Pat . Harpart of richmond southbou has been closed this afternoon after a motorcycli was taken to the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to be okay. Turning now to politics. As we go inside the arch center in miami. Were going there for night wo of the first democratic debate and more candidates tonight, this time a round featuring several more of the frontrunners including former Vice President joe biden. One of the major top nicks last nights deba immigration, and today candidates once again tried to bring attention to that issue. Lets go inside the hall now with news 4s aaron gilchrist. Aaron, quite a night last night and weve got more to look forward to tonight. Reporter for sure. We saw a heated debate here last night in miami. Expect more of thesame, erhaps even more from the candidates on the stage. The leaders of the pack, as you mentioned, of course, and then well have some of the virtual unknowns on the stage and everybody in between. Its already been a busy day here in mime. Weve seen the candidates out gionabout and around this r of florida today. We saw several candidates from last nights debate make their way to homestead, florida, all trying to draw attention to the Migrant Detention Center and for the humane treatment of migranti and for p change as well. Onator Bernie Sanders am the visitors today to that dention center. He climbed the ladder there and waved to children on the other sidef the fencing there. This is this issue of migrant children, this issue of immation, obviously was big last night, and it learn will come up again tonight. So lets take a look at fourth gs to watch for tonight. The nbc political unit has been working on this for us. Thes the title matchup, right, between the former Vice President joe biden and senator Bernie Sanders. The poll leaders, the party elders, if you will, the moderates versus the democratic socialist. The second thing to lack out for, Kamala Harris and pete buttigieg. They are in good position on stage and they both need to make a good mark, maybe possibly away some of the attention from biden and sanders. Third, will there be any other breakthrough moments tonight from some of the other people who aren the stage . Obviously well have seasoned politicians who will be on the stage tonight and then there are the wild cards that we mentioned, andrew yang, Marianne Williamson can, they do something tonight to advance their cause, and then theres question about experience. Will that matter tonight in terms of in the way that t did last night in, terms of who can try to take the spotlight and to really make that work for them. Youre going have a striking contrast between, for example, joe biden on the one hand and maybe somebody like indiana mayor, south bend mayor pete o buttigiegn the other, somebodyy who ing, this millenial mayor, showing he can drive prress and be the fresh facesh of the party. Reporter and so that is tonights the setup for tonight. Well be watching closely, of course, and we also had an opportunity to talk to many soft voters here in miami who watched last night and who will be watching again tonight. Hopefully at 5 00 well be able to share some of hat they had to say with you. All right. Should be another interesting night there in miami. Looking forward to it. Thank you, aaron. Thanks, aaron. And we invite you to stay with us throughout this afternoon and evening for complete debate coverage. Still ahead, lookat the issues say that voters do and dont want to hear more about, and, urse, you can watch the debate right here on nbc 4 9 00 tonight. All right. Maryland governor larry hogan called the ruling terribly disappointing, and says hell keep pushing for reforms n. Amelia draper is here now look at the Science Behind this trend. Amelia . Well, Climate Central coming out with new numbers today, and these numbers showing that our above normal days for the summer months are going up. Since 1970 the district has seen increase in above normal days as far as temperatures go by almost two weeks. Weve seen the number go up to almost 12 days, an increase where wtu see temperaes running above normal. This has big implications on your heal and also the money that youre spending to cool your home. It means theres a greaterisk for heat exhaustion. Our air quality today is considered poor, and that will likely be the case tomorrow as well, and we also see then a greater risk for diseasecarrying insects. It costs more to air condition your homes with the warmer temperatures, so what actions need to be taken to see our temperatures cool back down to more normal levels . We gneed moreen infrastructure and to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions. Today is day three of a potentially 12day long heat wave. Well continue to track isolated showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. The main threats being heavy rain andil potentially h as well. I also cant rule out strong wind gusts with these storms. Heres a look at the bigger picture. M you can seet of us are mainly dry and where the storms have developed with the high at and increased levels of humidity, they a really utcking a punch. About 91 up in fre rick, and the heat index in quantico right now coming in at 100 degrees, so when we get this kind of heata nd stagnant air we likely see our our air quality go down, and it is poor today and will likely be poor out there tomorrow, and as we take a look your fourday forecast and tenday forecast in the 5 00 hour, its all about the 90s into the weekend.
