Word late today that jose is a hurricane again having regained strength out in the ocean about 485 miles southwest of bermuda. The big question, might jose cause us some problems next week . Meteorologist cecily tynan is keeping a close eye. Cecily whats the story so far . And jim the biggest concern with jose is still what its doing to the ocean producing large swells, the risk of rip currents on a weekend when a lot of people are going to be heading to the beach. Its going to be warm and sunny. So, this is the latest. Maximum sustained winds 75 miles per hour. Its getting more organized moving to the northwest at about 10 miles per hour. It looks like over the weekend on sunday it will start to make that turn up to the north. Now, the latest forecast track very similar to the same one we had last night keeps the center of this track about 200 miles off shore. However, we all know about that cone of uncertainty and the western edge does bring a possibility of it clipping the coast of new jersey. So if it keeps on the expected track it means that the chance of Tropical Storm force winds the best chance will be heading towards cape cod but we have about a 20 percent chance that there could be Tropical Storm force winds right along the coast if it hold on its current track. So, this is what we do know. Rough surf, rip currents will be a big problem right through the weekend into next week. Also tidal flooding possible. Still uncertain the exact track of jose and that will determine the extent of the rain and wind. More details coming up in the sevenday forecast. Jim. Cecily, thank you. Action News Reporter bob brooks is live in brigantine tonight. Bob, how are authorities there staying alert to potential jose problems . Reporter well, jim everyone is staying alert right now. Theyre keeping their eye on this. Everybody sort of talking about this storm and though we dont know the direct line of the storm just yet again everyone is asked to be patient but also be vigilant. Over the weekend waves are expected to start to get pretty big. Rip currents are expected to start forming so thats the real problem this weekend. Today at the shore we watched as the waves got bigger. Surfers who saw it love it. Families we spoke to not so much. Today theyre keeping a closer eye out. Definitely today is a little bit more choppy. Reporter seems about everyones eye is now on hurricane jose. Its looping around. Its definitely colder and definitely a little bit bad. Knock on wood. Reporter the storm is expected to crawl up the east coast. It just got upgraded into a hurricane. Before any big time actions are taken youre asked to be patient for the next 24 hours. The head of cape may Emergency Management says the next day day and a half will be telling. Well probably have a better idea by saturday night. First responders are going to be monitoring and watching, you know, for any problems along the beach. Reporter on the weekend some of the beaches down here still have lifeguards on duty so if you do want to head out into the water this weekend you find one of those beaches and theres no doubt today the waves in brigantine are a little bigger than usual. Down in sea isle more of the same. As the storm comes this group from deptford new jersey says summer is definitely over. Well not be on the beach. Temperatures dropping down into the low 70s by midnight. Ill let you know how long the warm humid air sticks around and have the latest on hurricane jose in the accuweather forecast. And a communication relic is now being removed from the pennsylvania turnpike. That and more when action news continues tonight. The Pennsylvania State government is delaying almost 2 billion in payments to medicaid insurers and school districts. Thats because the legislature has yet to come up with a way to fund the government and as long as that stalemate continues, officials expect payment delays for months. Action News Reporter john rawlins has more. Reporter this week state treasurer joe torsella said he was disinclined to green light harrisburgs budget impasse drags on. As of today schools could lose funding, universities like temple and penn state might lose state dollars and state workers including police, state park staff and others might halt some operations. That might have been a risk in the past but not now. That is no longer the case. As a result of certain litigation employees must continue to work. Reporter Steve Crawford heads Government Relations a one time chief of staff of governor ed rendell told us the average pennsylvanian. Out there just trying to deal with their Family Vacations and kids and school and things like that dont necessarily feel the pinch that they would have felt a number of years ago as a result of a budget impasse. Reporter he says that kind of pinch could occur down the road but not at this point. So pennsylvania government for now chugs on no shutdown but the governor did take some steps today to delay some big money payments. There are large payments that the governor could delay payments to managed care organizations, for instance, or payments to retirement systems. Reporter which is exactly what Governor Wolf announced delaying more than a billion dollars in medicaid money to wellknown benefit managers or gate keepers. They will likely have to borrow to fill the gap. Wolf is also delaying for now more than a half billion earmarked for the state teachers pension fund. Short term todays action should create little pain but long term crawford says if harrisburg does not correct its structural deficit it will cost. The commonwealth will have to pay more for its lower bond ratings, pay more for financing and at the end of the day that does come back and bite the average taxpayer. Reporter john rawlins channel6 action news. They are relics from a way of communicating long ago. The pennsylvania turnpike isnd getting rid of those bright yello emergency call boxes. As far as the eagles running game they have to be better sunday in kansas city against the chiefs. Eagles averaged only 2. 