We havent heard any word about any injuries or deaths from puerto rico yet but im sure theyre still trying to figure that out scott, right now where is it . 75 miles north of punta cana republican Dominican Republic t means it is now a category three hurricane again, still, lashing sections of puerto rico, Dominican Republic, about 2 feet of rain has fallen there on the island right now it movement to the north and west, nine piles per hour, 115 Miles Per Hour winds it looks like it wants to parallel the eastern seaboards for the incoming weekend into early next week, more dangerous surf and more rip current, moving now toward the turks and caikos, with some of those rain bands, that will be impacting that vicinity with Hurricane Force winds, later on today into the first part of the weekend. Now puerto rico slammed by Hurricane Maria, winds in excess of 150 Miles Per Hour, whipped across the islands for several hours yesterday, the storm pushed it way through, homes destroyed, winds toppled trees, and power lines, many people here in philadelphia, have not been able to reach their relatives on the islands. Yesterday bruce gordon talked to people in fairhill say they havent talked to their family members since the storm approached. While people here are fearing the worse, many remain hopeful very nervous about whats going on. No electricity, no water, a lot of debris from the previous hurricane that make it more dangerous over there. Everybody worry about their family, about whats going on over there. Everybody say, man, it is sad that already this hurricane jose, irma, now we have maria, you know, going through puerto rico. And everybodys worried. So there is storm comes just few days before a thousands of philadelphians plan to celebrate their puerto rican heritage, at the puerto rican parade. Happening on sunday, along the ben franklin parkway. And it is something that people, a lot of people in our city, look forward to, year after year. This year, might be a little bit different given the circumstances, mike and alex quite a bit different. No question about it. Okay, look at the eye of that thing, so defined. Most of my family ive not heard from anyone, most of my family lives in puerto rico. Praying for everybody, everybody had prayers, sandy, i have family over there. Unable to communicate due to the island cell towers being smashed. And the power outage. So people are literally in the dark, and figure tiffly, as well. So you can only imagine what that feels like. And who knows when theyll get to hear from the family theyre saying month before there is any power at all. Imagine the whole island. Zero power. All right, 6 08 so now Getting Better look at the damage that Hurricane Maria left on the island of st. Croix. Look at this. This is drone footage of the island, it shows just how extensive the damage s trees are down. Homes are flooded. Roofs are ripped right off of buildings. And a lot of the island whether it comes to st. Croix and the us virgin islands, they dont know when theyll back up. This tourist season definitely out. Thats the main source of their money and their income saint thomas, saint john, st. Croix, and dominick a left completely devastated in the storms wakement look at this area footage. Shows collapsed building, same thing, debris everywhere, foliage is gone, officials there say the storm cut power and Running Water on the island. They dont have power or water. Just need to rebuild years, or decades, to make it way the way it did a month ago. Now down to he saidshe said in this i guess could you call it sex scandal surrounding our own kevin hart. It is about 130,000 Puerto Ricans who live in philadelphia. They cant reach their loved ones. So, jenny joyce is joining us now, in fairhill, with i guess, whats being done today . Mike anal he can, large portion of the 130,000 people from puerto rico who live here in philadelphia live in the fair hills section of the city, which is where we are live. And at this hour, many people are still sleeping. So we havent caught up with them yet to get an update. But as of last night, our bruce gordon was out about in this neighborhood. He talked to several people. Most people said it had been couple every days since they last talk to their friends and their family members in puerto rico after maria came into the area. A doozy after storm that made landfall yesterday, caring winds in excess of 150 miles an hour, at times. The forceful winds snapped trees, tore roofs off of homes and buildings, and knock down utility polls, causing islandwide outage. So philadelphia, as we mention, has the second largest puerto rican population outside of the island itself. A lot of these people in philadelphia saying prayers for their family and friend. Well, yesterday i was trying to contact her, and i didnt no communication with her. And i saw the news from puerto rico, and they say they probably going to have it shut down the whole island with no electricity, and no communication. So at this point, im waiting all this goes through im very nervous. Very nervous, all the family. I wish i can just to find out that she is alive. You just want to find out lee is a strife thats it. We dont care what will happen the house can be replaced it yes, yes that woman just want to go finds out whether or not her sister is alive. And Hurricane Maria is the largest storm to hit puerto rico in roughly 80 years, and while we can talk about homes, and businesses, being rebuilt, again, these people just want to make sure their loved ones are alive. Well, overnight, the mayor of mexico says 115 people are dead in his capitol city following that huge earthquake. That bridges the countrys total death toll to 245. First responders now digging through the rubble. They did all night long searching for survivors, dozens every buildings toppled, collapsed completely with hundreds more significantly damaged by that huge 7. 1 quake. It is a difficult situation. Fortunately, with the city this big, there werent more build, but it is serious. We hope this because a lot of buildings have been affected. As we told you yesterday, this powerful quake struck 32 years to the day. Of an earthquake that killed more than 10,000 people. President trump has promised mexicos president any necessary aid. Hell provide it. 6 37. The guy caught on camera punching a man with disability outside after local 7eleven, will go to trial. Police arrested barry baker, for the assault back in may. Baker was expected to plead guilty at a hearing yesterday. But, at the last minute, he contested saying he did not agree with the evidence that prosecutors introduced in the case.
