Sure looks pretty outside gary. It does, all the snowy rooftops out there. Yes and you know what the snow does when you have a beautiful blanket of light snow is that it lights up that dark sky. It does. So pretty. Listen, it looks like for the most part the snow is over but the cold temperatures are not. One of the this is not really a big deal in terms of snow. Very little snowfall across the region but its so cold and its caused some definitely some slippery conditions out there this morning. Theyre out treating and pretreating but when it gets this cold that doesnt make much of a difference but i just want to show you, theres still technically some Winter Weather advisories in place. All of this is to the north of the city. You know be careful in the city, theres no doubt about that. Give it a couple more hours and it will be a lot better to get around out there if you have to. Again, cold is going to be the big story because theres even colder air coming in tonight. So, the Winter Weather advisory, its still technically in effect through noon today. County, northern parts of baltimore county, too, and theyre expecting potentially a little bit more snow up there. Were not talking about a lot of snow up there but i think whats going to end up happening is that there could be maybe as much as 2inches of snow in some places and i think most of this is going to end up being up into pennsylvania where they actually get a couple of inches. How much have we had so far . Again, little bit goes a long way with these really cold temperatures. Of course the roads are all completely cold so everything stuck as soon as it hit. Less than a half inch for annapolis, fairfax right at a half inch and in d. C. For American University, a little bit less than a half an inch as well. And its pretty consistent across the area right now. Another arctic shot cold air comes in tonight. It will be just as cold as what weve already gotten stow i dont see a warming trend coming up any time soon, okay, just so you know. Its 23 degrees right now. Dulles 20, 20 degrees in the teens for westminster. Fredericksburg is 23. And there is a little bit of a wind chill factor as well. Feels like about 15 degrees out there, mostly feels like its in the teens across the entire region. I want to show you well, the computers acting up. I dont know what look at that, annie. Its just cold. It doesnt want to produce. Its that talk of arctic shot that youve got over there. Thats right, thats right. I just want to say that the little bit of light snow we still have in places lifting out. We still have the chance for some flurries today. Very, very cold. Temperatures only in the middle 30s. Lets get right to the some breaking news from overnight while you were sleeping firefighters in Montgomery County worked to battle a massive fire in gaithersburg. Were told at one point several people were trapped inside the building. Fox5s tisha lewis is live on the scene with the very latest and tisha, what can you tell us . Reporter well, hundreds of firefighters responded to here behind me in gaithersburg. You can see firefighters are still on the scene. Now, we are told that for the most part the fire is out but residents tell me within the last hour they had a banging on the door asking them to evacuate. Were told that nearly a dozen families are displaced right now. They are taking shelter in an Elementary School that is nearby. You can see the scene right now, its still active. Again, hundreds of firefighters from Montgomery County responded to this fire. Joining us live now is Fernando Reyes. You are displaced. Tell us what happened. It was 5 00 in the morning i just hear banging on the door and theyre just screaming fire and then i thought it was gunshots for a second cause it was the bang the banging was so hard i thought it was gunshots. I didnt want to run to the door if it was gunshots and then my uncle went and opened the door and they were screaming get out and then we come out and its two building were waiting to see what happens and then they go into io the buildings and i dont know what the cause of the fire was or whats going on but were just waiting on right now. Reporter now, the fire happened here at this building, 880. You live here with your family. Tell us, was your home destroyed . It was not. Thank god it wasnt. Everythings good. By the way it looks. We actually live right next to it so were good. Yeah, thank god that my whole family is good. We were a family of nine people, so everything is good. Everyone is safe, so thats good. Reporter fernando what can you tell us about the family where the fire happened . That i do not know. I cant tell you i didnt go about that. Im pretty sure everyone is safe. Everyone is at the Elementary School so that is good. That is good news. But i think the apartment that caught on fire, there was no one living in it, pretty sure no one got hurt so thats pretty good. Reporter thats what were hearing fernando. Thank you so much. Back to you. Now to some breaking news out of california. A female officer is in the hospital this morning after being shot in an ambushstyle attack. It happened in los angeles overnight just before 1 00 a. M. Eastern time. The officer was hit with a bullet in the thigh. She is now in stable condition. Police arrested one person in connection with the shooting and are searching to are more suspects. And happening today, friends and family will pay their final respects to scott and buckley fricker. A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in herndon around the two were murdered inside their reston home last week. Police say their daughters teenaged boyfriend shot and killed them both then turned the gun on himself. The teen suspect is now in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries and is charged with their murders. Investigators say the suspect had neo nazi views and scott and buckley were murdered after they tried to get their daughter to break up with him. Time now 7 07. New this morning out of Prince William county, a Police Officer is in the hospital after a driver attacked the officer during a traffic stop. It happened around 8 oclock last night near princess ann lane and west long view drive in woodbridge. Police say two passengers ran away. And officers arrested the driver. The injured officer was airlifted to the hospital and the good news is he is expected to recover. Now to