Temperatures will be in the teens to low 20s 9 00 a. M. , looking at that light snow into the early afternoon before it finally starts to taper off. How much snow do i expect . Anywhere from an inch to perhaps as much as 2inches pretty much area wide across the region. Very cold temperatures. Highs tomorrow 28 degrees. 22 on sunday for new years eve. And 19 degrees on new years day but you have to factor in the wind it will be even colder with wind chills in the single digits. Our Team Coverage of this arctic assault continues. Continued cold, frigid temperatures and now snow on the way. Were here to tell you that road clues crews, penn got, philadelphia crews will have you covered to try to keep everyone as safe as possible over the next 24 to 48 hours. Heres some video from skyfox earlier today above some road crews. Preparing the settlement and blacktop with brian and anti icing materials. Now, that is the idea as road crews are out in advance of this winter snow event. Best case here the snow will be coming on a saturday and there should be fewer drivers on the roads. Cold temperatures do present a challenge in terms much with us putting salt down. We will monitor well monitor that. The cold temperatures can make salt less effective. There by we may need to put more salt down. Our crews will monitor that throughout the day tomorrow. And if that becomes necessary well put more salt down than our initial spread. Penndot has activated its anti icing program so that means they will have close to 200 trucks on the road and 90 contractors to help out with snow removal. You hear it from officials and us. Take precautions if youre going to be out and driving on the roads. Obviously the idea is for everyone to get to where they needing to safely when we have a snow event like this. Police tonight telling us they not only want folks to stay warm they want them to be safe and they have some new tactics to make that happen. Identified threats inble philadelphia. Reporter surveillance cameras are up and so are the barricades along broad street as Philadelphia Police prepare to wrap a security blanket around the mummers day parade and new years eve events across the city. We tweaked our plan from last year. Just slightly based on some of the things we seen go on around the world. Report roar fort first time officials disclosed the police will use a drone to patrol the skies over the parade route on new years day. With pictures being streamed live to a Police Command post. Theyre very good for large events. You get overhead view of the whole event. If something happens you can zoom in on exactly what the problem is. I think its good. Reporter police say they will use large dump trucks and trash trucks at all intersections along broad street to protect parade participants and the revelers. Blocking vehicles thats every large event now. We have a lot of blocking vehicles out there. Reporter police say in addition to using septa buses, to keep parade goers warm, Police Officers on duty for the parade also have access to Warming Centers. If someone is getting cold, we can send them for a quick break to warm up and then right back out on the line. Turning to Burlington County firefighters rescued a family from their burning home. Flames trapped the family of three in their delanco house early this morning. That fire started around 1 30 on the 600 block of union avenue. The fire chief says when they arrived on the scene, they found the parents and the child standing on their roof trying to escape the flames. Fortunately they were able to make it out but sadly their pets did not. Fire Officials Say the ice and frigid temperatures made it that much more difficult to fight. It took about almost two hours to get it under control. Theres no fire walls in between so it took us a while we were chasing fire in the walls itself. All three family members and a firefighter were taken to the hospital. No word on their condition cond. Investigators are looking into what started that fire. On to developing story in maple shade a driver hit and killed a pedestrian on route 73. This is the third person hit on this road recently within half mile of each other. Neighbors are worried. The area is just too dangerous. Fox 29s Sabina Kuriakose joins us live now from maple shade. Sabina . Reporter lucy, right now, were looking at route 73 at rush hour but we all know it is busy any time of day or night. So with this latest fatal crash, people who live and work here are asking the state to make the area more walkable. I think sometimes they be racing each other. Thats how fast they be going. Reporter Jeanette Alice is arrived to the rush of cars going past her as she walks from her home off route 73 in maple shade. I either go straight down this. Reporter three pedestrians struck and killed by cars since september all along this stretch of roadway. All while crossing the street. Mid september a 40yearold man hit and killed near this shopping complex. Two months later a27yearold man fatally struck close to the same spot. Police say neither were walking in crosswalks. Theyre still trying to determine if the victim of this third deadly crash on that same lender of 73 on thursday night had the right of way. Theres a lot of people that live around here and they do walk. So they do need something out here to keep us safe. I grew up in mt. Laurel. Philadelphia police have released the name of an officer involved in a Police Shooting earlier this week. Authorities say officer christian pabone a four year veteran of