What that means, if that track verifies, the worst of the storm would be staying out to sea. This shows the chance of Tropical Storm force winds. Those are winds more than 39 miles per hour. And it shows the best chance getting closer to cape cod. As we zoom in in our region you can see that shade of green. Thats a 20 percent chance of Tropical Storm force winds. So, if this track holds, we have a 20 percent chance of those winds along the coast. So, again, that would keep the strongest part of the storm out to sea. So, this is what we know. Jose will be bringing rough surf, rip currents through the weekend. Its next week. A big concern for beach erosion and tidal flooding. Still uncertain the exact track along the coast and that would really determine any extent of rain or wind. Ill have more details coming up in the full accuweather forecast. Sharrie. Cecily thank you. Our Team Coverage continues with action News Reporter bob brooks. Bob is live in brigantine with how people down the shore are preparing for any potential effects from jose. Bob. Reporter well, sharrie, its sort of just await and see game right now down here at the shore. We dont exactly know what the path of jose is going to be but one thing like cecily was saying we cant guarantee some big waves and strong currents out there. Behind me there on the beach you can already see the waves. Ive been watching them throughout the day. Theyre getting bigger and bigger. You can see one breaking right now and those are expected to get even bigger throughout the weekend. You have to be envious of those still soaking up the sun but as they do tword of another big storm threatening the east coast is starting to spread. Looping around. Its definitely colder and a little bit bigger. Knock on wood. Reporter right now that storm is jose. Its unclear what the exact path will be. Cape may county head of Emergency Management says well get a better idea this weekend. Probably have a better idea by saturday night. Reporter one thing he can guarantee is some big surf and rip currents with most beach patrols closed for the summer he says thats where the real danger lies but theyll be prepared. First responders are going to be monitoring and watching, you know, for any problems along the beach. Reporter on the weekend some of the beaches down here still have lifeguards on duty so if you do want to head out into the water this weekend, you find one of those beaches. Today the waves in brigantine a little bigger than usual. That has families taking a little more precaution. Definitely today is a little bit more choppy. Reporter in sea isle the same. We noticed a few surfers out. The summer is definitely over. We will not be on the beach. Reporter their strategy is keeping an eye on things with action news. We had to raise our house. We were hit. Good luck to everybody in houston and florida. God help those people. Reporter great to see people out enjoying these last few days but thats another look out there right into the water. The waves are getting bigger and bigger and though we dont know the path of what jose, what it exactly will be, we do know the surf is going to get rough so keep that in mind. New at 5 00 tonight Temple University police are trying to figure out if an incident on campus was racially motivated. It has to do with what was left outside of a dorm room where several africanamerican students live. Gray hall is live at temple with the full story. Gray. Reporter rick i can tell you the director of residential life says there have been several cases of inappropriate and discriminatory behavior. The university of course taking this issue very serious. They say the Temple University Police Department is involved and those students involved in this could face criminal charges. For some this may just be a picture of a banana sitting on a door handle but for Temple University student halle and Madison Brown who live behind that dorm room door where the banana was placed. Its more. They say it is a hateful display of graceful. People call black people monkeys. Racist and ignorant. What else were the only black full black rooms. Why else. Reporter the roommates say they discovered that banana on their dorm room door. There are other africanamericans living on their floor. Theyre not sure why they were targeted but say they dont believe this was just a prank. I didnt think it would happen to me but at the same time im not surprised because im a minority and things like this happen at predominantly white institutions. Reporter Temple University sent out this statement condemning the act and stressing that the university does not tolerate discrimination. The statement goes on to say police are investigating to see if the act was racially motivated. Its really temple is supposed to be a diverse place and like open to so many people and cultures. Reporter tyrell mann barns is the student body president. He says hes never seen anything like this but says he hopes its a teaching moment. I think it is possible someone could have put that there and not understood the cultural context but i think theres still a responsibility to learn why someone would take that the way holly and her roommate did. Reporter the students say they want to bring attention to this offensive act but hope their story will be a reason for students to unite. Keep doing what youre doing. Get your education. They are sharing their stories through art which you can view in the Municipal Services building. Mayor jim kenney says our citys diversity is what makes us stronger. All right. Friday night. Lets get a check of our action news traffic report for you now. All right, lets go live to matt pelman in the action News Traffic Center this friday. Hey, matt. Hey rick and sharrie. Re. As soon as we get rid of one problem another one crops up in pretty much exactly the same spot. Earlier we had a bad crash on the Commodore Barry bridge. Cleared out. Now theres another crash on 95 northbound right at the barry bridge. So, northbound side locked up once again from namaans road up to that that scene right by the exit for the bridge where one lane is blocked. On the southbound side had some Police Activity right at the barry bridge as well. This is off to the side but still attracting some attention so coming southbound youre getting extra slow speeds in the teens just past the airport. At the walt whitman bridge we had an earlier crash on 42 southbound just off the bridge. Cleared. Now theres another one in pretty much exactly the same spot and a broken down vehicle on the bridge itself as you head into new jersey. Bottom line is if you can, use the ben franklin or betsy ross bridges and not the commodore or the walt whitman. 95 northbound past cottman still have this crash in the left lane causing slowing but at least the pennsylvania turnpike eastbound just reopened but its still jammed because of the earlier crash there. Well check it again, rick and sharrie, in the next half hour. All right, see you then. Thank you, matt. Much more still ahead on action news at 5 00 tonight. Health and Human Services secretary tom price visited the mirmont treatment center. He was joined by Kellyanne Conway counselor to President Trump this all on todays visit. In health check its common for parents to want to take their kids down slides on the playground but some doctors say that practice is a slippery slope to injury. Health reporter im sorry, sharrie. Go ahead. Ali gorman joins us at the big board with those details tonight. Ali. Hey, guys, yeah, and this is something i think not a lot of people would think of. The biggest danger seems to be sliding down when apparent has a toddler on your lap and then their foot catches the surface. Researchers from the university of iowa say hundreds of thousands of kids have been hurt on slides over the last decade. Some suffering a fractured lower leg. The highest risk is for toddlers between 12 and 23 months. The researchers tell parents to not go down the slide with kids on your lap. If you do, make sure the childs foot doesnt catch. Theres more evidence encouraging us to keep moving. Weve heard too much sitting is bad. But a new study shows its not just the total time but how it accumulates. They found adults who sit for one to two hours at one time without moving have a higher death rate than those who get the same amount of time but in shorter bouts and it also shows people who sit for less than 30 minutes at a time had the lowest death rate. So, just taking a walk around the office twice an hour could improve your health. Also today is National Concussion Awareness day. Prevention efforts and detecting problems have gotten better but there are still some misconceptions. Experts remind parts of athletes that symptoms may not show up right after impact. They usually peak within the first few hours or so but they can be delayed in onset so an athlete that has a concussion during the game may not know it until they go home and may feel a little bit off or the next day when they go to school and realize theyre not functioning as well as they have in the past. The symptoms like headaches, dizziness or sleeping problems can last anywhere from 10 to 14 days. Athetes should be kept out of play until they are fully recovered and cleared by a doctor. So, that was one misconception. Another misconception is that newly designed helmets can prevent concussions. The doctor says helmets can help but there is no helmet that has been proven to prevent concussions. So you just dont want to have that false sense of security, rick and sharrie. Good point.
