Itself. Offshore however we are getting a fringe effect from jose. First of all in the form of showers in south jersey and delaware and some light showers moving across the i 95 corridor and not real heavy rain and pockets of more moderate showers moving through and also kicking up the winds and you see the one buoy in rehoboth reporting a wind gust of 37 Miles Per Hour. And the main impact with jose is all the wave action stirring up the occasion at the center of the storm and wave heights of 26 feet and closer 11 foot waves at the shore causing beach erosion and coastal flooding and getting close to the next high tide cycle between 7 30 and 8 30 and this is when the coastal flooding will be worse. Minor coastal flooding this morning and tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow morning. Maria is a cat five and it lashed through dominica last night and heading towards st. Croix and san juan. Ill have more on that storm in the sevenday forecast. Lets check in with new jersey correspondent, nora muchanic, in ocean city. The big attraction unquestionably the ocean. Reporter jim, they should sell tickets to this, the wild waves are drawing people to the water all day long and anyone that is here to see this havent been disappointed. I think that i have never seen the ocean this powerful in all the years we are coming down. The ocean is roaring and ferocious waves. Jose is what hundreds of miles off the coast and seeing it this close and its unbelievable. I have been surfing for 57 years and this is some of the biggest ones i have seen here. Look at the waves in longport and the waves are flashing over the sea wall and taking its toll especially in ocean city. This is the beach off oftive and street. The cliffs here are higher than i am from the erosion and look here this part of the jetty here is not exposed since the 1980s. We were going down the path it was cut and we had to jump down. Because of the erosion. It literally took out the sand. Back bays are seeing turbulent water as boats bob up and down and street flooding in the usual spots sending garbage cans and their contents into the roads but people are mesmerized by the surf. Have never seen it this rough. Wave after wave. Interesting to watch and she has never seen it. Its awesome i have never seen the waves break so far out with so much mist coming off them way out there. Reporter and the show will continue long after the sun goes down, we have high tide coming up and that means more water and more erosion. Ill think well see that when jose goes away the story is all the damage that was done to jerseys beaches. Live in ocean city, nora muchanic, channel 6 action news. All right thank you. Moving to north wildwood. Jeff is there. What is the situation . Reporter jim, as nora said the high tide is still a couple of hour as way and its hard to believe if you take a look at the water here. The waves are getting larger and stronger and more ferocious and coming over the sea wall and getting them all wet taking pictures. The city is contending with major beach erosion and preparing for flooding tonight. Although hundreds of miles away jose put on quite a show for folks gathered at 2nd and jfk. High surf sent waves crashing over rocks even during low tide this afternoon. Its not this rough at all. I remember one time it was this rough. By 5 00 p. M. The waves breached the sea wall and several days of joses effects washed away the beach including here at 3rd avenue. We were trying to get sand build up on our dunes, the ocean has not receded much and little to do at this point except make sure people stay out of harms way. And Delaware Avenue there is flooded and there is concern the evening high tide will be worse and the Fire Department has high rescue vehicles ready to role in case of emergencies and residents in the back bay are taking precautions and moving vehicles to high ground. What about about the corvette . That will be in pennsylvania in an hour. Getting it out of town . Yes. The mayor points out the city could face a lot worse if jose had taken a different path. He expects minimal flooding. When the flooding goes 8 feet that could be up to 2 feet of water in the street at any given time unless the electricity goes out the folks here are used to that occasionally. We dont miss pate a need to evacuate. Reporter and back out here live you may have just seen the water breach the sea wall here. A big crowd here watching these large waves hitting the sea wall. These expected to get worse of course as we get closer to high tide. That is the very latest tonight in north wildwood. Channel 6 action news. Thank you. Northampton da says that that is the conclusion he reached after interviewing everyone that had contact with Lafayette College lacrosse player mccray williams. They told investigators while he had been drinking during the weekend of september 8th never appeared out of control or overly intoxicated and then sunday afternoon he was back in his dorm room and began to vomit and a female was with him when he got up to vomit again. She was not paying attention and she walks out of the room and hears a loud sound and turns around to look and sees mr. Williams on the ground. He continued to sleep through the following morning. Teammates described him as groggy and agitated. They decide to take williams to a doctor and call their coach who instructed them to call 911. Paramedics took the 