Bonechilling cold isnt the only thing were talking about right now. Snow in the pocono mountains and we can see more of that this week. You wont find any of that, though, on the streets of old city right now. But you will find a bitter wind blasting our area. Kathy orr is talking about a chance for snow this week. Kathy, this could be some real accumulation. It could, iain. Were talking about noreaster. This could be a big storm. The cold is already in place in old city philadelphia. The temperatures are frigid. Its 16 pottstown only 12. In the pocono it is 5 degrees and wind chills even lower. 14 below in the poconos. In philadelphia two. How about one below in millville and in reading two below. Were looking ahead to big changes coming our way. It is going to get colder. But were talking about snow. Now, this area of low pressure is going to form just to the north of the bahamas. Thats pretty unusual. Its going have the whole coast to collect moisture we call this a miller a type storm. And that is going to bring a chance of snow for a part of the region. So first well talk about that bonechilling cold the bitter wind chills and trackly the noreaster ill show you what to expect with that storm and the timing coming up in just a few minutes. Miller a type of storm. Can we go miller light on that [ laughter ] not quite have so much snow. Unfortunately thats not an option. Maybe during the storm, lucy. With these bitter cold temperatures are behind big problems across our area. South jersey a burst pipe forc d the partial evacuation a Senior Living fender is the middle of this from jed blast. Brad sattin fifty five in voorhees with more. Brad n could not have been easy process. Reporter no. The timing is horrible. The cold weather to blame. Things are finally getting back to normal. Were here at the brook dale voorhees Senior Living center as you mentioned. The good news is the residents are finally getting back in to their properties right now. And everybody is okay. Take you to some pictures from earlier tonight. We can tell that you the cold weather appears to be the blame here for a pipe and a Sprinkler System that had crack in the ceiling and that apparently flooded to some extent a lower level and that forced residents to evacuate that area. Now the concern was that the initial call came in as a ceiling collapse injuring a firefighter. We have since learned it sounded much worse than it actually was. So thats good news. Some part of a sheetrock did come down. A firefighter was only very lightly injured doing fine. Did not need medical attention. Residents were just moved to another part of this facility. Some pipe burst. Pipes go up in the attic. Obviously very cold out. Were in arctic blast. Pipes contracted. Water floods down. The Fire Protection system. So any time that a building has a Fire Protection system that goes down we look to get people out of the affected area. For their own safety. Now contractors were called in to fix this pipe obviously they are still here as you see behind me. Cold weather a common problem obviously with these pipes. Water main break and Power Outages have many fighting just to stay warm. Fox 29s joyce evans has more from one of the hardest hit neighborhoods. It was horrendous. Horrendous. After water main broke on new years eve and cell phone video here captured the river of water and mud gushing into his home of 25 years on the 900 block of strahle street. Unbelievable. Reporter Philadelphia Water DepartmentOfficials Say the city will likely foot most if not all of the bill. Saying their inspection of a leak the day before the break did not warrant the shut off of hundreds of homes. While they scrambled to address a number of water emergencies in these frigid temperatures. Eddie flores says, he had suffered through another water main break just two years ago. Just hit me again. Police warned not to do it and so tonight those philadelphians who fired off guns into the air during new years eve reveling and got caught now face charges. Police made arrest in West Philadelphia and another in south philadelphia. They also arrest add couple of others for weapons violations overall, though, police saw big reduction in partiers firing off guns from previous years. With a number of homicides in philadelphia, up 14 in 2017, police are trying to stop the shootings with a new Gun Task Force. New Gun Task Force which starts this year will focus on criminals who use guns and illegal gun sales hoping to keep the most dangerous gun offenders off the streets. Our Dave Schratwieser has more and joins us live at Philadelphia Police headquarters tonight. Dave . Reporter iain, the mayor and the Police Commissioner have been trying to come up with something to deal with the gun violence in philadelphia over 1200 shootings last year. Theyve now decided to attack the problem head on with that new Gun Task Force aimed at the most violent offenders and illegal gun sales. With over 300 murders in 1200 shootings last year theres no question gun violence is a problem that needs to be addressed. Now Philadelphia Police are hoping a new Gun Violence Task force could be part of the solution. We got to get these guys that have guns are inclined to use them off the street. Reporter police are already using intelligence information to identify suspec suspects, gang members and violent criminals. District attorney and the courts are expected to join an initiative that will target illegal guns and the criminals who use them. This Gun Task Force will allow us to be laser like in our focus and targeting the most prolific offenders. Reporter the new task force will have detectives in each of the diss divisions across the city. Theyll focus on gun arrests and the sale of illegal guns. It could be handled by gun court focused specifically on gun offenders. When you arrest someone for a gun, when someone is shot or commits a shooting, right away, information starting to be collected in disseminated so we know where then on the operation side to put the boots on the ground. Reporter those boots on the ground will include 370 new Police Officers by september of this year. Many of them will be deployed on bikes the departments most effective anti crime tool on the streets. Because the bike cops can get behind those, um, you know, those alleys and driveways and things like that and get to places that the officer on a vehicle cant get to. Reporter now police are also hoping that Gun Task Force will help detectives solve some more murder cases. Last year, under 45 of the murders actually ended with an arrest. Lucy. Scientists say 2017 could become the second warmest year on record. Fox news senior meteorologist janice dean has our look back at the year in weather.
