Tonight Charles County sheriffs investigators are still here on the scene, gathering evidence. A web of yellow crime scene tape surrounds this block. It is shut down right now. And people cannot come inside. Officials tell us that this nineyear veteran feared for his life and was forced to fire. It happened right over there in the driveway, people tell me. His girlfriend tells me thats not true. The officer did not have to fire. The girlfriend admits, lets roll some video, that the suspect was intoxicated inside the waldorf house. It all started when they got in an argument. He and he broke it down. Her daughter called 911 for help. She says the boyfriend ran to the kitchen grabbed the knife, and then threatened to kill himself when Police Arrived at the house. When Police Showed up they say he was agitated and refused several demands to drop the knife. Investigators say he then moved towards one of the officers. That officer says he felt threatened and fired one shot at the suspect. Medicare lifted the man to a hospital. Police also told us he was assaulting his girlfriend before they arrived. But tonight we talked to her. She says he did not assault her, did not touch her, and he did not move towards the officer. He had both hands in the air like what . He had both hands in the air. Reporter was this a justified shooting . I dont think they had to shoot him, no. Reporter why not . Because he wasnt nowhere near them, and he wasnt even lurching towards them or anything. He was a threat to himself. Reporter she says the threat to himself. You can see Charles County Sheriffs Office officers right outside here. And as you can see, there are two counts of this story. C. Police just released a name of one of the people arrested on the George Washington University Campus this morning. An officer fired at two young men about 2 45 this morning while trying to stop a stolen car. Nobody was hurt. Police say the driver tried to ram a Police Cruise esch, and then two guys in the car tried to run. Officers arrested 19yearold Devon Holland for assault on a Police Officer and for a carjacking around 11 15 last night. The other suspects name will not be released because he is underaged. Developing tonight new booking documents out of texas show a woman found hanging in her jail cell told police she tried to kill herself in the past. The questionnaires from Sandra Blands arrest claims she attempted suicide after losing a baby. Sheriffs deputies insist bland was not having suicidal thoughts after her arrest. But there are some discrepancies in the documents about when bland attempted suicide. Earlier today blands family rejected claims that she had Mental Health issues, and said the dash cam video released last night proves bland was likely scared. When you tell me that youre going to light me up i feel extremely threatened and concerned. Im infuriated. And everybody else should be infuriated as well. The governor of texas said tonight the bland family deserves answers and its state troopers are working with the fbi. We asked the aclu of the nations capitol about that dash cam video were all seeing from texas. The director wouldnt comment on the bland case specifically. But he did say cooperation is key to make sure the situation doesnt escalate. Even if the officer is wrong in stopping you, its not to your advantage to get into an argument, get into a fight to run away to drive away. Cooperate with the officer. The aclu also recommends turning on your interior lights rolling down your windows halfway, and putting both hands on the Steering Wheel to allow the officer to do his or her job. Reporter thats the reaction this woman had when she came home and found her sliding glass door shattered. The house burglarized. Jewelry and other valuables gone. It was horrifying to see what lengths someone would go to get into someones house to take their belongings. Reporter when she got over the shock, she realized something looked out of place. This can of root beer sitting on the counter. The burglars drank it and left behind his dna. The dna led to this man, tyrone beam. He was charged in a string of burglaries in the rockville area. We count on criminals to make a false move, make a mistake. And they will be caught eventually. And that led to his downfall. Reporter bean had a unique mo. He would enter utility closets in an apartment building, cut a hole in the drywall, crawl into the apartment and ransack it. A judge sentenced him to ten years in prison after pleading guilty to burglary. Just is served. Reporter now according to these document, bean told investigators he didnt remember much about these crimes because of his drug use. He is currently serving time in Fairfax County on similar cases. Robert wilson has been charged with seconddegree murder and child neglect. The boy, jack garcia, was severely beaten for allegedly eating a piece of birthday cake without permission. He died later at the hospital. Garcias uncle and his mother, who was wilsons girlfriend are also charged with seconddegree murder, assault and reckless endangerment. The fbi wants you if you recognize this man to give them a call. This is the Wells Fargo Bank on pennsylvania avenue southeast near branch avenue. Police tell us the man walked in around 1 00 handed the tell area note saying he was armed and demanded money. After getting the cash, he took off on foot. D. C. Voters could get a chance to make their minimum wage among the highest in the country. The board of elections cleared the way today to put a 15 minimum wage on next years ballot. The measure would continue gradual increases in the districts minimum wage until the year 2020. D. C. s minimum wage right now is 10. 