Yeah, george, it is hard to believe but i am down here as we approach the tenyear mark since Hurricane Katrina and last night, we held a special screening of the abc special that will be shown sunday night, katrina ten years after the storm. Its not a celebration of what happened ten years ago but a celebration of the human spirit, perseverance and hope. First to those deadly fires out west. Winds picking up in washington. The fire forcing more than a thousand to evacuate and Neal Karlinsky is in Washington State with the very latest on all this. Good morning, neal. Reporter amy, good morning. Such a tragedy in this tightknit firefighting community. This fire spread so fast, weve actually been caught out and spent our night in the car unable to go further. Three Communities Just down the way here quickly evacuated by the fastmoving flames. What one fire official called a hell storm. The three firefighters killed battling a blaze in central washington, four others injured when winds shifted unexpectedly turning back on the crews battling the blaze. Fire overtaking their vehicle. It was a hell storm up here, and the winds were blowing in every direction. Reporter that fire began is over 50 acres and quickly spread to over 1500 acres. Lose your life fighting fire is horrible. Reporter at least 1,000 residents of twisp and winthrop, washington, ordered to leave their homes. Fire so intense across washington this week, black hawk helicopters and the National Guard called in to help. Past ten hours were up here. Its hot, you know, getting blisters on our heels. Reporter near livermore, california, east of oakland plumes of smoke seen for miles around. Air tankers being used to help try to contain the growing fire. Reporter good morning, amy. The 90yearold jimmy carter is an incredibly active former president who continues to travel the world doing humanitarian work. Later this morning here at the Carter Center he will speak only for the first time about that cancer diagnosis revealed just last week. Just days ago, jimmy carter did what he does most sundays, he went to church in his hometown of plains, georgia, and attended bible study. It was his first public appearance since he told the world last week recent liver surgery revealed that i have cancer that now is in other parts of my body. Carter has not yet revealed the specifics of his cancer but his father and all three of his siblings died of pancreatic cancer. My name is jimmy carter and im running for president. Reporter the peanut farmer turned president whose four years in office were marred by an Energy Shortage and iranian hostage crisis has redefined what it means to be a former president. He was so close to getting out of this prison he could probably taste it but for the family of reeva steenkamp, this is justice. This morning, pistorius lawyers desperate to overturn his reversal, now delayed indefinitely. Pistorius had been set to leave jail tomorrow paroled after only ten months of his fiveyear prison sentence and serve the rest of his time on house arrest at his uncles mansion but south africas Justice Department ruling the june decision to release pistorius was made prematurely when the offender was not eligible to be considered at all. Not guilty and is discharged, instead hes found guilty of culpable homicide. Reporter pistorius found guilty of manslaughter for negligently firing into his bathroom door valentines day 2013 killing then girlfriend reeva steenkamp. Wednesday steenkamps friends and family remembering her on what would have been her 32nd birthday and welcoming pistorius reversal of fortune. Subways former spokesman pleading guilty to producing child porn and paying for sex with minors and could face up to 12 years in prison and now the woman who tipped off the fbi is speaking out exclusively to abc news and abcs alex perez is on the case in indianapolis. The millionaire pitchmans attorney saying fogle will plead guilty in a deal that could put him behind bars for 5 to 12 years. This is about using wealth, status and secrecy to illegally exploit children. Reporter Court Documents say from 2007 to june of this year fogle used the internet to allegedly arrange and travel to new york city to meet and have sex with underage girls and received and distributed child pornography. Prosecutors say fogle has agreed to pay 100,000 each to 14 victims. He will fully and completely acknowledge his responsibility for his wrongdoing. Reporter Rochelle Herman says she went to the authorities claiming he made inappropriate comments to her about middle schoolgirls. I was shocked. I was stunned. I couldnt believe what i just heard. Reporter overnight, herman says she worked under cover with the fbi for 4 1 2 years wearing a wire and secretly recording conversations with fogle. The fbi has not confirmed her account. He would tell me the ages that he was interested in, boy or girl. And he would also indicate the fact that he has done it before. Reporter herman says shes still worried about the victims. Those children suffer. Those childrens lives have changed forever. Reporter and we did reach out to fogle and his attorney for comment on her account, but we did not hear back. George. Violent protests after police shot and killed a black teenager. Officers used tear gas on demonstrators. The cops say they were throwing bottles and bricks at them. A building and car were set on fire. It all happened after police opened fire on an 18yearold who allegedly pointed a gun at them while they were serving a search warrant. This latest unrest comes on the heels of clashes marking the oneyear anniversary of the death of Michael Brown in nearby ferguson. Newly released video shows the exact moment when that motel 6 near seattle exploded. A gas leak is to blame. His 16yearold accuser testifying for a second day that labrie raped her last year when she was 15 in a room at their elite boarding school in New Hampshire. The girl saying she sometimes thought it was her fault. Were disguising her voice. I didnt kick or scream or really push. I didnt but i did say no. I said no three times. Reporter the prosecution showing in court an invitation labrie had sent the girl for the socalled senior salute. A tradition at st. Pauls school where some graduating male students would invite younger girls to spend time alone with them. Sometimes intimately. I didnt want him boasting to his friends. And this message after the alleged rape, labrie writing, youre an angel. She reply, youre quite an