It gets even more bizarre. Because he lost his shoe and his mind. Because the guy in the blue is trying to walk away, the other guy follows him and then does this. They hug it out. Maybe they should have hugged it out first. How about conversation before all of this. The good thing is that things deescalated and now theyre hugging. Oh. Did you just win a regional emmy with the documentary for the medical team in haiti. Yes, two for the project. That must have been an amazing journey for you. Well as you guys i have been through a lot since i left the show two and a half years ago. After my mother passed away, my perspective on everything changed, and i decided to walk toward something that had a lot of purpose for me, so i went to haiti. Jack chapman, who is a brilliant filmmaker, who i met here right this minute joined me on this journey and we ended up just documenting what it was like to follow his medical team around through a third world hospital and doing house calls and really getting to know the people of haiti. You get there, and you start to see their lives through their eyes. I have never in my life met people with more generosity of spirit and more compassion and more joy to win an emmy for a project from the heart, i dont even know how to begin to think about that. I call it a god wink, god winking saying youre doing the right thing. What kind of impact did this documentary have then on the people there . It helped raise funds for the Organization Give hope global. What theyre doing is putting Community Health workers on the ground there. The super bowl champions back on philadelphia soil following an incredible super 52 victory. Rick williams along with Monica Malpass here. Were in the studio but were also looking at the airport right now. The plane just touching down at Philadelphia International airport. The American Airlines chartered plain the team bringing back that coveted lombardi trophy. They are still flying high on cloud nine after that incredible victory over the new england patriots. No one gave this Underdog Team much of a chance of beating a team that has won five of them and was that expected full to win again but here they are arriving back on their home turf to beloved fans, hundreds and hundreds of them are just off screen at the fenced in area here at Philadelphia International airport ready to give the royal welcome that this winning team deserves. Thats right. You have to wonder if these players had any sleep since the big victory last night. What a dramatic game. Such a nailbiter with a finish that will last a lifetime for eagles fans. So you have to wonder if if any of the players, if anyone on this plane managed to get to bed or if the celebration has continued since the game ended last night. Of course the newspapers and the internet all of the talk radio all of the sports shows are going crazy talking about the cinderella story of this team and how after numerous setbacks and so many injuries and adversity how the carson wentz story, when he looked so golden and then had that terrible acl tear week 14 and then nick foles stepped in and took over. How they went from one playoff win to the next and on to the big game in minneapolis on then won it all in the most unlikely of ways. Doug pederson the coach gets a lot of credit but it is a team that has a lot of heart and all the odds makers in the world could not put a number on the heart and the passion it took to win over such a dramatic dynasty. The plan is the players, the coaches, members of the front office all on the plane. They will deboard and get on buses to the novacare complex and we are here special coverage here on 6abc as the winners arriving here at home bringing the first super bowl trophy ever in the citys history. Again, this is just a historical moment that we are watching and waiting for all of these players to finally get off and the fans who are there waiting on the other side of the tarmac to give them a heros welcome they deserve. Absolutely. Of course philadelphians turned out in droves filling ughout thes of the city evening. In fact into the wee hours they did a lovely job of just a peaceful joyful celebration that so many people teary eyed said they had been waiting generations, their moms and dads their grandparents had longed for this, so many copies had coaches had tried it something that Doug Pederson pulled off. So many couldnt get it done chip kelly, andy reid they couldnt pull out of a super bowl win. It was a winning team going to the playoffs and never taking home the big lombardi trophy. It is going to go down as one of the most spectacular unexpected stories at least by the outside world. We expected it in philadelphia because we believed in the underdogs but a wonderful end to this dramatic story. They left a week ago as underdogs and arriving back home as super bowl champions. What a week it has been arriving in minneapolis, meeting the media, the practices, having fun, roaming the mall of america, talking to our reporters there for us from 6abc and just having a lot of fun. So composed and relaxed they were the entire week and again, to the right of your screen were looking at all the fans who are waiting to cheer on their super bowl heroes once they get off the plane. The left of your screen is that American Airlines chartered flight that left minneapolis just a few hours ago and has arrived back here in philadelphia. Absolutely. Now interestingly one player, the key player who is not on board is nick foles, your m. V. P. He has the rose sell trophy but he immediately after the game did take disney up on their lovely offer they extend every year to the winning m. V. P. And they take that person to orlando to disney world to tape a commercial that youll be seeing in the weeks and months ahead of course where did you go after you won the super bowl. The rest of the team on board and seemingly you have to assume all of the staff, we dont know if the owner may be with the team or if hes following them on on his own plane but there are crowds and hordes of people sole so excited to give a roar of real excitement to this Championship Team they deserve. They are braving the cold. 33 degrees out there right now but i dont think anyone is feeling the frigid conditions. Again, it has been just quite a journey for the eagles. A journey thats really started just about a year ago with free agency and then the draft and then preseason and the mini camps. The regular season, of course, the injuries that they sustained, the least of which was carson wentz but through it all, but through it all we are witnessing history right now. We also have action News Reporter chad pradelli who is there at the airport on the tarmac as well giving us a birds eye view of everything thats going on as the eagles get set to get off of this American Airlines chartered plane. Chad are you there. Reporter yeah, im here rick. We have our camera up against the fence to get a good shot when this plane makes its way and get some shots of the players and coaches after they deboard. Im right here behind the camera. We got about 200, 300 die hard fans continuing to party from last night. Eagles. Reporter obviously it was a great time around the city last night. Well, they have resumed it here atlantic aviation. They are excited to see this team, this super Bowl Champion Team make its way here off the plane. This team will then make its way over to the novacare complex. You can see a heavy police presence. You have the Fire Department on hand. We imagine theyll probably get an escort to the novacare