He through a perfect game of may of 2010 and had no hitter in his first post season start. Halladay retired in 2013 as a blue jay after signing one day contract with them. Phillies fans will love him forever the entire Phillies Organization mourning right now. The phillies just released this statement. We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladays untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of most respec respected human beings to ever play the game. After he retired halladay pursued his other passion flying. Kristen, tragically this is not the first time a phillies player has been involved in a fatal plane crash. In october of 2006 former phillies corey lidle and copilot were killed when their plane hit an apartment complex on the Upper East Side of the new york. He pitched with the phillies from 2004 until 2006 when he was traded at the yankees. At the time of the crash he was only 34. Now to our breaking news story tonight. Corporal with the Pennsylvania State police shot during a traffic stop in the bethlehem right now hes in the intensive care unit. Lets get out to dave kinchen live at st. Lukes hospital in bethlehem where the trooper is being treat to do night. Dave . Reporter well, iain, colleagues of this state Police Corporal say he is up deed a fighter. Were told he is in extremely critical but stable condition all of this started with what would have been a simple traffic stop, a speeding ticket issued and that would have been the end of it instead it turned very violent. Trooper that was shot during traffic stop. Reporter chilling communication on police radio as help is called for a Pennsylvania State Police Trooper shot several times during a traffic stop on route 33 in plainfield township, Northampton County. Right now our guy is up there fighting for his life. He is a warrior. Reporter investigators say the unnamed corporal is critically injured but stable at st. Lukes hospital inbethlehem after what starter as a stop to give a driver a speeding ticket. Officials say the driver then flagged down the trooper asking about how to pay the ticket when he was then suspected of being under the influence of somethi something. At this point hes no longer free to go. Reporter with backup called, it got physical. The troopers were in a knock down, drag out fight along the side of the road with vehicles speeding by them and it got very very violent. Reporter state police say the suspect grabs a gun from his car and fires. One of our troopers was struck several times. Our troopers were able to return fire on the subject striking him multiple times as well. The other trooper is still engaging in the car and shooting at the vehicle while the subject is about to pull away. Reporter and after that shot suspect drove away he drove himself to easton hospital were told the back windows of that vehicle shot out. He was then taken to another hospital for surgery. Meantime again the injured corporal in extremely critical but were told stable condition here at the mop in bethlehem, and none of the names of those involved have been released at this time. This is guy who was friends with roy halladay. You could tell hes going to miss him a lot. You can tell how much he was hurt by this news and anybody whose followed baseball last ten, 15 years has herd the name roy halladay. This one of the best pitchers of our generation and sadly as you said just little while ago the sheriff down here in pasco county confirmd roy halladay of the pile lost that plane killed in the gulf of mexico when the plane crashed just earlier this afternoon around 2 00. According to investigators, his plane went down off the coast of holiday about 45 minutes or so north of tampa. At this point its unclear what happened to the plane. We know there was no may day call but somehow it ended upside down in shallow main grove area of the gulf. Marine unit and Swift Water Rescue Team made it out there but by then it was too late to save halladay. As i said, roy halladay was one of the best. You guys know for sure up in philadelphia how good he was. Played for 15 seasons witness blew jays and with the Phillies Halladay was a two time cy young award. Eight time all star. Philadelphia police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man in Oxford Circle this morning it it happened just after 10 00 on the 1600 block of alcott street. Reporter authorities confirm that one man has died and two other people are in Critical Condition from burns and smoke inhalation. They were met with heavy fire conditions on the first floor. Reporter fivepoint fire chief mike testa says firefighters rescued the two who were trapped inside. Three were transported. A relative who did not want to speak on camera told me her grandmother who uses a wheelchair and another relative along with a family friend were inside the home at the time of the fire. The Sheriffs Office says halladay was the only person on that plane and never made a may day call. Also tonight a Pennsylvania State Police Corporal is fighting for his life after being shot multiple times during a traffic stop. The suspect was also shot. Reporter thats right, iain. This all started with what was the issuing of a speeding ticket, but it quickly turned violent. We can tell you that corporal is in extremely critical but stable condition after being shot numerous times about three times according to police sources. Lets go to video right now. We can tell you that this is video of the suspect cars. State police tell fox 29 the suspect was shot multiple times but was able to drive all the way to easton hospital before being taken to another hospital for surgery. Meantime, the violent clash happened along route 33 in main field township Northampton County before 11 00 oclock this morning and investigators say the suspect was initially stopped for speeding. Ticketed and free to go but he flagged down the trooper asking about paying the ticket and was then suspected of dui at that point no longer free to go. Backup was called. Things got physical. Police say the suspect then pulled a gun from his car and opened fire. One of our troopers was struck several times. Our troopers were able to return fire on the subject striking him multiple times as well. He went through a heck of a fight out there along the side of the road and he has the will to live and god willing he is going to pool pull through this. Reporter and again, troopers by the side of the injured corporal at this time. Again the uninjured trooper was able to fire those shots as that suspect got away. You can see in that video the windows that were shot out there. None of the names of those involved including the injured corporal or the suspect have been released at this time.
