Fairfax county police are investigating this latest case, lets go live to matt ac lan with more on this. Matt . Reporter hi, czar, a you might remember last friday night, we were here in Fairfax County really doing a similar story. This happened in the fair lakes area at a restaurant there. Tonight authorities dont believe that these are connected but they are investigating another case here at the mall behind me, lets take to you video, where it happened, it happened on sunday at the hollis err store inside the fair oaks mall. It happened they believe between 2 00 and 3 00 in the afternoon. A 13 year old apparently was trying on clothes when she saw a cell phone filming her. Now, Authorities Say there was video footage from inside the store at the time. These are pictures that come from police from that video now, they believe this person may have some information about this case, but police are not calling him a suspect. By the way, we should tell you that authorities do not believe that the one at the restaurant and the one here are connected. You might remember that a 17 year old employee was a suspect in the restaurant case. The person here that theyre looking for, they just dont know, but that man that you saw in the video, they would like to talk to that man hoping that he might have some other information to help solve this latest case at the fair oaks mall. The owner of the phone may have been taking pictures of witness for the prosecution in the case of two High School Students killed on the eve of their graduation. Rockville with more on this tonight, paul . Reporter hey there, guys, yes, late breaking information in this case that weve been digging into for hours now. This is what i can tell you. There has been a trial going on here in Montgomery County Circuit Court for about a week now, this is a trial of jose, one of four men accused of killing the two Northwest High School student on the eve of their graduation. What we know is on wednesday morning as testimony was going on this woman who was sitting in the courtroom was seen using her cell phone to take what appeared to be pictures. The judge stopped the trial. Keep in mind, there is no jury here. It is just a judge. The judge stops the trial. He asked the woman to come up to the bench. He then questioned that woman. He took her phone. And he then had her escorted out of the courtroom and told her not to come back. What we understanded is that phone is now in the possession of the judge, whats going to happen to that phone in question at this point, and it is unclear exactly what is on that phone and what pictures may have been taken, what i can tell you is that the person who was on the stand at the time is a key witness in this case, a woman who had been in protective custody. She had been in protective custody for quite a while, by Montgomery County police after she came forward in october to tie a lot of this case together. In fact, she was the key in getting a fourth person arrested the in the case. Now, jose chose to have his trial heard by a accused of conspiring with three other now to kill ardem and at this point it is unclear whether any charges are going to be filed in this case, and it is unclear as to whether or not this woman was able to take those photographs and sends them out perhaps via a text or an email. The investigation is ongoing. But it is all being handled by the judge in the Sheriffs Office and the Police Department at this point, were told, are not involved. One person who did not is george lavoy. We spoke with him today. He says he went to the doctors office, just two days ago, and was informed his Health Insurance was canceled. Says he receives benefits through medicaid, he went to this southeast Medicaid Service center, and thats when he says he was told a computer glitch is to blame for his Health Insurance cancellation. Now, lavoy says there were hund people there facing the same situation, medicaid recipients not given any notice about this record policy cancellation. Until they can rectify the problem, i dont have Health Insurance until they get it reestablished. If it is a click after button to cancel your policy, it should and click after button to reinstate it immediately. Telling me it might be tuesday to reinstate it, meanwhile, i have no Health Insurance, until tuesday, possibly because there are so many hundreds of people right now dont have insurance. We head west, california continues to recover from deadly mudslides. Now learning the massive wild fire that triggered the mudslides is finally contained. Socalled thomas fire broke out more than a month ago, destroyed hundreds of homes, scorched nearly 300 acres every lands. The fire left the ground bear and unable to absorb the water when heavy rains moved in days ago which triggered the mud slide. They damaged hundreds of homes and buildings including this church in motoceto shows the mud that covered the two story chapel. Guys, incredible december 28th, Authorities Say gregory lee shot and killed his wife in their fredericks berg apartment before leading police on chase shortly after. That will one of those responding officers was Stafford County deputy cody mccormick. Shots fired. You can hear from this dash cam footage, the life threatening moments of that day, a Virginia State trooper was originally pursuing 42 year old lee, and mccormick heard over the radio that shots had been fired. He jumped in his vehicle, and took off to help the trooper. When he finally got up next to him on i95, he saw the black suv they were pursuing, and then he saw a gun come out. Cant move very far. I was able to get down to the right, just out of the way enough that by my kalu lakes cents trying to move the car afterward, probably missed me by an inch. It hit the headrest about as dead center as you can possibly imagine, and then it went through the headrest, came out the backf headrest, struck the plexiglass cage, actually cracked. That will i had a bunch of glass shards from the windshield, you know, lodge in the my face and in my neck. Bunch of cut on my hands. Amazingly, both mccormick and that Virginia State trooper were able to avoid the bullets aimed straight for them. State lawmakers reacting to the state audit, revealing widespread fraud and poor recordkeeping in the Public School system. School board member edward borrows told lawmakers internal audit two years ago revealed the same issues that were never addressed or revealed publicly. I think a lot of people dont realize, there are laws on the books here when it comes to equal pay. So what is it people need to know going into this . Well, you are absolutely right. What i think were experience something not whether there are laws, but the enforcement of laws. So weve been talking about harrassment. What youre really seeing is the implementation, enforcement by employers. This is kind of the same issue here. But it is also that we dont have better act, that enforces, that you cannot have pay disparity, but the issue is how do you know what your colleagues are making . Do you discuss it . How do you get that information . Some companies as we were talking about before, cant discuss that here in the u. S. Iceland is the first country in the worlds if you have 25 or more employees you have to file annual reports disclosing what the salaries are. And it is punitive if you are paying men an amount more than women. Were not there here, but what i say is really no your rights, do your research as an employee, do your research. Lots of google websites, salary. Com. You can say okay, hey, at this place, previous employees disclose what theyve made. So there is usually arrange, the challenges most women, and im making a general irisation, i know, but they say hey, heres the offer. And i take it. Not knowing that you actually can counteroffer and say hey, well i know the range may be 50 to 75, you offered me 50. Because of my experience, years on the job, and a recommendation, let me counter with 60 and see what the offer comes back with. Well, what, you know, talking about negotiating, what are some of the other things that perhaps you should prepare for going into and that i do need, you know, x amount of money. Right. You know the biggest thing is asking. We do not ask. You know, ive owned my own company, but i have been employed many times. Ive gone through that interview. Im so excited. And i just want the job. And when they come back with hey here is the amount, i just except it notion now knowing now, 20 years ago, you really have the opportunity to say, hey, i want to counter. And i think people just dont know that basic information, so thats one thing. The second thing is, like you said, know your value. Know your worth. Do your research in terms of okay, look, i have letters of recommendation in my file, if youre in the same space and want to get a raise, say hey on this day, my supervisor gave me this raise, this accommodation, so i want to use that as leverage to increase the salary. But most people just dont ask, and so j says, if you dont ask, you dont get it. Thats true. But lets say you do ask. You do make a point. You know, are you find that a lot of places out there just arent budging . When it comes to negotiating . No, thats not the case. Do you, it is the former, that people are not asking, theyre just happy to have a job. And i understand in the economic climate, you know, people are just happy to have it. But now, dust is settling, people are becoming aware, i think people didnt even know women didnt know that theyre being paid 25 to 40 less, so now use that information, use that knowledge, and go in and ask. What is the salary range . And then when you frame the narrative that way, instead of just asking, or excepting an offer, i think youll open a conversation to asking for more.