complex and then i imagine those players and coaches will continue the celebration. Of course these fans are also looking forward to thursdays parade. Really this crowd out here, though for today began assembling about 12 30, 1 oclock. There was a few people and then the crowds just started to come as they heard this team would be arriving around 2 45. Any minute now we should make our way to the steps. Whats so fascinating to me is one of the people that criticized Doug Pederson calling him the least qualified coach hed ever scene was Mike Lombardi and the now obviously the world has to eat its words because mike Doug Pederson was able to analyze tapes and come up with what nick foles specialties were even though he had not had the easiest time in the nfl over the years. He had always been considered an underdog or a backup and so he really maximized his positives aspects and found what his strengths were instead of playing to his weaknesses he said lets make him the greatest he can be and work with what we have. There will be those who say they always knew Doug Pederson could do it and he was with the eagles, a quarterback with the eagles, when he was when andy reid coached and came back to the eagles and now his play calling last night will go down in history as some of the best. Some of the plays he called im thinking about that fourth down call in which nick foles caught that touchdown, i mean, just some of the some of the coaching from pederson, you know, if there was a most valuable coach or m. V. P. Award for the coach he would certainly be deserving of that as well. So but the entire team certainly pulled through and it was just a pleasure to watch, a joy to watch and the excitement is building as, again, your super bowl heroes are arriving home here at Philadelphia International airport, expected to get off any moment now to the throngs of fans here to see them and just cant wait to say thank you and a job well done. Absolutely. After last nights 41 to 33 nailbiting victory. Well, whats so interesting is a lot of people dont realize the team came together as friends and as com padres and had much more than just a job together. They were really one collective unit pulling together in a spiritual way for many of them and they felt like it was their year and that they were going to beat it out because they literally loved each other and they came to work every day not because they just felt like we got to do the drills and go through the practices, again, they felt like they had a really a higher calling, if you will, and Doug Pederson led them to that. He just had his birthday last week so the most incredible Birthday Gift you could ever imagine was to turn 50 and then also win this wonderful lombardi trophy for your city and your team. Nick foles says after he finishes working in the nfl he wants to be a pastor so he literally believes this was meant to be for him, the team and they just kept saying with every serious injury next man up and it was a friend of theirs so the next man up did the job, too. It was a game of dynasty versus destiny and certainly the way that they defeated the new england patriots, they say you have to beat the best to be the best and they certainly did that last night in a game that will go down in memory as just one of the best super bowl games of all time. Looking at nick foles there with his family, some fans and one of the sweetest comments he got teary eyed actually when he said that he wanted to do a good job so his baby daughter would be proud of her daddy and he was literally in tears thinking of what that would mean to her in the years to come. So, again, it was so personal for them and its obviously personal for all of the people of philadelphia who also feel that passionately about this team and that sport. Once again, this is live coverage as we move into the 3 oclock hour here at 6abc. Our eagles coverage continuing the day after a wonderful super bowl victory. The players getting ready to get off of this chartered American Airlines flight from minneapolis. They will get off, board a bus to the novacare complex and again just the celebrations continuing that will last well beyond thursday. Thursday as the city officially said will be the super bowl parade through the city. Well tell you a little bit more about that expected to start at broad and patterson, go up broad street, to city hall and then maybe to ben franklin parkway to big celebration in front of the art museum but right now all eyes on this plane here at Philadelphia International airport, the fans cant wait to salute their super bowl heroes, their champions for the first time in franchise history. And theyre about to open the door, of course, to disembark to that wonderful excited throng. Doug pederson you have to give him credit for another thing, having nerves of steel. Any one else who hasnt been to the super bowl as a coach, he was there as a player not as a coach, might have really shied away in that harsh spotlight, the white hot spotlight of all the International Media and all the pressure that comes on coaches at a super bowl. Instead of railing it back a bit maybe dialing it back a couple notches and being conservative and as you said trying for something, a threepointer instead of a touchdown he ramped it up, he rose to the challenge and did something that literally half a dozen people have not been able to pull off before him so really you have to give him credit, something that he will go down in as good a statue as chuck knowles, joe gibbs tom landry as many of them have pulled off the unlikely success of this man. The celebrations continue. We saw a night of celebrations throughout the city of philadelphia. Celebrations here at Philadelphia International airport that will extend again into thursday where the parade is supposed to take place and past then. This is a victory eagles fans have been looking forward to, hoping for for years. Some people will tell you a lifetime. And now this moment is here. You think about all the different celebrations of other teams, the sixers have had their moment in the sun from championships. The phillies, the flyers. Villanova, the wildcats. [cheers and applause] theyre coming out but apparently looks like they handed the trophy back so some of the players can carry it off themselves. What a beautiful scene to witness these champions coming home and really a heros welcome to every single one of them because they were the most prepared and the most driven and they just refused to let failure even be an option. Looks like members of the front office were getting off first. We did see coach pederson and then i think we will be seeing some of the players who are deplaning right now. You hear the crowd chanting just a joyous sound as philadelphia welcomes home its royalty in football. So many people were waiting for a misfire, nick foles the substitute they figured that a future hall of famer would not be able to be beaten but how wrong were the pundits and socalled experts. We talked about the game being such a nailbiter last night. You know, the eagles scoring first, going in to halftime up by 10 a then the patriots trying to make a comeback. This is a better shot as we see some of the players, some of them with their camera phones ready. All right, chad, can you tell us who youre seeing there if you can hear us now . Its tough for me to hear whats going on but its tough from our view, the sun is barreling in our eyes but obviously a very excited bunch out here as this team deboards and comes back to town with the lombardi prophy.
