We have a big accident at university avenue. I showed you this shot earlier. We had westbound completely blocked, eastbound almost completely blocked with this accident. Its a different scene now. We can see theyve pushed most of the vehicles off to the side. It was a multivehicle accident as chopper pans back you see what a tough morning commute it is. This delay stretches for miles and youre not expecting this kind of delay westbound headed towards University City coming off of the walt whitman bridge. Traffic is barely moving because of that accident. The good news is the accident that was blocking all lanes for awhile is off to the side now and eastbound traffic is also getting by so youre stuck in the traffic now but theres light at the end of the tunnel there because theyre allowing it to move at the scene. Lets switch to our Traffic Cameras and you get a different sense of whats happening here. So, heres that jammed traffic on the schuylkill westbound at university. Emergency workers off to the side. Last time i showed you this shot we saw how eastbound was really blocked as well with fire crews on the scene. They have left the scene but still were talking speeds of eight, 5 miles an hour on the schuylkill expressway and you can see that jammed traffic and a 27 Minute Travel time from the walt whitman bridge to the vine so thats a huge delay. Another big problem that were having, its some snow that snuck in early here in Chester County, in Delaware County. Were getting light snowfall in wilmington as david has been talking about, in delaware and that has created some snowy conditions here and an accident on glen willow road here in Chester County at gap newport pike, dave. Yeah, were getting tweets from people in west chester Delaware County and especially out in Chester County and then up in berks county talking about some light coverage, just a little bit but thats enough to get you slipping and sliding is. We have a Winter Weather advisory today through wednesday morning and its in northern and western Chester County. Northern bucks, northern montco and then up through the lehigh valley. Technically this one doesnt kick in until about 4 oclock but in these areas were already seeing some of that light snow from the first batch coming in. The bigger time period for us we think is going to be later in the evening hours and overnight into tomorrow morning. That will be where the biggest impact s right now radar picking up some more intense and pronounced showers out just to the west of reading and in through lancaster county. Theres a little bit of a blip here or there in Chester County, Montgomery County and points to the east of this main snow shower activity. Some of this light stuff youre seeing is falling from some very low clouds that are actually beneath the scan of the radar so this is the bulk of it but ahead of it a couple spotty snow showers already happening and that will gradually build in as the day goes on. Now, in philadelphia were going to get mild today, getting up to about 40 during the 2 oclock to 4 oclock period. We dont think the snow is going to be able to make it here and even if it did it would melt right weigh. In the overnight hours temperatures will drop and you can see on future tracker how even if the main body of snow by 8 oclock tonight is still displaced to the north and west eventually it is going to sweep through and during the morning commute right past until about 10 oclock well be dealing with some light snow. We will talk about how much we expect on the ground and the biggest time periods to be impacted by this coming up, tam. Okay, good to know. Thank you david. Developing this morning, a Security Guard shot and wounded a robbery suspect in the citys kensington section. It happened at the Family Dollar store along the 3100 block of frankford avenue at 10 00 last night. Investigators say employees confronted a 31yearold man for stealing items. They say he pulled out a knife and then took off with the drawer from the cash register. A Security Guard confronted him outside and that is when police say the man lunged at the guard with the knife. The Security Guard fired a shot hitting the man in the leg. Arriving officers had to use their tasers and pepper spray to finally subdue him. It appeared that he was under the influence of some sort of narcotics which caused him to behave this way. The robbery suspect is in the hospital in stable condition. It is 6 07 and happening today, jury selection begins for allentown mayor ed pawlowskis federal corruption trial. Prosecutors say pawlowski ran a pay to play scheme and tried to get Campaign Contributions in exchange for city contracts. He faces 54 counts including fraud and lying to the fbi. The mayor has denied any wrongdoing and was reelected despite the looming trial. Big u. S. Bank discovers a sliver in pay gap and despite its small size the bank promises action. Storm tracker6 live double scan right now shows that you most of the pronounced snow is out by reading and lancaster and if we go in overhead, you can see that. However, in closer on Chester County and parts of Delaware County, New Castle County, delaware, and parts of montgomery and berks where youre not seeing that snow move in just yet, we have seen some break away light snow showers that have put a little coating down on some windshields and even some roads in places like west chester and i have one tweet from brookhaven that said theyre seeing a little bit of this so out ahead of that gray you see some low level clouds leaving just a little bit of light snow out there. You do want to be careful anywhere youre seeing it and again it is basically to the west of philadelphia right now and off to the northwest. As we take a look outside, we have sky6, a lot of clouds in place over the Commodore Barry bridge this morning. And its cold but not as miserable as its been recently. Maybe its a little chillier around that tugboat chugging up the river. 