And i think, you know, at the time obviously this is late 1800s, so were dealing with a a lot more issues, especially being a woman of color, black woman at the time. And so she ends up falling in love with zac efrons character, and its a forbidden love, its not supposed to happen. Its not allowed. Its frowned upon. And i think that theres something very beautiful about that, because its to me, a a silent love story. Because theyre not supposed to be seen, touch, or anything like that. So any moment when theyre looking at each other or they just get to they just touch a little bitu becomes almost special to the audience and to the characters. And it was really it was really nice for me to play, because i feel like theres so many relevant themes in the movie. And i think for me, you know, when it came down to these characters, were still dealing with those issues, you know . Were still dealing in time where people want to tell people who they can love. You know, and so to me, it was a nice thing to share and im lucky to be part of it, yeah. Jimmy you did a great job. Let alone be on a trapeze. Have you what was the Training Like . I mean i mean okay, so my our director called me, and he said, you know, listen jimmy he was great, by the way. So amazing. Jimmy and that i dont know this director. So talented. Michael gracey. Jimmy yeah. So amazing. He is going to be huge. Jimmy yeah, hes good. But he called and he said, listen, we want to workshop this like a real broadway production. Im like, cool, thats great. Then hes like, also, you might want to start working out, because, um [ light laughter ] you have trapeze rehearsal when you get here, and i want to use the stunt double as little as possible. [ laughter ] so i was like, okay. So strength, which i dont have and have not maintained either. [ laughter ] so dont ask me to do any trapeze because its not going to i dont have it anymore. [ light laughter ] jimmy that was a different time. Different time. It was a different time. But it was a lot of training, a a lot of just literally getting up there and just going for it. I remember i had been rehearsing on this specific rig that i was used to. You know, i had become normal with that height difference. And there was a net, and i felt good and comfortable, and i had been doing it for a while. And i was like, okay, cool. Like, im a trapeze artist now. This is great. And i show up on set, and yeah, the rig was like 15 to 20 feet taller. And there was no net. [ light laughter ] jimmy what . No net. Jimmy oh, no. Because back in the day they didnt have those yet. So i was hooked up, so im safe, but jimmy still visually, thats a little thats a lot to get over. You know . Jimmy oh, yeah, yeah. I would say, hey, guys, its called cgi. Look it up. Right. [ laughter ] jimmy check out this get this net right now. Well zap it out later, man. Air brush it out. I dont care what you gotta do. Shoot around it. I need two nets, in fact. Yeah. [ laughter ] right, tight. That was my thought process. And then its right as i was going to go up, right, in the cherry pickers to go up to the thing. And hugh jackman walked by, and he goes, zendaya. Youre bad ass. And i was like, take me up. [ laughter and applause ] jimmy take me up i can do anything i can do anything. Hugh jackman just called me a bad ass. Jimmy hugh jackman told me im a bad ass . Thats all i need to hear, man. You and zac efron, we were saying earlier, great chemistry. You guys look like you a a great team. Like, you could actually go take this on the road, you can actually be in the circus. But, no, it was great. You know, zac was such a great partner. We really had to, like one of our first kind of getting to know each other sessions was like, okay, here you go you know, youre harnessed together, get up there. And so we really had to quite literally trust each other, because he had to hold my weight, and i had to hold him. You know . So it was just kind of like a a great ice breaker. Jimmy yeah, it was, yeah. Jimmy thats the way guys, if you want a good first date, just join a circus. [ laughter ] and just think about getting the trapeze together, see if it will all work out. Yeah. But you were saying those takes where so theres just its gravity. So i mean i mean, yeah. So theres this specific, like, thing we do where, basically, were holding our own weight, so theres no harnesses in this one, unfortunately. Were holding these two ropes, and we are together, and we swing apart from each other. They lift us off the ground. And of course, that momentum has us swinging as far as we can go away from each other. We come back together. And you know, were