This morning on world news now, chilling new details from the Church Shooting in texas. Authorities revealing a possible motive and saying the gunman came to kill everybody worshipping inside. This, as the air force acknowledges not sharing the shooters criminal past with the fbi. Well bring you the latest from the investigation. And the fearless man who heard the shots and ran toward them. He enlisted the help of another man, chasing the shooter, even injuring hem. Hes speaking out. Plus, this drone hovering above a crowd. He fired at least 450 rounds inside the church in sutherland springs, leaving it 26 people. Including children. The air force admits it did not submit his criminal history to the fbi. Reporter Law Enforcement officials have viewed the video of the massacre. One says theres little doubt that the gunman came to the church to kill everybody in that building, period and called him a horrible monster. That stark assessment as the root was rooted in a domestic dispute, the suspect hunting his motherinlaw. She had received threatening texts from him. Reporter he showed up with a bulletproof vest and a mask with a skull pictured on it. And the evidence is mounting that for devin kelley, violence was a family affair. He was discharged from the air force in 2014 after serving a oneyear sentence for assaulting his first wife and 11 month old son. He hit the child with enough force to produce death or grievous bodily harm. They would be prohibited from possessing or purchasing firearms. Reporter and the air force admitting they failed to pass along the information that would have prevented him from obtaining the murder weapon. The air force failed to pass along that information to the fbi. Bottom line, the sale of that murder weapon should have been blocked. Pierre thomas. And the man who cut the assault short is speaking out. He heard the gunshots from his home across the street from the church. He grabbed his own weapon and ran to the church. Not even wasting time to put on shoes. He chased him to the next county with the help of another bystander, at times going more than 90 miles per hour. All i want to stress today is the people in that church, theyre friends of mine. Theyre family. And every time i heard a shot, i knew that that probably represented a life. I was scared to death. I was. I was scared for me. I was scared for every one of them, and i was scared for my own family that just lived less than a block away. Im no hero. I am not. I think my god, my lord protected me and gave me the skills to do what needed to be done. And i just wish i could have gotten there faster. But i didnt know. I didnt know what was happening. He was scared, but he was incredibly brave. The suspect was found dead in his suv after driving into a death. Willi n williford in the torso and the suspect shot himself in the head. 26 victims were remembered overnight by friends and family at a vigil in sutherland springs. The group prayed together, singing religious songs. Among the victims, eight members of the holcomb family, including three children and an unborn child. 14 people are reportedly still hospitalized, a dozen still in critical condition. I mean, they couldnt say nothing. Reporter the victims ranging from just 18 months to 77 years old. When you see babies, young children, i mean, thats what, that gets to you. Reporter police say up to 14 children in all, including pastor frank pomeroys 14 year old daughter annabelle. We lost more than belle yesterday. And one thing that gives me a sliver of encouragement is the fact that belle was surrounded yesterday by her Church Family that she loved fiercely. Reporter among them, members of a nowdecimated church youth group. Five of them are gone. Yeah. Its heartbreaking. That church is my family. And theres so many that are gone. It hurts so much. Reporter and one pastor here telling me that before they can even grin begin to grieve, theyt have to bury the dead. There are families that are facing multiple funerals, one has to bury eight of its loved ones. The community is coming together to help them pay for it. Members of the church came out singing and praying. Those prayers offered for the 26 victims of the attack and the 14 people who remain in the hospital right now. A dozen of them, we should point out, in critical condition. The ages range from 18 months to 77 years old. Nearly a third of those who died were from the same family. Lets check in with david muir. Reporter three generations of one texas family. The holcombs, Brian Holcomb was guest speaker that morning. Here together with his wife of four decades, Carla Holcomb also killed. Brian and carlas son right there on the right survived the shooting. Crystal holcomb, who was eight months pregnant did not survive. Three of their children were killed, along with is there unborn child. All in all, eight members of the same family. 5yearold ryeland, rushed to the hospital in the moments after the carnage. His aunt setting up this go fund me page. He was shot multiple times. His mother and step sisters it not survive. The volunteers and emts received eight of the victims in this e. R. Some of these victims had multiple gunshot wounds . Thats correct. Abdomen, extremities. Reporter here in this community, everyone knows about half of the victims were children. Theres been a lot of talk about how many of the victims were children. Yes. Reporter you saw some of that yourself. Yes, we did. Reporter thats not easy. Its not easy, and some of the team members will have difficulty in the long term. There have been counseling and pastoring folks to help out. Its always difficult when youre dealing with children, in these situations. But they did fantastic, they really did. The team really held together well, and i was impressed. Impressed indeed. David there, thank you. With the president out of the country, Vice President mike pence is heading to texas in the aftermath of that massacre. He will travel to sutherland springs.
