Well have more in a live report on action news at 6 00. Now to a developing story out of washington. The house passed the gop plan earlier today and the senate will vote on it this evening. Democrats say that three provisions in the tax bill violate senate rules and will be removed and force the house to revote on it tomorrow. Speaker of the house paul ryan promises that the gop tax reform bill will cut taxes for the middle class and promote economic growth. And new Analysis Finds in a decade 70 of the middle class will see a tax hike and 60 of the wealthy will see their taxes go down. Now we go to sara bloomquist live in Plymouth Meeting tonight where one expert shared her thoughts on what the tax plan could mean for all of us. Rick, that is right. We spoke with an accountant here and speaking with shoppers at the metroplex this afternoon. Built is known to be widely unpopular with the American Public and we found that true here today at the metroplex. There is an site and apprehension for what it means for taxpayers. Holiday shopping was on the minds of many and we found shoppers were thinking about todays vote on the tax bill and what it might mean for them. Cant really figure out what its saying, i hope it doesnt mean that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. I believe sincerely its not for the average american person. And the republicans have just made a sham of it. The bill alters the tax bracket and lowers rates. The top rate drops to 37 from 39. 6. And cpa jennifer says that most americans will see more money in their february paychecks. They hear it will only help the rich and immediately they think its not going help them and i dont think that is the case. Taxpayers may no longer want to itemize deductions as it may not be as high as the standard deduction. With regard to property taxes and income taxes you pay to your state and local. That deduction which is an itemized deduction is capped to 10,000. Now, the standard deduction however has doubled. The Child Tax Credit has doubled for families making up to 400,000. And people that bought their homes before december 15th can deduct mortgage interest up to a Million Dollars and those afterwards will see that lowered to 750,000. Its important to work with an adviser or crunch the numbers yourself. Its best to be prepared. And one of the biggest moves, the bill slashes the Corporate Tax rate from 35 to 21 . That is a permanent cut while cuts for individuals will expire in 2026. Finally the bill repeals the requirement that all americans have Health Insurance or face penalty. Live in preliminary authmeeting, channel 6 action news. Our coverage continues at 6abc. Com, youll hear arguments on both sides of the debate and what it means for taxpayers.