supposed to grab onto each other with the other arm, and begin like this swing. Which is in all the posters and its beautiful, and thats great. Thank you for being such a good sport. Well jimmy and playing charades, and just having a really fun time. Yeah, thank you, jimmy, for having me on the show to have such a fun time. [ laughter ] i have a problem with competition. Jimmy you do . Yeah, i get an attitude if i lose. I grew up with two brothers and so then any time theres something competitive thats happening, theres a switch goes off in me. If i dont at least not lose, that is to say, i dont have to win thats not true, i have to win. [ laughter ] i take that back completely. Jimmy yeah, exactly. I have i get like a a seething rage. Oh, yeah, the way that im seeing you right now is filtered through [ light laughter ] and i let my partner down too. Im still thinking about what i should have done with crocodile rock. [ audience aws ] i will say, at least, you know, you had a very good team. And we i let us down. Tariq no, man jimmy no, this is what he does. He gets in your head. Thats why hes a good actor. You show up at these well, i mean, there are celebrities, you know, and then i end up having to explain to the people that im paired with why i should be considered a a celebrity. [ laughter ] well, you know, well show up, and everybody will be going to their carts, and this is, you know, to benefit a worthy cause. And Roger Clemens will be over there with somebody, or you know, derek jeter will be with another one. And then i show up to guys who im playing with, and im like, hey, im billy crudup, im your celebrity. And inevitably, theyre like, no, youre not. [ laughter ] and then theyll be like, no, i paid five grand for cc sabathia. Theres no way. [ laughter ] Jimmy Michael jordan, yeah. No, it will be fine. Are you a fan of the theater . [ laughter ] that can take a firm no. Jimmy yeah, silence. Well what movies have you been in . Well ive been in a lot of movies. Ive been acting for like 20 years. You know, name your movies. Almost famous, did you see that . Yeah, i saw that. Who were you . I was the guy who played the rock. You know, so oh yeah, you kinda look like his grandfather. [ laughter ] jimmy oh, my god. Like, im going to do this its like a roast. Jimmy no, and you have to go down but then i get then i get super competitive. I birdie a couple of holes and they shut up, or i tell you might know this. There are some things money cant buy. For everything else, theres master card. So this is and i really appreciate you having me on when youre promoting the greatest showman, as well because i i dont know. I cant really live up to that. Its just me, you know, on stage. Jimmy i disagree, i think that you are the greatest showman. I think youre fantastic. Ive seen [ cheers and applause ] ive seen you on stage and screen. Come on. Jimmy and both you shine on both. This is a really, really, interesting play thats being done at the vineyard theat which is a great off broadway theater in new york. Please come and support it. Theyve been doing phenomenal work for a long time. And it was a place that i first did theater in new york. I was completely nude for just over 200 a week. [ laughter ] yeah, so if you missed that, come back and see this when i play its a david cale play, directed by a woman named lee silverman. And it tells the story of this guy who went through this period of his life where he started to take on an alter ego. And he created a whole bunch of wreckage. And so i play all of the characters, and tell you the story. And its only an hour and 20 minutes. Jimmy thats all you need. Thats all you want. [ applause ] i mean, thats it. You get in. Yeah, so i was i did a a movie called whered you go, bernadette, that Richard Linklater directed with cate blanchett. And part of it takes place in antarctica. And so we went to greenland to shoot part of the scenes that involve icebergs and things like that. And its harder to get to antarctica than it is to greenland, so. But about five days into the shoot the captain said, okay, were gonna have to cut the shoot short, because theres a a storm thats rolling in, and we need to get out of here before the storm hits us. And so we got out of there, but then the storm caught up to us. Jimmy this is real footage. You on top of is it like vessel that is now has been decommissioned by them, so its hired by people who go on expeditions to the arctic and antarctica. And so you have the hope that the ship will be able to hold up. So we went up to the top to watch. Jimmy you were at the top. Took a video of this. Someone took a video of this. Watch this.
