It was yesterday around this time that we went live to Alison Parker and photo journalist adam ward. Reporter with a moment of silence marking the time her colleagues were murdered on live tv. And now it looks like the shooter may have been trying to run. According to documents obtained by nbc, the police searched vester lee flanagans car and found six magazines of am knic ammunition, 17 stamped letters and a wig. This kind of act although it is letters and a w. This kind of act although it is happening more often is so rare that being able to come up with a profile or understanding is quite difficult. He came to blows with a reporter in a live truck on a story. Reporter at a tallahassee station more than a decade earlie a similar story. He wanted to take it outside and i was stunned. Reporter wdbj fired flanagan two years ago and the police were called to escort him out. On the way out he handed a wooden cross to the news director and said youll need this. Reporter according to court documents, part of the altercation was recorded by adam ward. Flanagan insulted him and flipped the camera off. Reporter parker met flanagan when she interred at wdbj. Court documents reveal that while working there, flanagan accused her of making racist comments but a lawsuit he filed against the station alleging racism was thrown out by a judge last year. In the most violent of ways, flanagan made it clear that he never let it go. Law enforcement officials tell nbc news that flanagan legally purchased two glock handguns last month in virginia and that there was nothing in his record to disqualify him from making that purchase, including no indication that he was mentally unfit to own those guns. Lester . All right. Stephanie, thank you. The family of victim Alison Parker is left grasping for a way to carry on without her in their lives. Her father, you saw him a moment ago overcome with grief at the loss of his daughter. Hes vowing to keep her memory alive and today he made a highly emotional plea when he spoke to nbc news. My heart is broken. I can only take solice in the fact that she was 24, but she lived a great 24. She had the love of her life with chris hurst and she loved her family so much. [crying] and she was loved by everyone. My grief, its turned to anger because, you know, how many times are we going to see an incident like this happen . You know, new town, charleston, the movie theaters, you name it. Its got to stop. And im not going to stop until something happens because i dont want to see another alison tragedy like this again, and i know its not an exact science, but somebody has got to be able to identify hey, this guy has got some problems. Hes got some anger issues. He shouldnt be buying a gun. If there is a hell, i hope hes down there enjoying all the benefits. She was our bright shining star this guy extinguished. Thank you so much for waking up with me. I would always watch her stories in the morning, every single day we talked to her. She was a kind soul. A beautiful soul. Cnbcs sue herrera joins us now. Sue, are we now back on track . I think were certainly on much better footing, lester, for a couple reasons. China stepped in and bought an awful lot of its own stock market. That certainly helped. We got Economic News in the growth domeic product which is a broad measure of the economy. It was much better than expected and crude oil prices stopped plunging so the market felt much, much better about the u. S. It will be over puerto rico early tomorrow morning with 50 mile per hour winds and as it makes its way to the west, it will sort of weaken getting wind sheer and once it gets out past the bahamas it strengths by sunday at 2 00, 65 Miles Per Hour and hurricane by monday along the eastern florida coast. The cone of uncertainty, the width of this on day four is about 430 miles, by day five its the width of 510 miles. A wide swath has to be concerned about this and hugs the coast. The rainfall amounts, lester, over the next seven days could be upwards of a foot or more offshore, closer to shore, amounts anywhere from five to seven inches. Were going to continue to track this. The path of this storm makes florida and the entire southeastern Atlantic Coast really susceptible to some sort of landfall over the next several days. Well talk about this going into the middle of next week, lester. Al, thanks very much. Also in new orleans today, president obama marking the tenth anniversary of hurricane katrina. What joe biden would bring to the race with authenticity and the ability to connect with voters is something the American People are craving. Reporter this comes the day after biden on a Conference Call described his struggle in the wake of his son beaus death. If i were to announce to run i have to be able to commit to all of you that i would be able to give it my whole heart and my whole soul and right now both are pretty well banged up. Reporter but there are increasing signs democrats may be ready for biden. A new poll shows the Vice President s favorability at 48 , nine points higher than the 39 Hillary Clinton gets. Many democrats here are nervous about the clinton email controversy and if clinton goes on the offensive. Extreme views about women, we expect that from some terrorists groups. We expect that from people who dont want to live in the modern world, but its a little hard to take coming from republicans. Reporter republicans are responding aggressively issuing this statement today, for Hillary Clinton to equate her political opponents to terrorists is a new low for her flailing campaign. Watching it all, the Vice President with the knowledge if he shuts the door, he cant reopen it. This is what he lives for, you know, if joe biden decides not to run for president , thats the end of this remarkable career that this guy has had. Reporter Vice President biden met in washington today with Richard Trumka head of afl, cio and key to any democratic campaign. We had to check it out but at that point it did not look like we really had anything to work on until one of the state troopers up to me and said they heard some coughing in the wood line. Reporter the Team Immediately fanned out into the woods along with their fbi counter parts when one of counterparts of voss men spotted someone. He announced put your hands up. At that point, i break to the right of my team member to get the angle on the situation, and as i was making my way to the right, i could see an individual, the person was laying in what i could prone position on the stomach and he must have been having his head down because when i was coming up, i just saw this head coming up like this. I was so obscured by terrain of the woods there but when i came completely in the clearing, i noticed immediately there was a shotgun pointed at me and at that point i engaged the individual. Reporter he was facing you. Correct. Reporter and you could see the shotgun pointed in your direction . The suspect shot in the head but this combat veteran, a former army ranger did not know who he had just killed. We knew there were identifying marks on these two individuals and at some point my team member lifted his shirt up and found the identifying marks and knew we had richard matt and i called it in on the radio. Reporter a tattoo . Yes, it was a tattoo. Reporter do you remember what it said . Mexico forever. Reporter that was your guy. That was our guy. Reporter they learned matt a convicted killer fired shots at a passing rv earlier that day. No one was hit. You shot him, did it cross your mind it could have been the other way around . Absolutely. Reporter how did you deal with it at the end of the day . You know, its nothing we ever set out to do. Its never good when there is loss of life but at the end of the day, and ultimately richard matt gave me no other option by pointing a shotgun at me. After the killing of matt the Team Immediately pressed on for the search of matts fellow inmate david sweat. He was shot and wounded by a new york state trooper.
