Well, this year its back at love park, but take look, there is still construction here leaving some vendors to wonder will this construction scare away customers . So ready. Back at love park after construction last year forced the german Christmas Market to move across the street outside city hall. But the construction here hasnt exactly disappeared. And that has at least a few vendors nervous. This is not what we expected. Especially were disappointing with the construction its not done. And false promises the city said it would be done by time. Its not done. Today is like really slow. People dont really want to be bothered with coming here because of construction. I do think there are people that arent going to come because of nobody likes to walk over planks. Reporter others are not concerned saying the construction is somewhat out of view and the ground work completed at love park actually make shopping here safer. Workers and their children headed to the home of the brave in camden to feed Homeless Veterans today. The volunteers also brought donations including clothes and toilet tease to be distributed to the veterans. Op this thanksgiving one local family has an extra reason homecoming camden county, new jersey, man back with his family tonight after being deployed overseas. From berlin. Reporter a homecoming surprise here in south jersey the kind that makes you a little emotional. The Blackwood Fire Company was happy to supply a heros welcome to a longtime volunteer who just spent nine months in the middle east. Welcome home reporter special holiday homecoming started at Philadelphia International airport. When Sergeant Jason stott stepped off the plane and emotional reunion after a nine month tour in the middle east. Little did he know a crowd was waiting in his hometown in south jersey. As the police and Fire Department had unfolded and hoisted a massive american flag. And everyone was ready when Sergeant Stott was escorted back into the neighborhood. What a thanksgiving gift for the community. Its a very very very good gift for all of us. Reporter and this was a surprise. A thankful gathering. That included Sergeant Stotts ecstatic dog beau. His master was back on home so soil. Overjoyed, too, susan stott. They married last december and he was deployed three weeks later for the us army reserves. This is my first deployment that ive been through, and i give the military families a lot of credit. It is hard. Um, and i dont think i would have made it through this year without my family and friends. Reporter Sergeant Stott was humbled by this hometown greeting and happy to be back with family which includes the volunteer Fire Department. Its a Great Community to live in and be a part of, not just for this special occasion but other occasions that weve all come together. He wasnt supposed to come home for at least another month. Over a thousand soldiers and their families sitting down for a festive meal the chefs doing their very best to remind the troops of home. It took about 60 turkeys to prepare the enormous meal. This thanksgiving meal they prepare for us is absolutely amazing. They really out done themselves. I do have family back at home. I have a wife and two beautiful daughters i miss them very much but im here now and making the bet of it while i can. The troops were also joined by delegation of u. S. Congressmen who knew in to celebrate with the servicemen and women. President trump kicking off his first thanksgiving as commander in chief with visit to a coast guard station in in order. The president and the first lady shaking hands feeding members of the coast guard unit stationed in lake rivera north of palm beach. The holiday lunch set up for the men and women spending thanksgiving at the station included turkey sandwiches, fruit, pastries and cookies. A local woman stranded on the side of the road and the person who came to her rescue a homeless man named johnny. Well now shes paying him back big time. Workers hoisted the 68foot spruce using a large crane it took 12 days to deliver that tree which traveled across europe on truck from poland. The tree will be decorated and it will up in ceremony on december 7th. This next story has gone viral. It has to do with new jersey woman who is paying it forward. Kates car ran out of gas on i95 when homeless man Johnny Bobbit jr. Came to her rescue told her to stay in her car lock the doors and he would take care of the gas. He used his last 20 to go get it. To row pay him, she came back to the road where johnny stands to give him cash, clothes and food. But she wanted to do more. So she decided to set up a go mund fund me page in homes of getting enough money johnny could get housing the goal was 10,000. Check out where they are now. Yeah, more than 281,000. Pretty amazing amazing. What and an evident ten years ago a group of volunteers in philadelphia decided to host thanksgiving meals for those in need and in their neighbor. Its not about the drug epidemic or Community Problems on thanksgiving its just about showing this Community Still cares. Weve been doing this for years. As the years went by people kept uniting and it got bigger and bigger. What they do every say day is support people in kensington the lines started forming at 10 00 a. M. With prayer. People looking for a meal and some love. When she says it got bigger and bigger Wanda Martinez is being humble. Seeing the number of people eating and number of volunteers was both heart warming and impressive. I remember at one time we fed 200 people. Now were feeding almost 1800. The group is called Mothers Mission basically a group of women who started serving and then it expanded to their friends and family who believe in the saying, i am my brothers and sisters keeper. It doesnt take millions of dollars to help. You can help within your block, within your neighborhood, anybody, kids, adults, just he help. Reporter it became clear quickly how this commitment to community was much more than just a meal. This is what thanksgiving is all about. Giving back. And instilling hope and healing to the people that are out here still suffering from the grips of their addiction. They did it today but reminded us their commitment to this neighborhood and this city will continue for as long as it takes.
