We are looking at snow moving through most of the region. Snow changing over from rain in philadelphia right now. Storm tracker6 live double scan shows it to you every time we look at this radar that snow line is pushed farther to the east and now its past philadelphia. What were seeing in the city is very light and were only expecting about a coating maybe a couple spots up and down i95 get up to an inch. Northern suburbs have filed piled up a little bit more. Only snow amounts is from North Catasauqua to the north of allentown and youre at about 1. 9inches as of 3 30 and probably more than that now. Snow starting to lessen a little bit but definitely impacting the early part of the morning commute and probably not totally getting out of here until between about 8 oclock and 9 oclock this morning. 34 degrees right now in philadelphia. But dont be fooled. There are some spots that havent been treated. Theyre a little bit cooler in and around these areas so even though weve got numbers just above the freezing mark there could be some icy patches and definitely possible as you go up north where weve gotten that snow coverage, some partially snow covered roads. 35 degrees in millville, 34 in cape may, still raining down there. As we roll through the day, it looks like were going to be close to the freezing mark most of the time. Im actually going to allow for us to bounce back up to about 34 briefly around lunchtime but you will be below freezing much of the day and maybe even down into the upper 20s pretty quickly this afternoon and this evening. So, karen, if the snow wraps up between 8 oclock and 10 oclock as were pretty sure it will look outcause anything that doesnt dry might freeze up a little bit on those untreated surfaces with these temperatures dropping. Youll have to be careful even later on today. Were looking outside live right now in downingtown no chester in Chester County. Weve been watching the snowflake come down pretty steadily. We can see the snow coming across the roadway. We can see its piling up along the sides of the roads or at least laying to the ground but not so much sticking to the treated surfaces on the 30 bypass at business route 30. Over here were looking live at the schuylkill at Henderson Road and a better shot now of the snow thats kind of blowing here all across the roadway. Not sling or sliding. The schuylkill has been well treated. Take it easy because it has changed over to snow through most of the area. Looking live at the snow on the schuylkill at Henderson Road near king of prussia. Now were in towamencin township, we have a vehicle that slid into a pole but it cleared so moving better now on morris road. Lower gwynedd accident on Sumneytown Pike at dekalb pike. In new jersey this is what it looks like on 42. Weve seen that changeover from rain to snow here. Thats your northbound traffic coming up from deptford or turnersville. So even now in south jersey its snowing but the main roads seem mostly wet, matt. Thanks karen. Trish hartman has been counting snowflakes for us and joins us live in Whitehall TownshipLehigh County. Good morning, trish. Reporter good morning, matt. Too many to count but theyre still falling, those nice big fluffy flakes here in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County. You take a look, a crew just came in and salted the sidewalks. So this sidewalk looks pretty good but you want to be careful as youre Walking Around but then as we go over to the road you can see it is starting to stick. Maybe have an inch here thats laying on top of the curb and then it is slushy and it is sticking on the roads. We just had a plow come through so you can see the road right now. Folks are taking their time, which is a great thing, but it is slick and slushy. Weve seen a number of plow trucks and salt trucks coming through here on macarthur road in Whitehall Township trying to treat the roads and keep things clear as we really get into the heart of the rush hour this morning. As we came up here in the Lehigh County from the city started out as rain and then we started to see the changeover as we got onto the northeast extension. So, again, here in Whitehall Township in Lehigh County not too many issues to report here just yet but again, the snow is falling. It is sticking. And officials want to you take your time here on the roads as you get your morning commute to work or school under way. Reporting live in Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, trish hartman, channel6 action news. All right, thank you for that, trish. Now, the action cam is live along the schuylkill there near city avenue. You can see were seeing a little bit more volume here as people get up and get going trying to head out to work but at least here it looks as though people are keeping the speeds moderate and we do see a mix out there. Some snow, some ice, some rain. So, be careful. Its 5 05 and 34 degrees. Now lets go on over to action News Reporter jeanette reyes. Shes live in roxborough with a look at conditions in the city. Good morning, jeanette. Reporter good morning, tam. The snow continues to fall here and it is sticking, though, on treat owed areas, its just wet so they did a good job on that with the streets. Take a look at the sidewalk here. Its sticking and it is a bit slippery actually so its the kind of thing that you really want to be careful with. It will be similar to what we had a couple weeks ago. Then it was ice now its just slippery conditions as far as the snow but take a look at the road here. What a difference it makes when they treat the road. Again, its just wet so if you have if you overdrive a little too much or if you drive too fast you might run into some problems. Were along ridge avenue and cinnaminson street in roxborough and we saw that precipitation slowly transition to snow around 3 15 this morning. The snow totals are speculated to be minimal especially compared to what trish is seeing. Its the timing that may cause some issues for you on the roads. Were expecting the bulk of this to fall at the peak of rush hour. For most of the area it will die down by mid to late morning. So, again, give