The family sought sanctuary to avoid immediate deportation, she feels violence from drug wars in mexico. I would be extorted and facing the death threats, so i cannot go back. Carmela and her two boys and two girls ranging in age from 11 to 15 were living in vineland, new jersey and spending days seeking refuge at churches. It is more important than ever to stand together. That we struggle side by side and offer resistance and offer love. Carmela is seeking asylum for two years and the request was denied prompting the deportation order. And the family remains at the church while the attorney appeals the decision. They are living here and eating here and being here as long as their case takes to seek justice. I feel grateful.