30 degrees in philadelphia, 27 in allentown, 28 in reading, 27 in lancaster. 29 in millville. These numbers are alible all below freezing. That first wave of precipitation coming in is very light but it is encountering conditions below freezing at the surface so if youre driving around or Walking Around on something that hasnt been pretreated do be careful out there. Snowflakes on the windshield can mean slick spots on the roads. Overall, though, the main bulk of snow will probably hold off until either late in the afternoon or this evening as it tries to come in from the west and begins to get a little bit more energy from a low thats going to be forming down off avenue cape hatteras. We see the snow building in overnight into 7 oclock wednesday morning. Its not going to be a super heavy snow but it does look like it could be enough to make roads slick and gets out of here pretty quickly during the late Morning Hours and so timingwise, light snow this morning with some snow showers here or there in the northern and western suburbs. Thats really round one and it shouldnt amount to all that much. Maybe somebody picks up a half inch or an inch somewhere this morning in the northern and western suburbs. Then this afternoon snow north and West Building back in. Probably still dry this afternoon through the i95 metro area. Its later tonight where that second round of snow really develops in association with that passing low. And the snow will have a tendency to push down through the im 95 corridor. By 7 oclock tonight fairly low impact outside of the north and west. By 11 oclock, in those northern and Western Areas youre starting to see some slick roads and then the big issue for most of us will be overnight through 4 00 a. M. Through 7 00 a. M. And then things gradually Getting Better by 11 00 a. M. And what are we expecting . Coating to an inch down south, but from about williamstown through gloucester, camden counties, salem county, looks like Burlington County at least the northern half and all the way up through philadelphia, trenton, wilmington and up to doylestown one to 2 inches and those Northern Areas two to 4 inches by the time we are done. Up in allentown then, 34 is your high, mostly cloudy and the snow probably for the most part holding off until late in the day or night a, maybe you see a little bit of something this morning. Today its a little bit of light snow arriving gradually through the day getting more significant tonight and then wednesday morning weve got those snow showers and slick conditions for the morning commute. Walt whitman bridge westbound so as youre traveling from 42 youre heading onto 676, then the walt whitman bridge heading into the city youve got an accident here westbound on the walt whitman bridge thats blocking a lane so thats creating problems there as well. And weve been talking about the problems here with icy conditions and snow thats fallen here in Chester County and weve got an accident on glen willow road at gap newport pike and i want to you keep tweeting your pictures and i thank everybody who did. New this morning, 10 workers are dead in a bridge collapse in bogota colombia. They were on the structure when part of it gave way. Nine workers died on that scene another at the hospital. Crews are scouring the area now trying to find any other workers who were caught in the collapse. Now to a story so awful its hard to believe that it could be true. Police in california discover 13 siblings held captive in filthy conditions so under fed that even the adults among them look like young children. A 17yearold girl managed to get free with a cell phone calling police to this perris, california home. Officials found the 13 siblings chained up and padlocked to their beds. They were shockingly thin and kept in their own filth. Their parents david and luis turpin have been arrested. Theyre being held on 9 million bail. Police were disturbed to find that seven of the captives were actually adults 18 to 29 years old in age but so starved shrunken and emaciated they looked like young children. In Chester County we have an accident where its icy route one oxford bypass southbound the off ramp to 472. On the big picture we had a big accident on the schuylkill expressway eastbound here that had been causing problems. Its off to the side but were still seeing that right now some slow going traffic. It was westbound at university where we had the accident and also here on the walt whitman bridge a new accident westbound thats been causing problems as well. Its now blocking the two left lanes. Youre seeing speeds of about 11 miles an hour westbound at university the speeds have picked up a little bit with that accident off to the side. A lot going on this morning, matt. Indeed. Large ice chunks blocked water from going downstream near trenton yesterday. River banks flooded closing roads in the State Capitol and across the river in lower makefield bucks county. Ive never seen it like solid pack though. Its just not even moving at all. Thats actually a wall and then the water is usually like 