Reporter lucy, it was a routine night on the job for a Hamilton Township Police Officer. It turned out to be a night he will never forget. Was eight bird . Was eight plane . No, but it was a meteor lighting up the Atlantic County sky. The nature of this job sometimes you see a lot of unexpected things. Reporter in his career as a Hamilton Township Police Officer, Sergeant Michael verga has seen a lot of things but never seen this. It was 3 00 oclock in the morning. I was driving through one of our neighborhoods. Reporter it was 3am early saturday morning. He was object routine patrol driving down a pitch black road when the streaking light came out of nowhere. Seconds later, the green ball explodes in the sky and disappears. I just see like a blip in the sky and then i saw like a lime green light and streaked across the sky. Reporter the sergeant did what any good cop would do, he collected evidence. His patrol cars dash cam footage captured the moment the fire ball blazed across the new jersey sky. It turns out he wasnt the only one. According to the American Meteor Society which tracks these things, theres been more than 130 reports and several videos of the same fire ball in the sky from 13 states. One guying its the craziest thing i ever seen. For this cop, he says it was just another night on the job. I thought it was interesting. Um, you know middle of the night, you know, Something Like that to come out it was kind of neat to say. Reporter in case you missed this light show, coincidentally, the geminid meteor shower scheduled to be the largest biggest brightest meteor shower of the year comes december 13th. Police say a barricade situation is now ended in bristol bore o it shut down two local schools and ice rink for hours Late Afternoon and early evening. There was a Large Police Presence on pond street as Police Responded right now we are still working on getting details about any arrests. Two people are critical tonight after a shooting in kensington next to where someone was killed just two days ago. Now the States Office of Emergency Services tonight sent a fire alert text to 12 million Southern Californians warning of the dangerous conditions. The seven county alert is the largest ever issue. Roughly 30 miles from where it started as it now threatens the town of, 13,000 people who live here. There are four fires burning in the area in bell air, the creek fire north of burbank, to the northwest near Santa Clarita is the rye fire and to the west the thomas fire which burned toward the Pacific Ocean and Pacific Coast highway. Flames jumped lanes and temporarily closed busy stretch of 101 runway from ventura and santa barbara. 50,000 people forked to flee while more than 15,000 homes are in the danger zone. The red flag warnings will continue across Southern California until saturday but the forecasted winds did not come allowing firefighters to make headway even so this fire here is expected to burn for a couple of more weeks. Remember a couple months ago in october we were talking about santa rose sat napa valley to the north of la. To the north of San Francisco getting hit really hard. Now, these santa ana winds affecting the south la and down towards san diego. High pressure is the reason why and the winds around are clockwise. So you get these strong winds gusting to 65 even 70 miles an hour. You can see that red zone you have descending air low humidity that air is suppressed. It warms and that helps to fuel these fires and as long as the wind continues in this direction out of the north and east and continues to warm and gust youre going to have these flames become infernos and spread very quickly. Those winds are going to continue right through the weekend and the hope is that next week they will begin to calm and the wind will shift. As far as our weather here at home. Much calmer. The front doors were locked thursday and those parked in back raced off blowing a stop sign when i approached. We wanted to talk about the pastor, pastor harry element thomas who tonight is charged with sexually assaulting four minors. The offenses have been going on best we can tell dating back to 1999, havent continued through roughly 22015. Reporter chief says thomas alleged victims came to Police Monday with their claims of years of abuse. He says they were under 13 when the alleged abuse began. There was no answer at Thomas Medford home. Arrested wednesday hes in unnamed medical facility being treated for chest papers says a source and being guard. Neighbors unwilling to appear on camera expressed shock this man has lived across from thomas for decades. Its just seems to be, um, coming really pref len these days. He shot walter scott during traffic stop in april of 2015.