a developing story out of northern virginia. There are questions swirling around a home in sterling this morning after more than a dozen fbi agents spent hours raiding the place. It happened along courtyard square yesterday. Neighbors say the Townhome Community is normally a then yesterday they all heard loud bangs as fbi agents busted down the front door. Its pretty quiet. Its not a bad neighborhood. Its i im not quite sure what to think honestly. Im just very curious at this point. Federal agents spent several hours in the neighborhood carrying out multiple boxes. Fox5 is still working to learn more about the investigation and about the person who lives in that home. The Trump Administration has fired all members of hiv aids Advisory Council after a half dozen members resigned in protest. The white house dismissed the rest this week through a letter. The council was founded in 1995 to offer recommendations on the national hiv and aids strategy. The makeup of the Virginia House of delegates will not be determined until next year. The state board of elections will meet thursday to decide the winner of district in newport news. Were following up on a deadly car crash in Charles County that killed three people. Investigators have identified a second victim as gonzikensy dyson jr. Cell phone video as you see here captured the moments right after the car hit a tree and caught on fire. The driver, Eric Lamont Moss died at the hospital. The third victim has not been identified. And we have new details in that devastating Apartment Fire in the bronx in new york city. The flames killed 12 people including four children on friday. The fire commissioner says it was started by a child who was playing with a kitchen stove. The boys mother heard him scream, she saw the flames and ran outside with him along with his sister. Firefighters say she opened and the stairwell acted like a chimney which caused the fire to spread faster. Many people are still in the hospital or without a home this morning. Aircrafts will monitor the event from above while bomb sniffing dogs will be at work on the ground. There also be more plice officers in hotels and Office Towers overlooking times square. Most of these spots here across Northern Maryland may fluff up to one, okay. Theres still a little bit of snow coming through. Ill show that you coming up on radar here in just a second. Cold, though. 23 degrees. Everything that fell stuck. Roadways, rooftops, grassy areas. Otherwise if it was a little bit warmer we would be talking about grassy areas covered. Its very slippery especially untreated roads. Lower 20s to the south of us. Wind chill factor is a bit is present for some, okay. I mean, it feels like 15 in town. It feels like 11 for westminster. Feels like 11 for gaithersburg. This afternoon the winds are going to kick up again. More arctic air coming in. This little fast moving through. I know theyre kind of talking northern frederick but technically where the snow is falling now in hagerstown, Washington County, down i81, theres no Winter Weather advisory in place, but up here, notice this is a little heavier spot up in the southern pennsylvania and then up towards harrisburg theres a little snow shower, too, running up 15, so just watch that and then everything over to the Eastern Shore. Theres still a couple of waves possible. Notice were seeing a little bit more enhancement back out to the west. This still has to come on through, so technically speaking, all of this snow is not over yet but i think weve gotten most of what were certainly here in the dmv, u. Check out the cold numbers. Buffalo is 14. So is detroit. Here is the next you see right here coming right up to chicago and then down into the central plains, thats the next true arctic air mass coming our way. Minus 19. Thats the actual air temperature for fargo and then minus 30s up here in the providence of canada. Wow. So, this High Pressure comes in and this will be for new years eve and new years day. Watch what happens when i show you the sevenday forecast, okay, because if you dont like the cold, youre not going to like this at all. Lots of highs on this thing in the 20s. Ouch. How can you help me out . Because if you begin with people that you trust, then theyll introduce you to people they trust and so you stay within the circle of trust. Do you think this is going to be a good year . 2018, a good year if somebodys thinking about making a change and they want are people going to be hiring or is it going to be the time to start a new business . If you want to start up your own business, theres great opportunity, so i think 2018 is going to be great. And one of the best things to do is you really have to do your research. So, its a snowy saturday, ga i think most of the snow thats going to accumulate is gone, okay. So, what weve got, weve got. In the Northern Areas they may get a little bit more but not a whole lot. Not a whole lot. Of course this little clipper has come by but i think the big story remains the cold. Yeah. Its going to get colder. And what can happen in times like this is it doesnt take much snow to kind of, you know, make those roads slippery. Oh, my gosh. Because of the pavement temperature. Its very slippery out there especially on the untreated roads so just keep that in mind. I think the road crews are doing a great job and shelby our floor director she was just saying that where its untreated, its really bad and then you get to places where its been salted and theyre treating it, its a lot better. I dont want you to be reckless or anything but just so you know. I want to look at visibility real quickly because it does tell a little bit of a story especially where its snowing. You see where we have 10mile to 9mile visibility, its all good. Snow is flying for hagerstown and cumberland where the visibilities reduced to 4 miles and also for baltimore as well. T these are the latest accumulation totals i could find, the most relevant. You know what i mean. Annapolis is a little bit less than a half inch. At American University a little under a half inch as well. Another arctic shot coming. That starts coming in later today and tonight. Temperatures will drop. The wind is going to kick up. Wind chill values are going to be down in the Single Digits hovering around zero as the cold air comes in again tonight and tomorrow. Snow is still flying to the north of us. Winter weather