15, 20 feet down below that. The ice jam eventually thawed in trenton yesterday allowing river levels to slowly fall back down last night. Trenton water works customers are still under a boil water advisory due to a Treatment Plant malfunctioning. As the snow moves in right now, be be sure to download the 6abc a. Check storm tracker6 radar any time on your phone or tablet. Homicide detectives are working two deadly shootings in the city of philadelphia. The latest one happened on the 2200 block of south 71st street in southwest philadelphia. Police say the gunman shot a man in the head and back at close range around 2 30 this morning. The victim died at the scene. And in north philadelphia the search is on for the gunman who pulled up to a 27yearold man and killed him with bullets. The shooting happened at 12th and brown streets just after midnight. Witnesses tell police the bullets came from a dark or black colored vehicle that fled the scene. The victim was hit twice in the chest and pronounced dead at the hospital. Hundreds of people poured in to pay their respects to a murdered penn student. A private funeral was held for 19yearold blaze bernstein in california last night. Authorities are now saying the sophomore was stabbed more than 20 times. The suspect, 20yearold Samuel Woodward is expected to be arraigned this week. Woodward was bernsteins high school friend. Detectives are investigating whether the killing was an act of rage. Homeowners escaped injury when a flatbed truck slammed into their salem county home. It landed on the pilesgrove property after colliding with another vehicle yesterday afternoon. Some of this is in Montgomery County and some of you are seeing just a small little coating of snow out ahead of that main band and you do want to be careful out there because it could be slick. In fact, if we take a look at the action cam in west goshen township there you see some of those light snow showers. This is Chester County in the vicinity of west chester where we have been getting tweets from people saying, yeah, were starting to see some of this light stuff. Its not big and this is really only round one of what were going to see. The bulk of the snow is going to come through in another round later tonight and probably do a better job than this of coating sidewalks and streets and probably putting down more accumulation but you can already see some of this is out there on the pavement especially where it hasnt been treated and you do want to be careful this morning in places where youre seeing this. We are below freezing out in the Western Areas as well so that snow is sticking. Wind chill of 24. Overall it doesnt feel that bad. Here are the subfreezing temperatures though, so if you are seeing some of those light snow showers out in this area you do that want to slow it down. Its also fairly cold in south jersey but were not seeing any snow there. We still have that ice jam flooding going on there and that will be probably continue throughout the day. We are looking at that light snow shower activity this morning especially north and west of philadelphia but late today and tonight thats really where the snow starts to drive into the north and west, probably still dry through the afternoon in the i95 corridor tonight in through wednesday morning as you just saw, thats when the snow really develops for the city as well. And what are we looking at . Coating to an inch of do nothing stuff down south. One to 2 inches in and around philadelphia, trenton, wilmington, from williamstown up to lansdale and then its two to 4 inches total up around allentown, quakertown, reading and points north. The main snow is going to be affecting us mostly late tonight and into tomorrow. So, were going to be dealing with this awhile. We can also see the porches in berks county here, steve o sent that in showing the snow that theyre dealing with right there and we can see some of it in our camera lens as we look at business route 30 at bailey road and we can see the slick conditions that people are traveling here with this dusting on the roads in thorndale in Chester County so some areas getting this. Were getting it now in Montgomery County as well. Switching our camera scene well show you what it looks like here as we switch to the 30 bypass to business route 30. A little hard to see in this shot but ive been watching some of the light flurries kind of fly across the roadway so it is slick in areas because temperatures are below freezing so you need to be careful as youre traveling. Weve got an accident that weve been following on the schuylkill expressway westbound at university. It was off to the side. Theyve cleared this scene and the traffics looking a lot better now. Westbound we saw at one point a 26 minute jam. Were down to 13 minutes between the walt whitman bridge and the vine but we are getting reports of several accidents on 422 eastbound and westbound near reading. So, thats an area off to the north and west that you need to be particularly careful about on 422 thats just coming in from police saying several accidents in or near reading westbound and eastbound on 422 with slick conditions. As you look at the temperatures, you can see why it would be slick with any flurries coming down. 25 in quakertown, 28 in malvern. Its below freezing in the city itself. Three sheriffs deputies and a Police Officer were all shot overnight in york county south carolina, all of them have been rushed to the hospital. Were still working to find out their conditions.