angel yourself. I was afraid of him coming after me again. Reporter according to police bray whos been arrested on suspicion of computer tampering used a burner app on his cell phone allegedly to trick the competing Bounty Hunters into raiding the wrong home. We have met many heroes while covering Hurricane Katrina. From the mississippi man who risked his life pulling more than a dozen strangers to safety in his tiny boat. I had to do something. I wasnt going to leave them there. Reporter to celebrities who helped the region regain its glory. We love our culture and we will always fight to keep what makes new orleans great alive. I think keeping those memories and those visions close to your heart is what makes you feel like youre playing for a lot more than just to win a football game. Reporter the survivors of katrina all have dramatic stories. The things that happened from the hurricane has made me stronger. Reporter but it was this woman who honored us with her trust by opening up for the first time with a harrowing tale that took ten years to tell. We saw the water coming, the cars and floating and everything and the water was almost up to scenic drive and it was like, oh, this is serious. Reporter diane and tony brugger did not evacuate from harbor oaks the iphone they restored in my hometown of Pass Christian, mississippi. As the waters continued to rise tornadoes touched down. One of which hit the bruggers home full on. We were sitting in sitting in the bed and the dogs were just going crazy and the house, youd feel it sort of, you know, like a lift up like a boat and then settle back and lift up like a boat and we just looked at each other and i saw a weird acceptance in his eyes that really a nerve in me where he almost was acknowledging that this was it and i didnt understand i understood it but i didnt accept it and but we said nothing. Y we just held hands and looked at each and then when the house went oop, it didnt quite go back down the way it was supposed to and we all got up and thats when the walls fell away, when the ceiling came down. The lawsuit filed against Business Management firm Tanner Mainstain says they failed to pay the invoice for her Health Insurance which she had through the screen actors guild. She couldnt get insurance until the 2015 enrollment opened after which she did go to the doctor and found out that she had Breast Cancer and that it had spread during last year when she was uninsured. Reporter the lawsuit also claiming had she been insured and able to visit her doctor the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for future treatment including mastectomy and chemotherapy that plaintiff will likely have to suffer through now. I think the biggest challenge shannen will have in this lawsuit is linking her cancer, her need for treatment, any claims of delayed treatment to the actions of her Business Managers with respect to these insurance payments. Reporter in a statement to abc news Tanner Mainstain says while the company is saddened to learn that miss doherty is suffering from cancer, the claim that Tanner Mainstain caused her to be uninsured, prevented her from seeking medical care or somehow contributed to her cancer is patently false. Now, we dont even know if theyre going to concede that they were responsible for paying this. Theres a lot of questions that still need to be answered but even if you assume everything shes saying is true which is they were supposed to pay it, they didnt pay it, as a result, i wasnt able to get back enrolled until 2015, even if all of that is true, it still is really hard to link legally her cancer the advanced stage of her cancer. Exactly with their actions. Is this arrangement typical in hollywood where you have Money Managers dealing with insurance . You know, you also have lawyers, Money Managers, if youre a successful actor in hollywood, you tend to get a terrible deal when you do these sorts of arrangements. Now, some of the lawyers out there and managers will disagree with me but tends to be a terrible deal which is they take a cut of all your money and they say youll handle this for me and handle that for me when if you got people to do it individually it would be a lot cheaper but this is a very typical relationship that you see with successful actors and actresses in hollywood, but the question becomes exactly what were think expected to do . And seeing how we couldnt get to vegas, you brought vegas to us and brought three dishes starting with a very delicious skirt steak. So we have a skirt steak and, again, some fun drilling tips so a skirt steak and did a variety of spices. We have this is called dukkah. Hazelnut, sesame seeds, black pepper, salt and white pepper and well make a flatbread and throw it right on the grill. This is a yogurtbased flatbread. So youre grilling the bread to bake it. Grill the bread to bake it. While that grills we can go ahead and put a steak on. And how long did you put the rub on . The rub, you put it on for about you can do it about 12 hours before. Oh. And it holds it mix it all with olive oil. While that grills. Okay. We have one we grilled already and, again, this is just kind of a fun play on some good mediterranean flavors so we have the steak which we grilled and weve sliced. And the homemade one with hummus. Homemade flatbread and we put the hummus as a spread on it and then we can you can just kind of put your steak on there. And then we have pickled vegetables. Those look good. Tomatoes, cucumbers. Radish. And then i always wondered how much meat. Three pieces would be appropriate. I think id overtough mine. Yeah, you kind of want to go light on the amount of garnishes but a lot of pickled garnishes and then some fresh herbs. Nice. What kind of herbs are those . Parsley and then this is harisa with yogurt. Yogurt with a little harisa to give it a little spice. Are you guys trying it down there. Waiting for the show so we can eat. Youre totally grilling that. That happens fast. The breadable coos really quick. Should we do a turkey burger. So this is a great you know, the steak is a nice sandwich thats easy to eat but theres also a turkey burger with avocado and then theres some grilled pork chops, as well, with a peach really good. So pork and peaches. Tell me how you put those two combos together. You know, again, pork is a little fattier so when you grill it, its kind of nice to balance it out with Something Sweet and acidic and peaches especially in the summertime. Peaches and beer.
