Southern maryland now under Winter Weather advisory and a winter storm warning were loolooking at the heavier snow s going to be late tonight and early tomorrow morning well get light snows across the area it will stick. So again with these very cold temperatures weve had so far this year, what falls will st stick. Deep freeze is causing issues as you know across the region especially for schools. So far weve told you about burst pipes, no heat, bus issues. Im just worried about the students that had to be out here for a long time. You know, teenagers they dont dress as warmly as us old folks do. But needless to say, i mean it is very very cold out here. Were talking temps in the teens this early morning. The it feels a little better now with the sun out. But imagine there are still kids standing at bus stops waiting for their buses to get to them. You mentioned the heat not working. That was over in Montgomery County yesterday. Some heating issues at some schools including Richard Montgomery high were told that this morning there are no issues that they are doing just fine. Now here in Fairfax County the big issue was the buses and so buses like behind me here we sort of saw it all play out early this morning. These are the buses that have been sitting out much more across the bus lots in the county they were basically sitting out over the last two weeks during the winter break and so clearly with the frigid temperatures they didnt get any jump starts or any engines werent, you know, turned on over the last two weeks. So they just decided not to start some of them and some buses even broke down along the route. So that is the big issue here in Fairfax County it left hundreds of students waiting outside in the cold yesterday for up to an hour. This morning we can tell that you we already saw problems just after 5 00 oclock i want to show you the snapshot of delays in the county right now at 9 00 oclock. There are buses headed to the schools that either broke down or theyre experiencing pro problems. Most are delayed by either 15 to 20 minutes. You can see some are delayed by more than 30 minutes. Youve got belvedere elementary and franconia those three were just added to the list of these delays. This list is far fewer than yesterday, though, out of 808700 bus routes in the country work hundred were impacted yesterday. So this a much shorter list, but still youre talking about, you know, kids waiting for their buses outside in this cold temperature. We have a call into the School System to see what theyre doing to make sure they dont experience similar problem in the week, you know, tomorrow were talk something snow. And keep in mind, they do have just over 1600 buses in that are fleet. The second largest in the country. So perhaps they were able to swap some buses out but we did see mechanic out here this morning fixing problems as they arise. We spoke with neighbor whos watched helplessly as the fire intensified while two people inside desperately pleaded for help. And tonight for the first time youll hear from the real life heroes. Reporter at 5,000 calls day, Prince Georges County 911 call center is the third busiest in the country. I have calls still are with me. That call stuck with me for couple weeks. Thats all i can think about. I cant tell you about the rest of my day. Reporter on any given day someone live on the other end of the phone is on the line. Its very her not knowing exactly whats going on because you can see going based on what someone is telling you and theyre crying and screaming in panic that doesnt help you. She said dont go in. She said dont go in. There is no room for error at all. None. Two people trapped inside the home. Female and in wheelchair theyre trying to find a locate. I knew they made it out of the house. I wouldnt if they made it at the hospital. I cant tell you how many i cried all the way home. The person calling 911 it could be the worse day of their life and we understand that and treat th the bad thing is we never ever get closure and thats a very very hard thing. These 911 call takers and dispatchers say these calls never get easier unlike the First Responders on the ground, they rarely know how the call ends and oftentimes they leave work wondering if the victims they helped made it to see another day. Unfortunately, in this fire the First Responders did everything they can but ultimately both the son and his mother died at the hospital. My whole thing i tend to completely disengage. If youre doing something im not feeling, i cut it off and i can move on. Youre good. Youre good. Before we decide to cut people off, we really should be also examining ourselves because any time a relationship breaks down, there are two cone that caused it to break down. Sometimes it means one person has out grown the other. Sometimes it means someones behavior is too tock six but evaluate he is special physical youre cutting off multiple people. You want to first evaluate what have i done to contribute to the break down . Either via loud something, i have accommodated something, ive been too passive, ive been too angry, whatever it may be, and then get the lesson and then you have the conversation. The first evaluate. What if youve done the homework and do say ive done all of that its really not me. I need to divorce this person from my life. What do you say and do to get that ball rolling where it doesnt turn into this oh, World War Three because you just need to be in better space for yourself . Absolutely. Sure. So its what i having the honest and courageous conversation. So many folks especially now, yall, people what we call ghosting folks. Theyll either, you know, diss value on facebook or disengage ghost you, send a text message. As far as its safe youre really at the core feel that this person will not harm you or hurt in you any way type of way, if they were quality enough for to you either date or be friends with or being your family, then have a quality conversation with them. Theyre going to work. And