advisory still in place through noon for these purple counties. That does include frederick, not Washington County and those along i81 where the snow is still happening right now but farther up to the north there could be up to 2inches of snow. You see this little bulls eye right here in southern pennsylvania . Thats where i think they potentially could get one, one and a half up to 2inches of snow. Northern counties a few more flurries coming and well watch this little enhancement back out to the west as it comes on across. It could still drop a little bit more but again, i think al the significant snowfall and it hasnt been much but i think thats past us up to the east and to the northeast all right. It is cold outside no doubt and firefighters had to work through those tough conditions to put out a massive fire that ripped through a building in gaithersburg overnight. Firefighters were forced to frigid temperatures and fox5s tisha lewis is live out there right now with the very latest. Tisha, what can you tell us now . Reporter well, annie, youre correct, its freezing literally. Theres snow on the ground so you can only imagine the challenges that firefighters face when they responded to the fire here at the potomac oakes apartment here in gaithersburg. Now, residents who live here tell me that they heard banging on their door early in the morning requesting that they evacuate. You can see the building is empty. You can see that there is fire damage. Were told hundreds of firefighters responded to the fire, responded to this building around 4 45 this morning. Dozens of families are displaced including andy green, and you are standing here looking at your home. Tell us whats going through your mind right now. You know, im just happy that everybody got out and everyone is safe. I dont know what to think at this point. You know, i dont know how bad the damage make that assessment when these guys are done itch what did you see and what did you hear when all of this was unfolding. A lot of banging, a lot of screaming, people just trying to help each other get out. And a lot of confusion. We werent really sure how bad it was until we actually got outside and was able to look at the adjacent building. And it was engulfed. It was pretty bad. Reporter now, you and i were chatting. Thankfully your unit is not damaged . I dont think so. We havent been able to go inside and take a look yet. But it doesnt seem like theres too much damage over there. Reporter we do know that families are getting some shelter and some aid over at Brown StationElementary School. Have you been there and whats the sentiment . Everybodys pretty much just huddled up in a couple classrooms and just trying to make sure that everyones again safe. I know theres a lot of families that are just trying to keep their kids occupied d red cross is supposed to be coming out. I havent been able to go there and doublecheck that yet but. Reporter now just joining us to kind of break down a little bit of whats next and whats happening behind us, cause theres still a lot of firefighters here as Pete Piringer with the Montgomery County fire and rescue tell us a little bit about what happens now. Well, it was a second alarm fire and an ems task force which brought about a hundred firefighters to the scene. Our First Priority was to get everybody out so dozens of people were assisted out of the building fortunately. They werent out in the elements too long. We did have a shelter literally right across the street so red cross is here assisting them. Right now the investigators will try to determine the calls of the fire. Looks like it was in the upper areas, pretty significant damage. In fact when we arrived the fire was already through the roof. Again, that time of the morning we expect everybody to be in the apartments so we had to evacuate a a fortunately no serious injury. I believe the only injury thus far is to a Police Officer who has some little smoke inhalation. He was assisting with some of the evacuation. Reporter how many families are displaced this morning . Well, it looks like you know, this is like a u shape or lshaped building, you cant see it too much from here on the backside, the damage, the roof is that burned off so it looks like at least two buildings, maybe 12 apartments directly impacted by fire, smoke or water. Maybe the utilities, some other buildings so dozens of people likely will be displaced. Reporter when will they be able to return . Is there any indication on when . Well, were working through that right now. Obviously we use water to fight the fire. That turns to ice. Our equipment is frozen. You know its difficult for the residents to navigate all that right now. They are being assisted in the shelters. This is a condominium, so theyre privately owned but at this point dozens of people will be displaced and were working on the origin but pretty significant damage. C. Police were called to adrienne place just off ridge road in southeast. They were called out there thursday night to respond to a car fire. Police are still working to identify the suspect and also the victim and whoever is responsible for her death. The president is taking aim at the Daca Immigration Program and the u. S. Post office. The president said there will be no deal to protect thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation without funding to build a wall along the u. S. Mexican border. Democrats vowed to reach an agreement on immigration ahead of next months funding deadline. President trump took a swipe at the u. S. Post office calling them out for not charging amazon enough to deliver packages. The president went on to say the post office is getting dumber and your time now is 7 39. Associa21 so heres this next blast coming in. Starts coming in tonight, phils in tomorrow and its reinforced again tomorrow night noon new years day so a super cold new years day. Temperatures are in the 20s and ill just show you, too, new years eve its going to be cold. If youre going to be outside somewhere or youre plann bundle up. 19 degrees. A single digit feel with the wind chill factor simply because the winds are going to be gusting 15, maybe 20 miles an hour. Really cold. Same for new years day. Sunny skies but 25 is about the best were going to be able to do for a high. Still some snow from Anne Arrundel county over to the Eastern Shore. This is still some accumulating snow here. Winter