It happened on the beach near schillinger avenue at about 10 00 oclock this morning, and it was local beach patrol that saved the day. Reporter hi, walter, life guard had just wrapped up their preshift daily cpr training when they got the call that family was in trouble. That practice from just minutes earlier then put to the test. Watch the tram car Police Report report day end with fun on the wildwood boardwalk but it began with scary moments on the beach a family of four, caught in the rip current and the life guard werent yet on duty. I saw a woman coming up screaming for help. I didnt understand what was going on. Reporter beach goers were swimming as life guard were taking their stands just before 10 00 a. M. There were three people in distress. I blew my which is toll notify other guard. Reporter guard from the Wildwood Beach patrol rushed in the water and rescued one female and three male swimmers, all members of the one family. One was unconscious. We assessed the situation there was no time to delay. We started cpr right away. About 302nd later we went in and a he showed no signs of life. Reporter when he returned to patrol headquarters john got a heros welcome from his fellow guard for administering the the cpr that saved the mans life. It was more or less an adrenaline boost there. A lot of training kicked in every day. We go over it every day. Reporter head of the patrol said the family was lucky and points out incident under scores the the dangers of swimming in the ocean when life guard are not on duty. Life guards use preventive measures to keep the people safe in safe areas. When they are not there it is risky. Reporter the family was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center for evaluation. Police have not released their names or conditions but beach patrol tells us they think they will be okay. Authorities say that the child was pulled from the water and then taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and no word on the childs condition tonight, but authorities do tell us that the youngster is expected to fully recover.