19yearold to the hospital where he died the following day. He says in all likelihood the Blunt Force Trauma was suffered when he fell in the dorm room and the only thing the witnesses are guilty of is being unsure of cha was going on. He was semi unconscious and saying get out of here i want to sleep. It wasnt like he was unconscious even the point they took him to the hospital he was still semi conscious. You are pretty confidence about sunday . You never know. Never know. This is why i dont gamble. An opportunity to get back trying to get me in trouble . An opportunity to get back on track the eagles are presented with that as the struggles giants come to town an important matchup. One area to watch is up front. The birds wrapped up eight sacks in two games tied for fourth in the nfl and couple that with the giants awful offensive line this could be a field day for the eagles, not so fast says jim schwartz he says there are other factors. I think that will go widely reported this weeks that its an important matchup our defensive line against their offensive line. Make the quarterback hold the ball if he is running it or throwing it quick. The defensive line could be neutralized. That is about playing good defense and if we can do that we can exploit some of our better matchups into the game. The phillies started off with the dodgers on a good night. Last night they won 43 and did it by beating three time cy young winner clayton kershaw. A grand slam in the sixth inning the first grand slam kershaw as given up in his major league career. We have been playing pretty well over the last month, and getting some big hits. Altear a big hit and pitching is outstanding and the bullpen outstanding and they continue to do so and picks the guys up and everyone is full of energy and fun going down the stretch. The defense is on point as well. This is exhibit a. Rookie crawford at third base made a tremendous bare handed play last night. If the temple owls thought the Season Opener at notre dame is a tough one this conference opener will be something else. The owls will visit 20th ranked south florida and the bulls are the pick for the conference. The bulls are 30 averaging 30 points per game and their quarterback quenton flowers is a dual threat qb beating you with his arms and legs. And jeff colins is not shying away from this. He knows its a big game. They know what it means for the division and the conference but you know we minimize it down to here is what we need to do and what they do and what they do at certain positions and we have to execute and play hard and play one single play at a time. Penn state will hit the road this week, saturday night the fourth ranked Nittany Lions face iowa catch the game on 6 abc coverage begins at 7 30, penn state off a 560 over Georgia State but this game should be a little bit tighter. Cecily tynan has the late word from arc weather when we return in just a moment. You can talk about hurricane jose but as you said last night the really big story out there is maria. This is a potentially catastrophic storm. It already made one landfall and looks to have several more to go. If you look at this infrared satellite it has a well defined eye heading to st. Croix and looks like a buzz saw and strengthening through the day. Its a category five maximum sustained winds 165 Miles Per Hour. Pressure continues to drop and that is a sign that the storm continues to strengthen moving north northwest at 10 Miles Per Hour. And talk about the track and Hurricane Force winds, it looks like st. Croix in the Virgin Islands will be in the Northwest Quadrant of the storm unfortunately that is the worst as far as the wind and rain and storm surge that will be hatching later on tonight at midnight and then it looks like maria will make a beeline to puerto rico a direct hit on wednesday. After that it will begin to turn up to the north, partially because of a path carved out by hurricane jose and heading towards the turks and Caicos Islands just to the east and east of the bahamas and hopefully continue to make the turn and will make the turn out to sea next week. And in the meantime talking about jose it has been bringing showers into the south jersey region and you are getting a heavier band beginning to move in and glassboro they are all pinwheeling off the atlantic as jose continues to spin and its not a powerful storm but it is lasting a long time. Right now temperatures tell the stories, areas that saw more sunshine and warmer in lancaster, 80 degrees and philadelphia 73 down from the high of 80 an long the coast though clouds and bands of moisture, temperatures only 69 to 70 degrees, hurricane jose maximum sustained winds, 75 Miles Per Hour a category one hurricane and has been a hurricane for 12 days, the longest atlantic hurricane since francis back in 1980. It has not been powerful but has staying power and continues to move to the north none east tonight and that means any showers should be evaporating after midnight and breezy and humid 63 to 69 degrees and tomorrow a mix of clouds and sunshine and on the warm side. 84 in philadelphia and allentown 83 and cape may 80 and be careful a high risk of rip currents that continues right into the weekend as the remnants of jose continue to spin off the midatlantic. The exclusive accuweather sevenday forecast tomorrow a mixture of clouds and sunshine and 84 degrees and warm by dry for rosh hashanah.