weather advisory is still in place. Frederick county, carroll county, northern sections of baltimore county, too. That goes until noon today. So, a few flurries at 10 00 a. M. , 28. Breezy at 1 oclock, 30 will feel more like about 20 and then this afternoon we touch about 33 degrees or so by 4 oclock. I think well still have some flurries. Next wave of cold air starts coming in late this afternoon and that that means the wind chill factors later today will be in the lower 20s and tonight theyll be in the that, tomorrows High Temperature only 26 degrees and it will be blowing, too, tomorrow, so its going to feel like its in the Single Digits and the teens. Pretty much the same for the first day of the year as temperatures will only be in the middle 20s. The middle 20s for tuesday. When is this going to end . Its so cold. We wont think about it. Well just start drinking. It will end when spring gets here but right now were celebrating new years eve because it is tomorrow and youre going to want to celebrate when the big ball drop. We have low calorie cocktail options and the idea here is go have fun and here are your options, right. Exactly. I mean cause youre all about staying fit. Were going to definitely stay fit and we know youre going to drink so im not going to tell you not to. So, this is a better way to actually get your drink in but not. Get your drink on. Yeah,. A week so not every night but, one thing that i am very adamant about is knowing my calories, when i do drink so that even though im taking in something, im not ruining all my workouts for the week. Thats the goal. Okay, so what do we have here. All right. So, first of all we can start down the line. Okay. I like that. Are you a wine drinker. Yeah, i had a glass of wine last night. When were talking about wine you want to think about white wines and drier whites tend to have a little bit less calories. Because of sugar. Yes, because of sugar and we have right here make sure i say it right, triveri brut its a drier sparkling wine so that way for new years, popping bubbly, that way its less sugar, less calories. You can enjoy it and you wont be killing your workout, killing your is that what brut mea, yeah. When you go to the store thats was look for. Right. Brut is drier than dry. You see dry, brut is drier. Even drier so delicious. If you like sweet wines, thats not for you. For the other people if you are like a beer drinker, one misconception is that guinness feels heavy, right, its dark, its heavy, you feel like youre eating a sandwich but guiguinness is one of your lower calorie beers many people think that if im going to have a healthy beer i got have a light beer, something that tastes like water. Ultra. Ultra just slurp it down. But you can have like a real beer. Guinness is about 125 calories and because its like a heavier beer you probably wont drink as much. Its nitrogen in the way that youre like drinking it right. Exactly. Here comes the ice. Here we go. Break out the ice. That means were getting ready to make something. Were going make it happen. So, if youre like me, im one reason i like cocktails is you get your alcohol in, you get your best bang for your buck. You get a little bit more, you know, alcohol in with less calories. One thing that we can always do is infuse your h vodka. Did you see there yourself. Did you add that in there. Right we just poured a little out, put a little rosemary in. Ahead this morning, a fire and frigid temperatures. Firefighters work through the night to battle a massive blaze in Montgomery County. Weve got the latest details coming up. And a virginia couple brutally murdered in their home and today family and fries respects. And, yes, deep freeze, it is bone chilling cold outside and snow. We have snow outside. Of course those two bad combination for the roads this morning. The question is how much will you get and how the city is prepping for the bitter cold. Well have details on that straight ahead. It is 23 degrees. It is no joke out there. You cant do much with it. Its just a little dusty covering for most of us, a little bit more on the roads and streets and cars and whatnot. You have to get most of your snowball snow off the cars i think because it would be hard to get this limited amount off the grass. Listen, heres whats going on out there right now. We still have at least a chance for a little bit of light snow coming on across technically speaking we still have a few counties under this Winter Weather advisory. This is going to go until noon today. This is for Frederick County, this is for carroll county, northern parts of baltimore county, hartford county. Most of the accumulation is up into southern pennsylvania. Thats where i think they could see snowfall amounts before this is all said and done approaching 2inches. Most, if not all of the locations right around here are generally half an inch or below. Reagan National Less than a half an inch,. 2 of an inch of snow, thats not much. Franconia is little bit more than that. Dulles almost a half an inch of snow. Annapolis little less than a half an inch. Fairfax right at a half an inch. American university a little bit below a half an inch. Sso, i t im telling you its a little bit but its going a long way with these cold temperatures t how much more do we get, how cold is it going to be . Its going to be really cold, 2017, first day of 2018 more arctic air. Ill have that coming up. Erin. Breaking news from overnight. While you were sleeping firefighters in Montgomery County worked to battle a massive fire in gaithersburg and we are told at one point several people were trapped inside the building. Fox5s tisha lewis live on the scene with the very latest and tisha i know youve been talking with people all morning. Sounds like it could have been a lot worse. Reporter yeah, it could have been a lot worse, annie and this is really the best Case Scenario for what was really an out of control situation. What i can tell you is that not only were firefighters battling this fire, working hard to put it out, but they were also battling the elements. Its freezing outside. Theres snow on the ground. So, the water was quickly turning to ice. Now, you can see behind me its still an active scene. Firefighters are still monitoring the situation. There are still hot spots that they are just taking a look at, making sure everything is under this is the potomac oakes Condominium