Now, the National Weather service has extended the wind chill advisory. They were supposed to be expiring at noon tomorrow. Instead, theyve been extended until 10 oclock sunday morning and that wind chill warning continues until then in the poconos, so this dangerous cold will be lasting most of the weekend. So, tomorrow morning, the wind chills even a little bit more extreme in some parts of our region than this morning. The far northern suburbs, the lehigh valley, parts of berks county, the poconos, 15 to 30 degrees below zero. Most of our region dropping to 10 to 15 degrees below zero right around the coast still dangerous but not quite as harsh, five to 10 degrees below zero. So, the accuweather highlights will show you record lows are likely the next two nights. Best chance will be sunday morning. Thats when the temperature in philadelphia will drop to its coldest level in 24 years. Monday evening, a wintry mix will develop but after that, im tracking a january thaw. The frigid temperatures caused a water pipe to burst in a vacant house and sent water into the street. The result, a sheet of ice that froze around cars and encased the tires. Residents we talked to say they couldnt get to work and could barely stand up outside. The whole driveway from the house thats leaking the water all the way down to the corner. The top end is fine but from that house on down, its horrible. Residents say they called the Water Department which says the vacant home is on its list to shut off. A Chemical Spill prompted a hazmat response at Drexel University today. Firefighters saw some kind of smoke coming from the third floor of this building in the 200 block of south 33d street. Turns out there was a hydrochloric acid spill. That chemical is pretty common in Household Cleaning Products but this concentration of it required a hazmat call. Since the school is on break only three people were inside at the time and they were safely evacuated. The National Guard had to be deployed to parts of the area after water began pouring through a crack in the wall. About 20 residents had to leave their homes. A newer section of that seawall is holding up but crews are now working to repair the crack which is in the older section of the wall here in massachusetts. Basically what this means is limit your outdoor time if you can right through 10 oclock on sunday morning cause frost bite if youre not careful and your extremities especially like the fingertips, toes, ears, nose you can get frost bite in less than 30 minutes. 16 is the air temperature right now in philadelphia. 15 trenton, allentown. 15 wilmington as well as millville so temperatures are pretty on par acrosstheboard here. Not varying all that much but then up factor in the wind and this is the number were going to Pay Attention to all weekend long. Overnight tonight clear, frigid but wind chills subzero and near records for trenton, wilmington as well as Atlantic City by tomorrow morning. Icy cold elsewhere despite no records late tonight but then tomorrow that sunshine is with us, the arctic high still way to the west so the wind still 35 to 40 miles an hour. A high of 15, colder than today with wind chills five to 15 below the entire day and then as the winds ease saturday night sunday morning as winds relax you can throw even more of any heat thats generated up into the atmosphere so were going to slam those temperatures down below zero. These arent wind chills, these are air temperatures. By sunday morning breaking all of these old records and smashing the old record of four in 1884 in Atlantic City. Were going for five below sunday morning. Then monday there are two systems were watching. They stay separate here so we just got a little clip here put even with a little clip late monday, monday evening and monday night, there could be some ice and snow to deal with here as the pattern starts to change. Again, late monday there will be that wintry mix passing through at 34 and then we bump it to the 40s tuesday. The poconos this morning nearly felt 30 degrees below zero with the wind chill, allentown 11 below, philadelphia eight below, wilmington nine below Atlantic City airport with all that snow 7 degrees below zero and wind chills actually will drop even lower tomorrow morning. Right now wind chills already dropping below zero in philadelphia, four below in allentown and reading, six below in lancaster, two below millville. 23 degrees below zero in the poconos and the National Weather service has extended the wind chill advisory. It was supposed to be in effect until noon tomorrow. Its now been extended u
