene at second and south streets wednesday afternoon preparing to rip up the street to get at a broken 8inch water main one of slew of breaks that accompanied the plunging temperatures. John, is h2o spokesman. What has this last week or so been like for the Water Department. Its been very challenging. Yesterday alone we repaired at least 15 water main breaks in the city. Reporter part of the problem is that well over half the citys 3200 miles of water pipes are made of cast iron an older type of material thats been out of fashion for decades. Cast iron has no give to it really. Cast iron is very very hard and it doesnt really have any flexibility in the metal. Reporter almost little brittle of sorts. Sure. Reporter water mains are laid at least 4 feet deep below the frost line so the breaks down come from water freezing and expanding. Instead says diguilio its very cold water flowing through pipes that cant always handle it. So when you see water temperatures going through cast iron pipe and the water expanding even though the water isnt freezing the pipes arent freezing youre putting additional stress on a pipe that, you know, doesnt really have much give to it. Reporter but what about those frozen pipes that meet you when you get home from work on a bitter cold day . Thats a different story. Heres a cool video from steve stranglers science on youtube in it they fill a pipe with water, seal both ends so theres no place for it to go, kind of like when you shut off your faucet its a the temperatures drop. Now, they freeze the water. More quickly than usual with liquid nitrogen and for heavens sake. Kaboom a broken pipe, water all over your house and an expensive bill to come. The work you see going on behind me thats Water Department crew working on a water main. Their responsibility. The citys responsibility. You should know Service Lines those are the three quarter copper lines that go from the water main to your home, well, they can of course freeze and break or they can freeze and simply block the water from getting to your home. Either way, if youve got a service line problem, its your responsibility as homeowner. Lucy. That can cost a lot of money. Thank you much, bruce. Reporter models are still developing for noreaster make sure you know the newest information from the Weather Authority with our fox 29 weather app. Youll get live radar and alerts sent right to your phone its free in the i tunes and google play stores. And we have breaking news out of burlington county. Dozen homes evacuated after gas leak in burlington city. Skyfox over the scene this afternoon on salem road. The city says 20inch gas main started leaking right around noon. Pseg crews are on the scene working to cap the leak. We do know they were waiting for the pressure to go down before they can gap it. Crews do not know whether homeowners in the area will be able to get back into their homes tonight so everybody is waiting. The city tells us no crews were working on the main when it actually broke. Fox 29 Weather Authority firing on all cylinders were not the only ones feeling the chill of course. Who life look at the beach. A blizzard warping could happen. Below card warning in effect. Kathy and scott has the latest in 15 seconds. All right. Everything coming together on this noreaster with that blizzard warning already going into effect this evening. Heres the storm the center of circulation off the coast of the southern seaboard and all this moisture moving northward charleston picking up sick inches of snow. Raleigh will be seeing at least three to six and these are our advisories and warnings. That blizzard warning for our shore communities inland areas for south jersey and southern delaware we have that winter storm warning and advisory everything goes into effect at 9 00 oclock tonight and continues through tomorrow. The snow should be tapering off tomorrow afternoon. So what is a blizzard . It means the wind or the gusts will be 3. Visibility will be quarter mile or less. For a period of time. Has to be three hours or more. So it doesnt have anything to do with how much snow. You could have two to 3inches of snow but its the wind, the visibility and the duration of the wind that creates that blizzard warning. But typically its a accompanied by decent amount of snow. Temperatures right now, cold enough for snow everywhere. No doubt about it. Weve been in the deep freeze for several days and well be seeing that moisture moving in with this nasty noreaster tonight. So lets go hour by hour here and you can see the snow moving up the storm intensifying bombinbombing out over new engld that means it will be rapidly intensifying and whose he have is to the northwest of that which will be new england will get the mother load of the snow and the wind. So as we go hour by hour you can we can see the snow moving up from the south and the east toward the north and west. By ten, 11 00 oclock it will be in south jersey and philadelphia. Pushing toward the suburbs during the Early Morning hours making it into the poconos for a little snow. And then it will be sweeping back out to sea during the morning by about 2 00 oclock, 3 00 oclock it should be really light and then ending by the evening. But thats a lot of time to snow. So how much . Lets send it over to scott. Hey, scott. Hi there, kathy. Yeah, the height of the storm we can have snowfall rates anywhere from one to 2inches her power hour. This system is moisture loaded it will be running into drier air. Well watch how things play out with that. But lets focus in more on the timing. Once again it begins later on this evening the next several hours watching some of that snow move in to south delaware and also into south jersey and then the heaviest likely between 4 00 a. M. To 11am. When youre watching sue serio and mining masco tomorrow morning on good day theyll be watching the height of the storm the shore six to 10inches philadelphia four to 6inches. And inland gusts up to 40 miles an hour down the shore up to 50 miles an hour. Take look at the power outage index closer you are to the coast the better your chances of seeing some scattered Power Outages. So keep that in mine. The snowfall totals will break things down. One to 2inches around the poconos. Two to 4inches for the lehigh valley. Philadelphia north and west suburbs interior south jersey four to six. Six to 10inches down the shore. So once again, were talking places like galloway, ocean city, avalon, brigantine, toms river, six to 10inches. Millville as you move toward stoke creek glassboro, voorhees, moorestown, norristown, wilmington, four to 6inches for you. Once again looking at the highest wind gusts down the shore up to 50 miles per hour. White out conditions are possible. Of course, watching for potential Power Outages. Kathy . When you see it all listed like that, saturday scott it really hits you how significant this storm is going to be down the shore. Especially losing power when its so cold. That is really troubling as well. Treacherous travel down the shore tomorrow as well. Right now on the parkway were talking about pretty quiet conditions but its going to be different everywhere tomorrow mornings rush is going to be a tough go. 24 overnight in philadelphia. The poconos 11. 18 in pottstown. 19 in allentown. Tomorrow temperatures are going to be right around the same mid 20s. Snow and wind that snow will be tapering off in the afternoon but the wind gusting to 40 miles an hour will have an impact because the snow is going to be so light. Then the deep chill, the coldest air yet. Friday the morning wind chill ten below at least the same for saturday. Recorrecords possible over the weekend with record low temperatures and then next week, snow or rain the look at this the temperature at least goes above freezing. So the next 24 hours are going to be tricky. Next update coming up in just about half hour. All right, talk to you then. Thank you kathy coming up very own steve keeley on ice. You know how it goes.