the trends weve seen in Montgomery County is that the ive been to most recently the smoke alarms alerted people theyve gotten out. Reporter and that is a new law taking effect just this month. Your smoke alarms have to have a tenyear battery in them as w well. So good working smoke alarm and Carbon Monoxide detector. Also, if you have a furnace, a water heater, space heater, keep everything away from them, guys, because as pete mentioned and the fire officials around the region will tell you is people will leave inadvertently loo leave a rag on the fireplace or clothing and materials around your water heat, your furnace a space heater. That can be combustible, and again, it seems like a lot of common sense things but we cover these fires, these emergencies and often its that scenario that someone did something they probably new better of and also didnt have a working smoke alarm, guys. You know, i think its the story telling, but central to the popularity i think is the partnership of molder and scully played by david sue could have knee and Jillian Anderson i think its that relationship that is the beating heart of the show. Now, are we going to see agent doing get at any point during this show . Is he coming back at you havely, agent doing get does not make it back this year. Hes got another job. He has another job. So i also want to talk real quick. The music is kind of iconic as well because when i hear the music, i know what is coming. Or somewhat whats coming. How did you come up with that how do you come up with with well, the composer came up with the music. The theme song is something that he worked long and hard on. We consulted. We i always told him i wanted it to be something that the boy scouts could sink around the camp fire but short of that i think they can whistle it. How did you actually, you personally come up with the whole concept for the x files . There were shows on when i was a kid twilight zone, night gallery, the knight stalker, these were i thought the best shows on tv, and so when i became television producer, its exactly what i wanted to do. Thank you very much. When i think about cold weather i want something that sticks to my bones hearty soups. Yes. Isnt cuts of meat that are really thick and juice glee yeah. Anything that just makes me feel like im at grandmas house and she wrapped that warm blanket around me. Im glad im here. I got short ribs for you. Now if you dont know what short ribs are theyre like a chuck roast or chuck flat. If you cant get this, you can get ox tail, pot roast, you can get pork shoulder whatever you want to make it happen as long as its aou the meat that is a part working muscles because animals walk like this. When you say tough, im hearing i need to cook this longer maybe low and slow. Low and slow. Always. This here, we got these short ribs. Just salt and pepper nice hard zero you got that crust youre building flavors one pot meal. All youre going to do here just to start little bit of onion. Your basic onions, celery, you know what it is. Carrots. Yes. Now this the great thing about these dishes they can go wherever you lead them. If you want to put red wine like im going to do a nice cabernet you can do that. You can do grape juice. Do you care apple juice. Do you care whatever you want. When you have the ingredients like this i noticed my inclination would be to maybe saute the onions first before i put the carrots and celery. You dont have to do that. You dont have to. You can its all part of the building layers of flavor but we only got three to five. Okay. All right. You can zero roar meat. You add your wine. Youre only liquid will be the wine in this one. No, no, no. We brought the secret veal stock. Veal stock. If you dont have veal stock beef broth, chicken broth is cool, too. But in the restaurant we like to use veal stock this will help give you that oomph and of course our aromatics. Umhmm. Cant forget about your rosemary. Yes. And your thyme just the kind of give eight little flavor. Its not going to impact that much. But its going to put some smelling in your house. So people are going to walk in. A sprig in there and let it do its thing. Absolutely. Cover that. Okay. Little bit of foil. You dont want to put the pan cover on it put a foil cover. Why the foil. Its going to the oven. One pot set it and forget if you dont trust your oven perfect for the crock pot, slow cooker. You can put this on 250 let it go for six hours depending how much time you have or 350, 375 for about three hours. Lets pop that in. Weve got two more dishes to show. Two minutes to go. Wonderful. Well get that in there. I see theres going to magic happening. Yes. In a little bit. While you guys were talking i was over here rueing. If you see this, this is about the color of uhuh want to get darker dont you afraid. Thats right. You can go dark. The darker the berry the sweeter the juice. You know what it is. I was aint got to say thumbs you see this color here. Stand back. Okay. Because the water in these vegetables that was just a simple rue you had had in there. Just butter and flour. Youll add some onions, some celery, some peppers, what they call the trinity, now this is going to be, you know, youll cook this in with your vegetables and again stand back because it steams up as you can see. Get a lot of that here. Youre going to cook your vegetables in the rue. See how it comes away . Pan is not burnt at the bottom you can really smell the vegetables coming out. This is very simple soup to make dont be inn tim dayed hardest thing to do is the rue but low and slow patience is the key. After that, well have to speed speed you up a little bit. Fried chicken on top of that. On top of that. Whats our liquid . Chicken stock. Chicken stock. Chicken broth. Dump that in. There we are. Chef because again were being rush here. Is this the finished product here. Can i use the spoon and stir it. Absolutely. When its done it looks just like that. Look how thick and delicious that is. Right over the rice.
