Consumer reports is raising some concerns about ground beef tonight. Health reporter and registered nurse ali gorman has a look at their latest study. If you cook ground beef as directed youll be fine but under cooked meat can make you sick especially if it contains high amounts of bacteria. Thats what Consumer Reports is concerned about. The hamburger youre grilling could contain harmful bacteria and unless you cook it thoroughly, it could make you sick Consumer Reports tested 300 packages of ground beef purchased in Stores Across the country. More than 40 percent contained staph bacteria. And almost 20 percent contained another bacteria linked to nearly 1 million cases of Food Poisoning each year and a significant amount had super bug, bacteria thats resistant to three or more classes of antibiotics. Consumer reports blames those levels on the overuse of antibiotics on cattle farms. That practice can lead to the creation of antibiotic resistant bacteria, a Major Public Health problem. If you get sick from these bugs, your infections can be difficult to treat. But tests also revealed some good news. Ground beef from cows which are grass fed and raised without antibiotics were three times less likely to have super bug bacteria. This study is significant because its among the largest scientific studies to show that sustainable methods of raising cattle can produce cleaner and safer ground beef. So when you shop foreground beef Consumer Reports recommends choosing meat labeled as no antibiotics, grass fed or organic. Even better is meat thats both grass fed and organic because its the least likely to have bacteria. And no matter what kind of beef you buy, Consumer Reports reminds you to cook it to 160 degrees fahrenheit so the bacteria will be killed. And its best to use a meat thermometer. Dont just try to guess the temperature. Consumer reports also says that sustainably raised beef is becoming more widely available. Its not just at natural and organic food stores. Many mainstream supermarkets also now carry it. Rick and monica, back over to you. Okay,. Thank you so much. A couple of downpours in the western suburbs right now, mainly through Lancaster County, you can see not a lot of lightning with these storms. The worst of it is still over york right now, south and west of elizabeth, not severe at this point, 13 lightning strikes. Downtown lancaster on the verge of seeing a few sprinkles. These are dying off as theyre pushing in but anyone is fair game especially west of philadelphia seeing a quick hitting downpour or thunderstorms as a cold front passes through. Right now 88 degrees if philadelphia. Thats the high so far for the day, 85 in the Lehigh Valley as well as trenton and a bit of a sea breeze with that southeasterly wind right now 82 in beach haven and 80 degrees in cape may. As we look at satellite and radar, heres the cold front to the west. Again, not a lot of action along with it so its very isolated that as that front boggy progresses through overnight tonight but drier air to the west of that with respect to the cloud cover and also the humidity. So, future tracker at 8 oclock tonight, you can see again a couple of those downpours or quick hitting thunderstorms approaching philadelphia, not everyone is going to see it. In fact most of us will stay dry tonight. 1 oclock in the morning it approaches philadelphia, wilmington in a broken fashion and then it begins to push off the coast at 7 oclock tomorrow morning as you can see the clouds breaking up west of the city. So for tonight its warm, its very oppressive. Upper 60s to near 70 degrees with a downpour or a thunderstorm around. But the big difference will be those dewpoints. Around 2 30 in the morning, it will be very stuffy out there with dewpoints in the upper 60s to low 70s. But as that cold front approaches, 9 oclock tomorrow morning it is still very humid south and east. There you can see the drier air with the dewpoints dropping into the lower 60s and by tomorrow afternoon, everyone, even the shore dropping into the 50s where youre going to feel that big difference when you step outside. So your five day at 5 00 its warm, its less humid tomorrow with returning sun from west to east at 86. And then wednesday, thursday, friday, beautiful sunshine in control, low 80s for highs, low humidity and then we begin to warm it back up over the weekend. 88 degrees. But the humidity will stay on the low side for your saturday but then that changes on sunday. Well let you know if there are any more 90degree days in that seven day coming up in the next half hour, guys. Thank you so much. Thanks adam. A near perfect week coming our way. We love it. A little blip with a couple downpours. Through the rest of the week were smooth sailing. Double scan live radar shows most of the area at this time is dry and will remain dry this evening and overnight but there will be a few communities that will get hit by a quick downpour or a thunderstorm. You can see a couple of them peppered through the Lancaster County area especially between lancaster and york, pretty nasty thunderstorm here, 62 lightning strikes on the border there, the county border. Nothing severe at this point and a little downpour as you lift north and west of lincoln and a couple kind of splitting near berks county but all this pushing to the east and as weve been watching them move in from the east they have weakened quite a bit so again it will be very scattered here this evening. We have a wind coming in offer of the ocean. Right now weve got a sea breeze going in. Margate 80 degrees. Inlands temperatures move upward. 88 in philadelphia, 84 wilmington, 84 in millville and north and west allentown coming in at 85 degrees. So far for today in philadelphia, 88 degrees. Thats above average. And coming off of what has been a very hot august, temperatures running close to two and a half degrees above normal and weve had plenty of 90degree days especially in the city of philadelphia. Typically throughout the entire year statistically we only see 27 days of 90 or above. The summer is not over yet and weve already hit 28 days. Trenton 20 but far less Atlantic City allentown wilmington only 11 days so far this year of 90 or above. This is a cold front moving in from the west and thats a separation of the humid air we have today and very dry air to the west. That will pretty much plant itself here tuesday and beyond. So for tonight its very maggie, cloudy with an isolated downpour or shower, split in temperatures 74 to 70. The front heads off the coast here on tuesday, were drying out with that humidity dropping and the sunshine returning from the west to the east pretty quickly in the morning of 86 and then were sandwiched between this fronts off the coast an trough to the west where the clouds and showers will be. Beautiful day on wednesday, 84 degrees and in fact, as we take a look at the percentages for rain here as it goes through the rest of the week a 20s percent chance early tomorrow morning east of philadelphia with that front and then wednesday through the beginning of the weekend 0 percent chance, even though we desperately need rain, whoosh close to 2inches below normal for the monthing august. The sevenday forecast it is warm but less humid on tuesday 86. Again wednesday, thursday, friday, beautiful, pleasant nice, however you want to put it, low 80s for highs and then we warm it back up over the weekend. 88 on saturday and that humidity will come back sunday and monday as we once again go above normal and close to 90 degrees as we rounds out the month of august here.
