I think this is someone from the area that was in there and thinks theyre going to have an easy time of guesting money at the end of the night. Obviously, at some point, fires that gun, critically wounding this person, changing lives forever. Police believe this was an attempted robbery. The shooter took off quickly. Investigators tell us it was a neighbor who walked in around 8 30 and saw the woman bleeding profusely. Reporter bill rohrer fox 29 news as you likely already know, october is cancer awareness, Breast Cancer awareness month, its important now more than ever to be educated on the disease. According to u. S. Statistics, one in eight american women will develop invasive Breast Cancer over the course of other lifetime. About 2400 men are expected to be diagnosed this year as well. Joining us to break down what we need to know is dr. Masa. Lets start hearing kind of the personal stories of two cancer survivors who are here with us, abraham and delores, good morning. Good morning i want to start with you, when you think of Breast Cancer you dont generally think of men. How did you find out you had Breast Cancer i cut my breast in the gym. And it wouldnt heal. Im diabetic. I go to my doctor for three months checkup. And i mentioned it to him. I have a cut but it doesnt heal. He said let me look. Of he said you know what . I dont feel comfortable. You go see a specialist. I went to the doctor and saw dr. Christopher nealy. Thats when they told me its cancer. So you had to kind of push forward with this. Its not something they were looking for for you no, when they find it it was stage three. I have no clue what it was and i never heard of men having Breast Cancer. Laura your story every year i get a mammogram, this year, i got one and they called me back. They didnt feel any lump and i had two procedures, a lumpectomy and when they went to i want the surgeon i want to say gave me whats called a node test when they go in, it lights up. It lit up and showed that i had a cancer cell in my lymph node and lump in my breast. And ive had chemo, radiation, and im a survivor. You look great i feel great good. I feel great you look great too. I mean, this is my doctor and everything was excellent through jefferson from the time i walked in till the time i was diagnosed till the time i left. And i feel great doctor, both stories are kind of they were aware, they pushed forward. It wasnt initially found. Its a little scary, what should we be doing i think its a little bit different. So delores went for her annual mammogram, and well talk about that the recommendations. If youd like but followed the guidelines, thats how her cancer was diagnosed. Abraham its a little bit different. With men, only 1 of all Breast Cancers are found in men. So if you look at the incidents of Breast Cancer, like you said, if you look at new cases invasive cases in 2017 we estimate theres 250,000 cases in women, where theres only 2500 in men. And because its so uncommon, theres no recommendations for screening. Like abraham, men need to know if you do feel something is wrong, you feel a lump, skin changes, immediately go and see your doctor, dont wait too long because what happens if you wait too long, then you present with a more advanced stage of the cancer in both cases, well continue the discussion, theres so much more we want to do but both cases follow the doctors guidelines, once its so we dont need to panic. Once these things happen, theyre still both doing well a diagnosis of Breast Cancer can be overwhelming, theres fear, anxiety, but there are excellent treatments. We have many survivors that do wonderful, look at both of them. So really dont panic, be aware of the risks. And as soon as there is a finding go to be doctor we got to leave it there.