yourself some extra time, though not nearly as much as you needed a couple of weeks ago. Just make sure that you take it slow on this road. You might run into some icy patches. Reporting live in roxborough, jeanette reyes, channel6 action news. Thanks so much, jeanette. Other news here, investigators are working to find out what caused a serious crash that injured four people in Montgomery County. The two cars collided head on last night on game farm road near mill road in limerick township. Two people had to be airlifted to the hospital. The other two were taken by ambulance. No word on their conditions. A womans incredible close call on the citys hunting park section could have been much worse. She fell onto the broad street subway tracks yesterday afternoon. Authorities say the train passed directly over the 35yearold woman without striking her. This happened northbound at the allegheny avenue station and caused some delays. The would. Is recovering at Temple University hospital. It is 5 07. Philadelphia police are making sure they are ready for any problems ahead of the eagles nfc championship game on sunday. The intersection of frankford and cottman avenues in the citys mayfair section is often the Gathering Place for many sports celebrations so police are urging bar owners to avoid serving drinks in bottles. Instead use plastic cups and use only those plastic containers. They have asked businesses to remove anything thats outside like signs and trash cans and to make sure to lock store front gates after they close. David, we have about 30 School Delays right now mostly in the western suburbs. Thats what i thought west to north because you know the snow did move in from the west and now its pushing towards the east. Thats not a surprise, matt. In philadelphia conditions arent really that bad. Storm tracker6 live double scan, though, does show you that in the city we have changed over from rain to snow and if we take that two dimensional view you can see even though the snow isnt all that heavy, it is crossing over into philadelphia and this could be giving you some slippery spots and sometimes they can pop up kind of surprise like. Weve got official temperature at the airport of 34 degrees but there are some areas in here that certainly are cold enough to support a little icing up on the roads where it hasnt been treated so be careful of that and parts of south jersey now beginning to change over as well just as we expected. As we go off to the north and west, though, we are once this lapses here, youll see, we are looking at a lightening up of the precipitation and even a little bit of a hole thats opened up in northern Montgomery County and parts of Chester County. And up into berks county as well. We are looking, however, at a little slightly steadier stuff still up in the Lehigh Valley and points north and so be careful up there. Theres another little band coming down out of slatington headed toward allentown and then little bit more over by easton as well and ill leave you with that wide view. We dollar do expect this to continue to push over to the east and probably be offer off the coast by 9, 10 oclock. Probably ending up by about 8, 9 oclock this morning. As we take a look outside, we are getting a little better visibility at the Commodore Barry bridge, about an hour ago we had this shot and it was harder to see the bridge because the snow was a little bit thicker but not so bad right now. Temperature currently in philadelphia is 34 degrees. Your wind chill is 27 degrees with that 9 Miles Per Hour wind and there are some areas especially to the north and west of philadelphia that are either at freezing or below freezing and that would include allentown and lancaster which has dropped to 29. Wilmington down to 33 and this colder air from the northwest is settling in. Were probably going to see temperatures drop below the freezing mark for a bit this morning, bounce back up to about 34 at lunchtime and then go back toward the freezing mark pretty quickly after that, so in areas where you are getting the snow, be careful. There could be an icy patch developing this morning and anything that doesnt dry later on could freeze up here or there. In terms of the movement of this, it looks like between now and about 7 30, it is continuing to push over, changing over to snow closer to the shore. Starting to dry out in the northern and western suburbs and then very quickly banging on out of here probably by about 9, 10 oclock. Could be some lingering snow showers after that but the main snow gone pretty quick. And later today, we could even see some clearing and perhaps some late day sun. On the ground were expecting about a coating to an inch in philadelphia. Thats about it. By the time this is all said and done and about one to two in the northern suburbs an little bit higher up in the Lehigh Valley. The only report we have thats come in recently is from North Catasauqua north of allentown 1. 5inches. That was a couple hours ago so you probably have more up there now. Todays forecast hovering around freezing maybe popping up above for awhile but then going back down later today so it will be on the cold side today and untreated sidewalks and side streets may be developing a bit of a problem later. Accuweather alert from this morning, we got that morning snow and rain. Kind of a messy commute in philadelphia. Just take it slow. Youre probably okay. Up in the northern and western suburbs youre the worst. 