Development here in gaithersburg. The fire broke out around 4 45 this morning. There are about a dozen families that are displaced. Were told that families in this building were a wake concerned to door knocks and banging telling them to quickly evacuate. Again, this is all here on quincy Orchard Boulevard. This is the 880 Apartment Building. It is a Condominium Development. Were told hundreds of firefighters responded. Thankfully there were no injuries to report this morning, even though a Police Officer was treated for smoke inhalation. For the most part there are no injuries to report. Now, families that were displaced from this fire were taken to Brown StationElementary School which is literally within walking distance. Its across the street. There theyre receiving some shelter and also some aid. We did have a moment to with Fernando Reyes who lives in this building and is one of the displaced. It was 5 00 in the morning i just hear a banging on the door and theyre just screaming fire. And then i thought it was gunshots for a second cause there was the bang the banging was so hard i thought it was gunshots and then i didnt want to run to the door if it was gunshots but then my uncle went and opened the door and i heard screaming get out and we come out and the two buildings are it was a fire and we were just waiting to see what happens and then they go into the buildings and i dont know what the cause of the fire was or whats going on. Reporter reyes is just one of, again, a dozen families that are displaced right now. Firefighters are still on the scene just monitoring those hot spots. Theyre also trying to investigate the cause of the fire. They dont know just yet but it does appear that it happened somewhere on the top floor. Firefighters telling us that when t roof was taken off by this fire, so, again, theyre trying to do some digging and investigate exactly what caused the flames. Tisha lewis, fox5 local news. Were also monitoring some breaking news out of california. A female officer is in the hospital this morning after being shot in an ambushstyle attack. It happened in los angeles overnight just before 1 00 a. M. The officer was hit with a bullet in the thigh. She is now in stable condition so that is good news. Promising news. And police have arrested one person in connection with the shooting and are now searching for more suspects. Time now is it 8 06. Happening today, family and friends will pay their final respects to scott and buckley fricker. A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church in herndon, virginia this morning at 10 oclock. The two were brutally murdered inside their reston home last week. Police say their daughters teenaged boyfriend shot and killed them both and then turned the gun on himself. The teen suspect is now in the hospital with lifethreatening injuries and hes charged with their investigators say the suspect had neonazi views and scott and buckley were murdered after they tried to get their daughter to break up with him. And new this morning out of Prince William county, a Police Officer is in the hospital after a driver attacked the officer during a traffic stop. It happened around 8 oclock last night near princess ann lane and west long view drive in woodbridge. Police say two passengers ran away and officers arrested the driver. The injured officer was airlifted to the hospital and were told he is expected to recover. Now to a developing story out of northern virginia. Questions still swirling around a home in sterling this morning after more than a dozen fbi agents spent hours raiding the place. It happened yesterday. The neighbors say the Townhome Community is normally a quiet area and then yesterday they heard the loud bangs when fbi agents busted down the front door. Its pretty quiet. Its not a bad neighborhood. Its im not quite sure what to im just very curious at this point. Federal agents spent several hours in the neighborhood carrying out multiple boxes. Fox5 still working to learn more about the investigation and about the person who lives in that home. The Trump Administration meanwhile has fired all members of the hiv aids Advisory Council. This comes months after half a dozen members resigned in protest of the Trump Administrations position on health policies. The white house dismissed the rest of them this week through a letter and the council was that founded back in 1995 to offer recommendations on the National Hiv Aids strategy. And now to a fox5 update. The makeup of the Virginia House of delegates will not be determined until next year. The state board of elections will meet thursday to decide the winner of the 94th district in newport news. Democratic candidate Shelley Simmonds has challenged the vote count in court after a previously discarded ballot was counted to tie the race. She believes she beat out david yancy by one vote. Life looks good. A follow up. A deadly car crash in Charles County that killed three people. Investigators have identified another victim as gonzi Kenneth Dyson jr. Dyson was a passenger in the vehicle. The crash happened back on december 26 along rosehill road in la plata. Cell phone video captured the moments right after the car hit a tree and caught on fire. The driver Eric Lamont Moss died at the hospital the third victim hasnt been identified. New details in Apartment Building fire in the bronx in new york city. The flames killed 12 people including four children on thursday. The fire commissioner says it was started by a child who was playing with a kitchen stove. The boys mother heard him scream, saw the flames and ran outside with him along with his sister. Front door of her apartment opened and the stairwell acted like a chimney which caused the fire to spread faster. Many people are still in the hospital this morning or without a home. And for those who plan to brave the cold and ring in the new year in times square you can expect some super tight security. Aircrafts will monitor the event from above and you have bomb sniffing dogs, theyll be at work on the ground. There will also be more Police Officers in hotels and Office Towers overlooking times square. Meanwhile in las vegas they have tripled the Security Budget and they have more than doubled the number of National Guard troops. This year along with those spotters they will be accompanied by snipers, individuals in possession of rifles to ensure safety if a threat