4 yards per carry in washington. Eaglederson says its not good enough. It takes a little bit of time, you know, more than one game, you know, and, you know, we just got to be a littleit more consistent with sticking with the run a little bit more so well see how things go. Doug obviously hes made it a priority and hes told us that we want to get the run game more so we definitely have to do t for rhys hoskins smashing records at an historical rate. 18 homers and 39 runs batted most ever this early into a baseball career. The phillieskie is add to that tonight against the oakland as. Everyone wants hoskins au how about cam perkins trying to get a ball signe dugout. Hoskins is not the only red hot Nick Williams hitting. 300 quietl rookies in baseball, too. These two are a big reason the phillies are the best hitting team in baseball since the allstar break. Feels great. You can see it. Theres a spark of energy that entered our lineup and we added the two guys williams and hoskins and theyve really provided a real once again a spntire team. It lengthens out the lineup. Everybody is competing. Theyre responding and playing with a lot more energy. Theyre no longer the worst team in baseball. After another long offon without a trip to the playoffs the flyers want to make sure recent history doesnt repeat. Flyers open Training Camp in voorhees. Dave hakstol and the flyers back on the ice. Sky6 taking a look over the Commodore Barry bridge where we also have blue skies and sunshine and yes, this is our last weekend of summer. Fall officially arrives next friday only seven days away but in the meantime, it definitely still feels like summer. Temperatures running 6 degrees above normal. Currently philadelphia 83. Allentown has dropped down to 71 degrees. A few showers up there. Wilmington 81 and cape may currently 76. So double scan live showing a scattering of some showers across the Lehigh Valley beginning to sink down to the south. We had some near bethlehem and allentown and there you go, near macungie right now south of 222. Once the sun sets shortly after 7 oclock all of this will just completely peter out. The reason why, were seeing some of those showers out there, weve got the buildup of heat and humidity so satellite and radar showing started the day with sunshine with the clouds building up in the afternoon. We keep this warm humid air mass right into the weekend and into next week. Tomorrow, you like today youll like tomorrow. Mixture of clouds and sunshine. By 8 oclock already 70 degrees. By 2 oclock 82. 5 oclock 84. Could get an isolated shower but i think most areas will be rain free and if youre heading to the beach, the ocean temperature is 74 degrees but do be careful with jose lurking offshore there will be a moderate risk of rip currents but on the beaches pretty nice weather. Mix of sun and clouds 78 degrees and sunday partly sunny with a high of 77. So jose is now officially a hurricane again. Its moving to the northwest at about 10 miles per hour. I think my weather computer has logged off so i can actually just tell you about this storm. Looks like it will begin to make a turn up to the north as we head through sunday and with that track it would be about 200 miles off our shore. So what that would mean, could get some breezy conditions down the shore. Could be clipped with a little bit of light rain but really i think the big problem with jose like the weekend would be that moderate risk of rip currents. So the exclusive accuweather 7day forecast for your saturday mixture of clouds and sunshine with a high of 84 degrees. On sunday, it stays warm and humid with a high of 83. Monday increasing clouds as jose begins to get closer, 80 degrees and tuesday calling for breezy conditions, mostly cloudy, again if jose makes that jog to the west could get some rain developing at this point calling for a dry day. 77 degrees. Behind that system on wednesday, morning clouds break for afternoon sunshine for Rosh Hashanah with a high of 82. Thursday our last official day of summer, it will be warm, 84 degrees, partly sunny and friday when fall arrives some sunshine with a high of 79 degrees. We do get an update from the National Hurricane center on hurricane jose at 11 oclock. Ill have new information also. See if that track shifts a little bit to the west or a little bit to the east, something im definitely watching. Too close for comfort. Did you have a good summer . I did but it was too short. Oh. Used to be like three months longer. I thought it was too long. [laughter] no way. Lets get on with it. No i agree. I agree. Abcs world news tonight with david muir next on channel6.