34 degrees is the high and then that tapers off, we might get some late day sun. Then tomorrow sunny brisk cold, 37. And after that, we start to climb out from this cold snap. 43 the afternoon high on friday with sunshine. And for the weekend were up to 51 on saturday, mostly sunny and mild the way things are looking now and how about a mix of sun and clouds on sunday . Great weather to do some tailgating with a high getting up to about 50. And it looks like it will be cool for the eagles game probably game Time Temperature mid 40s somewhere but nice weather for football especially this time of year. And a fantastic day to punch your ticket to the super bowl. Oh, my goodness lets hope thats how it works out. 5 11. New this morning a bright flash in parts of the great lakes a likely meteor was Strong Enough to trigger an earthquake. Health officials warn that this flu season could get even worse. So well tell you where you can get a free flu shot today. Karen. Were live on route one here at the pennsylvania turnpike in bucks county where you see the light snowfall coming down. Reducing visibility just a touch although the highway is just wet. Weve got a new accident involving an overturned vehicle. Ill take you there coming up next. Welcome back. Weve got a little bit of snow coming down so a wintry mix, some precipitation out there today and weve got a lot of School Delays and closings. Check the bottom of the screen at 6abc. Com. It is 5 15, 34 degrees. Were up to about 51 the last time we checked. 95 looks like its just wet, karen. I think a lot of treated surfaces are mostly just wet but it doesnt mean that its not slick as you go here or there in spots. So, its not as if were saying, hey, its a sheet of ice be careful. Im seeing a handful of accidents come in. You need to expect even if it looks wet youre going to get slushy slick spots. We have a new accident in one of those areas where it just recently changed from rain to snow so it may have looked just wet and then it gets a little slush on the road and you take it too quickly youre in trouble. Its an accident involving an overturned vehicle in new jersey. Its in west deptford on the 295 northbound off ramp to route 130. That ramp is now partially blocked. The vehicle just flipped right over. Lets take a live look outside and show you what it looks like with some of the snow out here. So we can see in this shot in chalfont you see the tire marks through some of the snow that has landed here on at least the sides of the roads. Well, the main roads themselves that are well traveled look pretty wet. On 202 at bristol road here in bucks county so be careful as youre heading out. Its not piling up on the roads but it can be a little slushy here or there as that slow is coming down. This is the boulevard extension approaching the schuylkill. Southbound traffic not seeing anyone slip or slide. Main roads are wet. An accident just cleared on Sumneytown Pike just an example of what you want to avoid. Heres storm tracker6 live double scan. You can see some dry air pockets kind of punching into this so we may have some breaks in the action but its coming down pretty good in the north and west in allentown, in reading, a little bit of dry air currently in quakertown and near pottstown youre about to get a little bit of a break in the action. Here in the city, its changed from rain to snow. Weve got snow here in the city and jenkintown on the 30 bypass in media on the schuylkill, on i95. Its still icy here farther in new jersey near berlin getting an icy mix along route 70, near cherry hill and along 130 near pennsauken, matt. Okay, karen, thanks so much. New this morning here, a flash of bright light followed by a boom filled the night skies over of parts of michigan. The National Weather service says it was likely a meteor. The announcement came during the third round of talks between the two countries in less than 10 days. As well, north korea agreed last week to send a delegation to next months olympics. Still north korea has made it clear that it does not want to discuss its Nuclear Program during the ongoing meetings with south korea. Republicans are working on a short term spending bill that will keep the government running past the friday deadline. However, theres no indication that democrats will go along with this plan. The eagles say they are using that as extra motivation as they did against atlanta which was also favored over them. The action News Sports Team is preparing a special friday night playoff preview party. We will be broadcasting live from chickies and petes in south philadelphia. Watch it at 7 30 p. M. Friday on 6abc. Bring some crab fries and a win over here. It is 5 19. For weeks now drivers have been dealing with slick snowy roads. See how new technology is helping drivers handle those dicey conditions and severe Winter Weather next. Good morning, everybody. Matt is filling us in on all his dreams. Theyre great. See what happens in the commercial break. Lets take you outside right here. Its the schuylkill expressway. Here we are approaching the conshohocken curve. I want to warn it as we look at these shots were seeing people move just fine for the most part on the highways but snow is coming down. Weve had that changeover from rain to snow through most of the area and certainly there are slick spots on the highways and the secondary roads are more slick. We have a handful of accidents. One in abington on north hills avenue at jenkintown road. This is new and just coming in. So a handful of accidents suggesting you just got to slow it down, dave. Karen not a bad idea considering most of the area is under some snow. A lot of what has changed over from rain in philadelphia is fairly light and temperatures are hovering close to the freezing mark. A little above in some cases so its a messy commute in through here. The farther north you step through the suburbs, though, the thicker the snow is yet and the more youve had on the ground. So, this would probably be the tougher area for you northern bucks, northern Montgomery County out toward as you move through Chester County and then points north. Still raining in south jersey. Maybe a brief changeover. Not a whole lot of accumulation there. Several inches up north is what were expecting by the time were done. Temperatures today are going to be fluctuating a little bit. Well start out at 34 and then dip down to the freezing mark. I can actually see us going up to 34 around lunchtime but kind of going a little below shes 33degree temperatures occasionally off and on during the day. The idea here is that even though the snow is probably going to be over by about 8 oclock, 10 oclock, somewhere in there anything that doesnt dry out o could potentially freeze up here and there with these temperatures settling close to the freezing mark.