is recognized. Nypd says they are aware of an isis propaganda video released earlier this weaken couraging followers to attack intoxicated new years eve revelers but they say there is no specific credible threat. Comes the new years day hangover. And while there is no sure fire cure available, doctors have some suggestions on how to beat that horrible hangover. Well take it, right . Starting with eat before you drink. They say a meal with high levels of protein and fat will slow down the effects of alcohol. And they also say be cautious of darker alcohols such as red wine and whiskey because the chemicals in those drinks, well, they are more hangover prone and they also suggest alternating every drink with gatorade or powerade to help pace yourself and restore your electrolyte levels and then when you get home, they say, take that pain killer. Listen, the first january 7th of last year, kind of an arctic air come down so that would have been probably when it was. W d temperatures. It wasnt four. We didnt have anything officially at four. You got to be skeptical of those bank thermometers. Im telling you right now. Theyre just not the real deal, all right its not the 70s anymore by the way. Listen, heres the coldest new years of date. Well be super cold this new years day at 25. Thats the going forecast. You got to go back to 1900 when it was 24 degrees, 1940 when it was 25 degrees and 1963 when it was 27. Well probably be right in there. But look at some of these in the 1800s look how cold a high of 19, 1881 a high of 19. Record low was minus 14 and that goes all the way back to 1881. Theyve been keeping records for a long time. 23 in the city. Thank goodness its not that cold, not minus 14. uthat would be brutal. Another arctic blast coming our way. Well get a little reinforcement here and by the first, were only going to be in the 20s. Well go for a High Temperature, forecast High Temperature on new year of 25 degrees again, one of the coldest weve around here. 19 for new years eve. Bundle up if youre going to be outside. Very cold. And it will be a single digit feel because the wind is going to be blowing. The wind chill factors are going to be in the Single Digits and the low teens. 25 degrees on new years day. Very, very cold. It will still be a little bit breezy on new years day so we wont feel like 25. Well feel like were in the teens pretty much all day long. A few flurries light snow showers to the north. Over to the east a little bit more. Anne arrundel county jump over the bay to Eastern Shore and they still have some snow flurries an little bit of light snow there as well. This will all be coming to an end later on this afternoon. As a matter of fact i think this morning theres still a chance for some flurries around. This afternoon well be breezy, arctic air comes back in this afternoon. There will be a few more snow showers and a few more flurries as that cold air comes in. Shouldnt see any additional accumulation, though. High temperature today will only be in the mid 30s burt with the wind kicking up, especially this afternoon, it is not going to feel like that and this second wave of arctic air builds through, so were 26 degrees for a high tomorrow. And it will be breezy tomorrow so it will feel like its only in the teens. The same goes for july july Wishful Thinking the same goes for january 1st, new years day, 25 for a high. Were going to stay in the 20s for the second day of january and then well get into the 30s, yeah, nice little warmup on wednesday, right, 35 and then here comes another arctic air mass the latter part of the week so brutally cold, brutally cold. Yeah and the kids go back to school after this break. I feel bad for them waiting at the bus stop in these temperatures. But all the parents are sick of them being home. They got to go. I think theres a lot of people in this country that want things to go in a different way and so i would just say to make sure that theyre paying attention to the people. I agree with that. Andrea evans and gabriel jordan are here to tell us about the mini entrepreneur trend. This is a big thing thats exploded over the last few years, right. Right. Children have been encouraged by their parents, theyre watching shark tank, theyre feeling inspired, so theyre mini moguls. Is it hard to do, take an idea and then make it something that becomes a business and even a career . Well, i dont think its hard. I think the hard thing is implementing that idea, protecting it. Im an intellectual property attorney so i like to tell them to patent their material. Lets start with gabriel here. Years ago you came up with an idea and you have been able to groom that and make it your thing now. You are a mini mogul. Yeah. How old are you. Im 17 now. When did it startor wow. Okay. All right. Yes. So you could teach a lot of people how to do stuff. And that really was kind of the idea behind what ive taken my business to be at this point. I started with jewelry, right, and as i went through this, like i kind of learned so much, more than i really expected a lot of ups and downs and figuring out, you know, leadership skills and things i dont think i would have learned without it. And because of that, i decided that i wanted to start a mentoring institute a place where young people could come and learn about entrepreneurship. Good for you. And start businesses themselves and learn, you know, how how do they patent how do they copyright how do they protect their brand as well. I know we dont have a lot of time but where do you start when your child says i have this great idea. First thing encourage them. Do research. Go to free tools like google. Com to research the name. One of the biggest mistakes is children start a business have good names but theyre not very strong names so the worst thing that could happen is you dont seek the help of an and have to change the name because someone else is using the name. So definitely do your research and schedule a consultation to determine your options. I would imagine that being persistent is a pretty big skill. For sure. I think discipline persistence and just being able to be you know, being able to go top people and ask for help and figure out what needs to be done. How do you overcome a setback because ive had a little bit of entrepreneurial endeavor as well and theres constantly setback but you really grow from that dont you. Thats definitely the