Atvs, mopeds and dirt bikes are illegal in dc but riders get away with speeding through city streets sometimes in large groups. Dc police have clear orders not to chase them for Public Safety reasons and residents have pleaded with the city to do more to drive them away. I really suggest to these folks that if you do so the consequences are going be severe. The bill requires riders to register with the department of Motor Vehicles and if youre caught in any public space with an illegal bike you could go jail and pay big. First offense, 30 days in jail 250 fine or both. 90 days locked up for the second offense the fine doubles and a six month suspension on your permit and more jail time for the third offense. 1,000 dollar fine or both and a one year suspension. Take it out somewhere. Some neighbors i spoke to think that this bill is no good. And a truck burst into flames on the outer loop between university boulevard and colefield road. The driver got out okay but the investigation is ongoing. One lane is still blocked so its a good idea to avoid the outer loop at this time. During an appearance on wgops radio ask the mayor today, a woman called in to voice concerns about riding the train as a single female in the middle of the day. She asked this question of the mayor.