50 an hour. It will be 11. 50 starting next july. Supporters of the ballot measure will need 23000 signatures to get it on the ballot. More problems for d. C. s 911 response system. But a district official told news4 about a shortterm solution. A witness captured video after an attack on a female cyclist along the metropolitan branch trail last week. Police response was delayed because there was no mile marker to help the 911 dispatcher locate the victim. Now the head of d. C. Homeland security and Emergency Management says gps coordinates along that trail have been added to the 911 system. Its not a perfect solution. And so the perfect solution is to get as much information on the trail so people know where they are. And that really needs to be done today. Right now crews have shut down a major highway while firefighters try to get it under control. Smoke is visible from miles away, and some residents can see ash falling. The fire is quickly spreading near a popular hiking area, and rescue crews already had to save three hikers there. Jim . Dog in great falls, virginia survived what looks like an attack by a black bear. Check it out. Richard kelly says he came home tuesday night and found his dog blue bleeding. The 6yearold rescue dog had a half dozen wounds, including what appears to be a large claw mark on her left side. A vet says the wounds are consistent with a bear attack. I cannot have my children playing out here, shooting hoops running around my own front yard after dark until this problem is solved. With just a month to live, she wasnt ready to give up hope. Instead she found a treatment personalized just for her that doctors believe could be a cure. Do you have it . This is what it looks like. Reporter Christine Bray said she thought the sharp pain in her side was something simple, maybe appendicitis. But when doctors took a closer look, they diagnosised the 30yearold with Ovarian Cancer. I knew it was bad. It was one of the worst cancers that you can get. But thats about all i knew. Reporter that diagnosis was just the start of a roller coaster that bray and her family would face. When she was first diagnosed in 2010, she was at stage 1. Doctors told her she was lucky that surgery and chemotherapy should take care of it. But within a year shed had two more recurrences, and the cancer had become aggressive. They did not think i had more than one month of good quality life. And no one was expecting me to make it through the summer. Reporter when the cancer cells had attacked her liver, doctors were ready to give up. But christine wasnt. Have i two girls. I i have to be here for them. I want to be here for them. I have a husband i love. And i want to do whatever i can to be is there for them. Reporter looking for answers, christine travelled from her Virginia Home to philadelphia, where she met with dr. Justin chrra of Cancer Treatment stories of america. Thats where Genomic Testing came in for christine. We profiled her specific cancer to see what mutations the cancer might have to be able to target. Reporter its part of a new way to treat cancer called precision medicine. Rather than treating christines Ovarian Cancer the same way other patients are treated with the same disease doctors tested for specific genetic mutations in her tumors. Little clues that can help them figure out precisely which drugs will work. We now know that each persons Ovarian Cancer can be very different and very distinct because cancer arises from mutations in our dna. We all have different dna. So therefore its the potential that our cancers are going to be different as well. Reporter sure enough, the doctors found something significant. The dna profile in her tumor matched up with a Kidney Cancer drug, a pill that she could take once a day. And her next scan showed the tumors were shrinking. Happy birthday to you i did not think i was going to make it to today. Reporter thats because today is christines birthday. Not just any birthday, its her 36th birthday, and a symbol that she has survived another year. Its very important. You know we never thought we would be at this point. Reporter a ye she has been in remission since her diagnosis fife years ago. I never thought i would make it to my 36th birthday. And oh, gray hairs yay ive got gray hair that means ive made it.