point. I think those setbacks are really what push you forward. You learn from. You think when youre i think the only point when youre really learning is when youre failing and so definitely like being in business its been a constant up and down and i think its really about taking in those moments where failures are happening and not letting it be like the end all be all and just learning from notice mistakes. And you did go through all this firsthand. Give us one example, one of the biggest mistakes that you made that you really learned a big i definitely would say its about hiring kind of the right people and knowing who is on your team. I definitely had mistakes when it came to having the right people on the team to really help and build my business. And i think its important like having someone like miss andrea where she is a shes she knows what shes doing, right. And so its important to have people that know what theyre doing and to really be able to have confidence in someone so that they can really help you to grow your business as much as you want to grow your own. So, are you a young woman right now. You have many, many years ahead of you. Do you have this growing, do you want to start something new . Whats the next step for you. Northern sections of of Frederick County, thurmont a little over an inch. Thats about the most ive seen coming in so far, bowie is a little less than a half an inch, mount vernon right at half an inch, reagan and franconia virginia, dulles all under a half an inch. Annapolis under a half an inch. Fairfax up to a half an inch and American University a little bit less than a half an inch. Thats most of what weve been seeing out there. Just a fast pass of snow during the overnight hours. So, another arctic air mass shot is coming our way. You can see the snow thats still flying, northern Frederick County getting a little bit more. If theres 2inches in maryland, it would be northern Frederick County, maybe northern Washington County and over towards northern carroll county, too, and this seems to be the last significant the Eastern Shore, Bigger Picture shows the entire area of low pressure kind of scoscooting off to the east. There is a little bit more enhancement back out to the west and northwest. You can see it right here. This little area of arctic air, the reinforcing arctic air starts coming in later today, tonight and it will be with us for the first several days of 2018. And then more arctic air comes the week. Heres the snow again in motion just the light stuff up to the north and to the west. Heres the deal on the forecast for today. I still think some flurries or light snow showers even at 10 00 a. M. Breezy by 1 oclock. A little bit of sunshine poking through but not much. Temperatures at their peak today will get up into the mid 30s but by later on this afternoon, we start picking up the wind a bit. The winds will start gusting over 20 miles per hour, so 35 degrees is going to feel more like about 25 degrees and then look how cold we get and look how cold we stay. 26 tomorrow. Gusty, too. 25 on monday, first day of the year, 25, wow, thats a real cold start for 2018. It doesnt warm up much. Time now is 8 33. Still following that breaking news out of Montgomery County this morning. A massive fire ripped a building in gaithersburg overnight. Firefighters have been working to battle those flames in frigid temperatures and snowy conditions. Fox5s tisha lewis is live on the scene with the very latest and tisha, how is it looking now . Reporter well, so far so good annie. What i can tell you is that we have learned some new information. Appears this fire started in the attic, may have burned for quite some time undetected. A resident returned home to the potomac oakes Condominium Development behind me and sensed that something was wrong, maybe he smelled something, maybe he saw some smoke and were told that that resident placed the first call to firefighters but there was not really a strong sense or sign that there was a fire, just something was off. Well, obviously it turns out there was a fire. Again, were told it was burning for quite some time in the attic, though the exact cause of the fire is under investigation. Now, all of this unfolded here in this Condominium Development here gaithersburg. Were told that a dozen families are displaced. Hundreds of firefighters responded. Not only did they have to battle the fire but they also had to battle the elements. Its freezing outside. Theres snow outside. So, the water quickly turned to ice. We did get a chance to speak with several residents, many who were awake concerned in the wee hours of the morning to banging on their doors. It was 5 00 in the morning. I just hear banging on the door and theyre just screaming fire. And then i thought it was gunshots for a second cause it was the bang the banging was so hard i thought it was gunshots. Then i didnt want to run to the door if it was gunshots. Then my uncle went and opened the door and they were screaming get out and then we come out and its two buildings is on fire and we were just waiting to see what happened and then they go into the buildings and i dont know i dont know what the cause of the fire was or whats going on. Families were taken to Brown StationElementary School. It is literally within walking distance from quincy Orchard Boulevard where we are right now. Its across the street. There theyre receiving aid from the american red cross, also warmth and shelter and definitely some support during this trying time. Again, all of this unfolded early this morning and the goal was to get everyone out safely and firefighters were able to do that. So, thankfully no serious injuries to report this morning, though we are told that there is one Police Officer who was treated for smoke inhalation. Tisha lewis, fox5 local news. Time now is 8 36. We are learning more about the man shot and killed along 295 on thursday. Police say 27yearold armani coles worked at a d. C. Elementary school and this morning his mother is pleading for answers. Coles worked as a custodian at powell Elementary School in d. C. He was also a father to an eightyearold coles mother amber says he loved his son dearly and was a great father. He was great with kids. Shes now begging his killer to turn himself in to police. Whoever did this to my son, that murdered my son, just come forward. I forgive you. I forgive you. Just come