What was Hurricane Harvey continues to pummel texas paralyzing the greater houston area as the storm regains a bit of strength in the gulf of mexico. President trump will visit Corpus Christi and austin today and he says he may return by the weekend. In washington yesterday the president praised texans for their resilience during the disaster. Weve pledged our full support as texas and louisiana battle and recover from this very devastating and historic storm. Now that harvey is moving in the gulf, the situation has grown more serious in southwestern louisiana. This is new video of evacuations under way in lake charles. Riebel says they have never seen so much rain. The flood waters have not reached the couples third floor apartment, a the least not yet. In terms of a prolonged event like this ive never experienced anything like this. The street that leads up to 45 was just littered with vehicles that had broken down. There is debris, mud, deceased animals all over the roadways. Riebel says their years of experiencing snowstorms and blizzards in south jersey instincts tiffly made them stock up on plenty of food and water. Katherine. Reporter matt and jeanette, two more red cross volunteers are leaving from this chapter today. This chapter has already sent 10 down south and more are expected in the coming weeks. Today more volunteers from the eastern pennsylvania chapter of the American Red Cross will be headed south to help with relief efforts in texas. Theyll leave in a Emergency Response vehicle and head for a staging area in louisiana before being assigned to an affected area. The damage from harvey is severe. The need is great. For those who want to give something, the red cross suggests donating money or blood, not tangible items yet. Those things have to be cleaned, sorted and shipped. Saint Huberts Animal Welfare Center mobilized its sister shelter transport program. This morning theyll welcome at least 100 shelter dogs from texas to their madison, new jersey, campus. After the dogs eat and rest, many of the animals will be transferred to partners along the northeast corridor including shelters in our area. This helps provide capacity for animals displaced by the storm. And the Salvation Army in our area is also sending volunteers.