the 18th district opened fire on a suspect Tuesday Morning in West Philadelphia. Investigators say he shot 21yearold Basil Harrison in the chest. When he didnt follow orders. Harrison survived and is charged with robbery, assault and carjacking after police say he stole a car then robbed a customer at a deli on south 52nd street. Philadelphia is in the middle of a surge in homicides the steve brotherly love set to finish the year with more homicides than its had in five years. As of thursday, records show that 314 people have died at the the hands of another person in the city this year. Thats a 13 increase from the same period last year and the highest number since 331 deaths in 2012. The homicides have increased. Police say the number of shootings, rapes and gun involved robberies are for some reason down. Its very difficult to anticipate if someone is having a bad day or has a conflict with somebody and they decide to leave their house with gun in their hand and shoot them given this is still america and constitutional protections its very difficult to interrupt that if you dont know about it. Experts say that its hard to say why homicides are up. New years eve in the big apple always draws a cloud crowd much this year will be no different and despite the cold, new york city says this years security will be the tightest its ever been. She saw firefighters across the street from her house doing what they do in the most miserable of conditions. Its terrible. Its terrible. Its freezing. Its cold. I thank god for them. Nearly 100 philadelphia firefighters on the scene late this morning battling the heat and the cold in brutal conditions. Not only is it brutal for also for the firefighters its exhausting you got all this equipment on, youre dealing with the heat and the cold and water. Them guys do an awesome job. Temperature out here made the conditions very tough. Our gear weighs about 100 poun 100 pounds. We have members in the back that are totally covered in ice right now. Reporter the report came in of a person trapped but everyone inside the twostory building was able to get out. Two firefighters though initia initially needed help. I just scene them rush two of them waiting in an ambulance and run one of them stayed inside. They pulled off with him inside. The other one got out. He had oxygen and Everything Else on. Reporter air this cold is freeze the water in fire hydrants and forces crews to maneuver on ladders differently and makes walking on a roof that much more treacherous. Its making it very tough. Obviously we have ladders up to the roofs, the roofs are just basically a skating rink up there. Reporter firefighters quickly got the upper hand and no one was seriously hurt. Its crazy. But at the end of the day, at least everyone made it out safely. Theyre doing a wonderful good job. Reporter now while we were out there we did see two men handcuffed at the time. Were not exactly sure why. There is no cause of the fire yet. That firefighter taken to the hospital is believed to have suffered, lucy, just minor injuries. All right. Thank you very much, brad. Busy time for firefighters. Look what happened in pemberton township, Burlington County. Sky fox over the 400 block of pemberton bypass huge clouds of smoke and probably steam there as well pouring from the roof. The fire broke out at about 11 45 this morning. Firefighters are still there in the damage is extensive. No one is hurt. Investigators are looking into what started it. Police are on the hunt for two men who they say assaulted and robbed a man and a woman in north philly. Investigators say the couple was walking along the 2100 block of west ellis street on december 10th when two men ran up behind them it happened a couple of weeks back. Police just released the surveillance video. One of the men pulled out a gun and forced the woman to give him her phone and keys. The other punched the man took his wallet. If you youve got information about what happened, call poli police. New years eve in new york city may set another record other than just being the coldest one in decades. The nypd says security in and around times square will be the tightest in the citys history. Officials are preparing for more than a Million People to ring in 2018 in the bitter cold. Troopers say she led them on chase going 115 miles an hour before, can you guess what happened . She crashed again and now shes in custody. No bond. An Apartment Fire in new york city being called the deadliest in nearly 30 years. 12 kids kill in the blaze last night including four children. Started from a young boy three and a half years old playing with the burner on the stove. Reporter bit mother heard him scream, saw the flames and ran outside with him and his sister. The front door was left open and that caused the fire to quickly spread. Fire travels up the stairway acted like a chimney. It took the fire so quickly upstairs that people had very little time to react. They couldnt get back down the stairs. Couldnt escape. Just two people, my sister and the baby eight months old. The smoke i guess overcame her. Everything happened so quick. Reporter other residents were forced under the fire escape waiting for help. You were on the fire escape for half an hour . Yeah. Many had no coats. One man ran out in his longjohns with no socks or shoes. Where is the snow now . Its off to the west around sections of the great lakes. Thats the clipper system that weve been advertising it is on the move right to the Delaware Valley early tomorrow morning.