forward and bring closure to my home. She also asked for anyone with information to please bring it to police. You can stay anonymous. Just call 1866411 tips. And we are also following the investigation into the apparent murder of a woman in southeast d. C. Police were called to adrienne place thats just off ridge road thursday night to respond to a car fire. Now, once the fire was put out, officers discovered a womans body in the trunk. The president said there will be no deal to protect thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation without funding to build a wall along the u. S. Mexican border. Westminster 19 ntown were 23. Feels like its in the teens for a lot of locations. Today, look, were only going to warm up, 35 in town, gaithersburg 33. Frederick maybe gets up to 34. Down to the south we could touch 40 before the next shot of cold air comes in. The next shot of arctic air, all right, and it starts coming in so as we ring in the new year, it is going to stay as a matter of fact, this will be one of the coldest new years weve had basically in decades. I went back and looked and so you got to go way back into the 60s to have one this cold, all right. So, happy new year. New years eve 19 degrees. Bundle up if youre going to be outside and the wind chill factor, the feelslike temperature will be in the Single Digits, okay. So, very, very cold out there for new years eve. And the story doesnt get much better for new years day. 25 degrees. It will still be breezy. So its going to feel like its in the Single Digits in the teens. Even with sunshine on new years day and the sevenday forecast which ill show you in just a second, it doesnt get much better cause we stay in the 20s and, well, ill show you coming up. Heres still some light snow falling up here. So, where theyve picked up an inch or more north of 70 in Frederick County, theyll probably get a little bit more than that. I still think where they could get up to 2inches would be Northern Maryland, up into southern sections of pennsylvania, okay. And then we do still have a few snow showers over on the Eastern Shore, but continues to move off to the east and northeast. This little clipper system kind of racing it on. It found enough moisture to kind of half an inch to an inch for us and theres a little bit more enhancement back out to the west. Well watch that. Futurecast thinks, e, thats no big deal. Never is going to be a big deal. This evening well have some mix of clouds and sun. Next wave of arctic air comes down, more lake effect snow here. They could probably pick up another foot of snow before its all said and done in the lee of lake erie. Tomorrow were all dry. Well have some clouds but very, very cold temperatures and the winds will be blowing as well. This is 9 00 a. M. New years day. Were dry but were cold. More of lake effect snow on new years day for lake erie. They could pick up another six to 8inches on that day so if they got 63inches in some places, maybe they end up by monday or tuesday with another 20inches on top of that. Wow. How would that be . Walk around the house find stuff and make it pretty. Thats right. And then get some greenery. You guys remember last time im always talking about bringing earth in. The natural. The natural. Im tucking these little guys in, im tucking them in here. And it makes it extra. Giving it some life. We want to be extra in life. Of course. Extra. And then always silver when youre thinking about decor for new years we always want bling and bling is silver. Right. Its as simple as that. Nothing too expensive there. No, no. What im doing first is im pulling offer my tree any of my little gold bulbs or silver bulbs that we have putting them in a bowl stick something greenery, i got these last night at my area supermarket, you can get them wherever. I think like 99 cents. Theyre on sale. Exactly. I put them in a little save your money cause you want to put it into the bubbly right. Thats right. Well end with the bubbly. Kick it up a notch. Thats right. Im decorating my tabling okay. Ill come back to that. A lot of us have children and some of us are not going to go out tomorrow. But you can still make it special. I dont have childcare. Still make it special. This is totally not my idea i saw this on pinterest which is amazing but here i have these little glasses for the children. I put a little bit of glitter on them, okay. On the outside. On the outside of course. Thank you. With my little modge podge which is elmers glue and i made them a fancy champagne glasses. Right. Inside i have some cranberries and then just to dresses up my table again i have some cranberry juice orange juice a little bit of seltzer water mix those little guys together they have their little champagne drink and they can add right over here im sorry to reach they can add a little bit of the cranberry or raspberry to make their own little drink. Another way to use modge podge. Thats right. I love that. Not everybody is going to stay up u can do these for the kids. And put them to bed. And then we can end with our own celebration. Festivities. Festivities. Before we get to the last bit i want to talk about scents. Whenever youre doing something at your home youre decorating or youre having family over,. Smells good. Exactly. You want to not only make the place look nice, you want to look nice, have all your nice gear on but you also want to have the place smell nice. Right. I love the nest candles sewn i put this together. We did this in a number of homes that we decorated this holiday. I have this beautiful candle. Its going to last like three years. Smells beautiful, smells christmas, smells holiday. Whats a good scent thats safe for everybody like that vanilla smell. You know, its always tricky because scents are very particular. Were all very sensitive so people do have allergies. I think a vanilla is probably nice and mild. Its not my scent. I like the strong spicy ones. But vanilla is always now theres always sort of your diffusers t theyre a little bit more on the pricey end but you can open and close them and they can kind of,. I like the smell of fresh laundry. Maybe ill throw a load of laundry in. Downey. That smell gets me. Maybe you dont do that. The last thing i want to do and annie was talking about Tax Deductions and so forth. I love my local goodwill. I went in the other day and i bought this silver you didnt. Oh, yes, she did.
