If you are an artist, doesnt have to be just a boring essay, make it fun. Reporter nbc news, commerce, texas. Take a look folks, this is georgia washington distill eery at mt. Vernon, celebrating 10th anniversary. And in 2017 doesnt look much difference when our first president started it. The master distiller for the washington distillery is here now with more on the and the products still produced today. Good morning. Lets start with a History Lesson about distillery and how it got started. Last commercial business of washington life. So right after he presidency he hires scottish farm manager which led to construction of large distillery in 1778. And you are still operating, still doing some of the same things that were happening from day one . We do. We do it traditionally. 18th century methods which is unique. So we have props of how we do things. But we want to be traditional mt. Vernon and pure how we make it. Tell us how you make it. I know when people come for tours they would see some of this work happening. Yeah, they would see the water mill run. And basically whiskey had recipes, and he made rye, and that has to be fermented and starch to suggest ar, and yeast to do that. Then runs from to distill into your spirit. Tell us about it. This is unaged whiskey, thats how it was done in 18th center, this is the real spirit that he would have made. But if you age whiskey in wood barrels like this, you color and flavor from the wood, so we do sell aged whiskey as well. What would be the difference . You still sell this the way it was originally made. Whats the big difference . Taste . Impact . Taste and impact. This will bite you a little bit because its all grain. This is much mellower and nicer flavor. And you were telling me you brute a couple of other things with you here as well. Yes. The letter here i want to start with this is the letter that washington wrote to his relative to get more money for the distillery. And this was the funder for the project. So theyve been a huge partner. And in this distillery. In fact he made 11,000 gallons in one year. Business is good. But this is another artifact hard to bring it all in. But this is a mash rig to make it. And we do it that way today. Wow, thats amazing. And im new to whiskey just this year started drinking whiskey, what makes a good one other than aging process . I think its the flavor profile. Several things go into that, one is the quality of the grains. Secondly how well you ferment. Because you can lead to bad flavors. And aging long enough to give it a good profile. So if you take care of those three steps youll have a quality whiskey. I know people with still visit mt. Vernon. Distillery is closed for the season though. Can they buy vernon gift shop. Mansion is open. Thats when we make our products. Sounds good. Thank you for the History Lesson and sharing some of how whiskey works in mt. Vernon. That is the master distiller of George Washington distillery. I appreciate you coming in. Thanks a lot.
