A woman waiting for the bus on watkins mill road at travis lane is pulled into the woods and sexually assaulted. People who live nearby say they are scared. News 4s chris gordon has been following the story since it happened this morning. He joins us live now. Chris, what have you learned about this so afraid. We a whats happening live behind us in the it happe. Montgomery county detectives from the special victims unit have just arrived. They are canvassing the grounds. These woods behind the rideon bus stop where the assault occurred. Police tell us the victim of the attack is physically injured and traumatized. She was dragged from the bus stop into these woods where shes violently assaulted by a man who then runs off. Chopper 4 shows police launching their investigation shortly after the predawn attack here. Gaithersburg police and detectives from the Montgomery County special victims unit gathering clues, trying to identify the attacker. They are focusing on the bus stop and the large wooded area behind it. At about 5 30 this morning a wo face to face with danger. Our suspect approached her, acknowledged her presence at the bus stop and immediately grabbed her and pulled her into the wooded area where he sexually assaulted her. Reporter police say the attacker ran off. They describe them as a young man in his 20s wearing a dark checked shirt or jacket. The victim left the area seeking safety, calling police. They take her to a local hospital for treatment. Residents living along watkins mill road at travis lane are saying they are scared by this violent attack occurring so close to home. I am very worried because if it happened to someone else, the next time it may be me. Reporter dmitry runs every morning past the bus stop where the woman was attacked today. But ive never seen anyone suspicious. There are schools probably a mile, couple of miles from here, a lot of kids usually waiting for the bus. Probably a little bit later over there on that corner s never seen anything. It looks like a busy area to me. Im very surprised that it happened here. Reporter you are looking live at Montgomery CountyPolice Officers combing through the woods, looking for evidence. Now, police tell us that the suspect remains on the loose tonight and should be considered dangerous. Pat, back to you. Chris, so what are police asking people to do . What do they need the public to do . Reporter well, they are asking anyone who saw this bus stop at 5 30 this morning, 6 00 a. M. , to call them, to call Montgomery County police. If you saw a woman with a man, they want a description. They want to talk to you. So, they are looking for information that leads them to catching this suspect. All right. Chris gordon. Today the man charged with murdering Pamela Butler pleaded guilty to Second Degree murder. Jose Rodriguez Cruz now has to lead the family and investigators to her remains. You may remember butler disappeared back in 2009 from her northwest washington home. News 4s derrick ward has new details that came out in court just today and he has reaction from her family. We want to bring pam home and give her a proper burial. Reporter and for that, ending eight years of not knowing, the family of Pamela Butler is willing to go along with a deal. 51 year old jose Rodriguez Cruz admitted to murdering butler. He will serve 12 years in jail and five years probation provided he keeps up his end of the bargain. And most importantly now begin efforts to take us to the body. Reporter butler hasnt been seen or heard from from just before Rodriguez Cruz and butler argued on february 13th and he knocked her down and strangled her in the basement of her own home and he waited hours before lowering her body out of an upstairs window and putting her in his car and driving off. What he did with the body now remains to be revealed to the weary and grieving family. We could have done this eight years ago. Why do we have to go through it all this time . I cry every day. Ive been through a lot of stress, and i feel good today. I really feel good. He misled and he doesnt help, then were back where we started again. Reporter thats at that first degree murder charge. The deal would still hold if her body isnt found. Thats the goal, but 2009 was a long time ago. And terrain changes. Well see. Reporter at d. C. Superior court, derrick ward, news 4. First play by play of the planning that went into the shooting at the congressional baseball practice in june. Alexandria officials released a detailed report explaining just how the gunman went about preparing for that attack. Mark segraves with me in the newsroom has been going through that report. You looked through this. There is something that makes you go whoa. Word there could have been more dead if it hadnt been for a locked gate . They say that was by chance the gate happened to be locked. The report outlines the movements of the suspect 66yearold james hodge can i son in the moments leading up to the shooting as well as his movements on the baseball field as he opened fire. According to the report, James Hodgkinson had been scouting the baseball field where the republicans had their practice for months before the shooting. And he had video of the field on his cell phone. On the morning of the shooting, raj kin son opened fire on the group from along the third baseline behind a chain link fence. Throughout the entire exchange of gun fire, the suspect fired at least the report witnesses told investigators after he opened fire, the gunman tried to walk onto the ball field, but couldnt because the gate was locked by chance. The Commonwealth Attorney says that gate being locked likely saved lives. Stin ed of walking onto the field, hodgkinson walked behind the dugout and fired again. Thats where Police Ultimately pinned him down and shot him three times. First by Alexandria Police officeral kpan drer general sense. Then by Capital Police special agent david bailey. The purpose of this reports was to determine whether the shooting of the suspect by police was justifiable. The Commonwealth Attorney concluded that it was a justifiable shooting. Report also revealed that prior to the shooting, the suspect told his family that he didnt think that he had long to live. Im assuming that was i routine. There was no question going in that that shooting was not justifiable, was there . The tasked, he madeust assumed this would be the out come of it, but it was obviously a 40page detailed report we are learning a lot more information from. But he was required to do this. There was also an Ongoing Police internal investigation as there is after every shooting. Mark segraves, thanks for that reporting. One of the key figures involved in the shooting, congressman steve scalise, he was getting ready for another big moment of in his life tonight.
