Katherine scott has been live on the scene telling us about a fatal accident. The accident investigation still under way. The nortbondanes of the black horse pike are closed at ganttown road. It was a truck driver who struck and killed a woman who was walking along that road in Washington Township, new jersey. Lets go right to action News ReporterKatherine Scott who is live at the scene and also has some new information about what exactly happened here, katherine. Reporter matt, i did speak to a friend of the victim who says that he was walking nearby her when this happened. I dont want to say her name because i dont know if family has been notified. But he says that the victim is a woman in her 60s. She was pronounced dead on the scene. She was originally from barrington, new jersey, and more recently has been staying at a nearby motel. As far as whats going on right now here in Washington Townshipyou can see the northbound lanes of 42 remain closed for the investigation. This happened around 2 30 this morning here at ganttown road. The southbound lanes are getting by. The friend told me that he and the victim had just left the nearby golden luck motel. Thats where they stay. They were walking to a dennys down the street from here. He told me they were crossing at the intersection when the light was red. She was behind him and she was struck and thrown by a truck. She was pronounced dead on the scene and the witness did say the truck did stop. Crossing the street. I turned around. She said im coming. I turned around again, i was at the cross street, i turned around and she was gone. Reporter so far police havent commented on the circumstances surrounding this crash. There are a number of businesses in the area. Its unclear if police have found any footage that can help in this investigation but as you can see as were taking a live look right now that traffic is getting by in the southbound lanes but the northbound lanes remain closed for the police investigation. Investigators really trying to figure this one out. We know they were out here late into the night collecting evidence and combing really through the large scene here. At this point, they believe this may be a homicide. Take a look at the crime scene or the scene from overhead from chopper6 hd. This is above the Shopping Plaza in the 400 block of ridge pike in plymouth township. The discovery of the body was made just before 6 00 monday evening. Now, the scene was fairly large. It took up about two parking lots and it appears a mood trail was the reason for that but police seem to focus their efforts on several cars here, one of them this dark colored car was carefully inspected for any evidence and then that was eventually towed away. No word this morning on whether or not anything of significance was recovered from that vehicle. Also no word this morning on the cause of this, although it is possible that this person was that stabbed. We are working to get some additional information. New this morning firefighters battled large flames and thick smoke as they got in control of a fire in west philadelphia. Those flames breaking out around 12 30 on spruce street near 60th street. It was a store front with apartments upstairs. E suffered major njuries. Ut there are no Philadelphia Police say an 80yearold mans granddaughter is the one who killed him inside his Port Richmond home. Robert girard was found stabbed to death last week. He had more than 40 stab wounds. The vicious attack happened on wednesday in the home he shared wth 21 Patricia Diocson granddaughter on the 2500 block of east lehigh avenue. Sources tell action news that diocson has confessed saying she did it because her grandfather was mean to her. It is 5 07 and the preliminary report on Roy Halladays deadly plane crash reveals that the former phillies pitcher was doing steep turns and flying just above the waters surface in the moments before he crashed. That does match witness accounts from the november 7th accident near tampa. Now, the plane he was in is built to handle those maneuvers as promotional video show and the ntsb did not blame the maker for that crash. They say that theyre still working on a full investigation, however, then could take up to two years. New this morning, free agent quarterback Colin Kaepernick provided an update on philadelphia Rapper Meek Mill who was sentenced to at least two years in prison for a probation violation. In philadelphia sun mixing with crowds breezy winds out of the southwest at eight to 16 Miles Per Hour a little bit less than yesterday and 59 degrees is the mild high. Well probably hit that straight up at about 3 oclock or so. Overnight tonight it also stays mild. Increasing clouds, 49 is the overnight low. But there is the chance of a little bit of late rain arriving in the overnight. By 11 oclock tonight in that fact, cecily tynan may be picking up just the very beginnings of this. Now, this model run shows a fair amount of steady rain coming through overnight right into our Early Morning show tomorrow. I dont know that the model is actually correct with this. It may not be this steady. The other thing, we are expecting this to get off the coast pretty quickly. This model takes it up until about nine, 10 oclock over at the shore. I actually think it may be gone a little sooner than that. General idea here is that rain holds off until late tonight, ends early tomorrow and if youre traveling tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon youre looking pretty good. Theyre not moving because traffic is at a standstill on the boulevard southbound youre jammed heading towards the schuylkill. We had construction on the schuylkill westbound at city avenue. It was closed to clear at 5 00 a. M. Theyre in the process of clearing. Theyre still out there now but in the meantime, they have Just Announced theyve temporarily closed this ramp from the boulevard southbound to the schuylkill westbound. It seems as if theyre in the process of clearing this late running construction and in doing so theyve halted traffic on the boulevard southbound here. So, im looking at this car right here very slowly starting to move. Well have to see if they begin to allow some traffic to get by on the boulevard southbound the offramp to the schuylkill westbound. I was in the same situation driving to work on the schuylkill westbound. They automatically halted traffic while they cleared out construction. It creates a big jam and major headaches.
