A Good Samaritan frantically trying to break a window to save a child or an animal trapped in a hot car and if two local lawmakers get their way its an act that would be protected by law. Action News Reporter john rawlins joins us live from eddystone with more on the bill designed to give civil immunity to those who step in to save a life. Reporter hi, sharrie. How are you doing . Most of us understand that on a sunny day in the summer like this that the insides of a car like the ones parked behind me here can get very hot 120 130 140 degrees. Weve all seen those videos of people trying to rescue people out of those cars. Now lawmakers in two states trying to help those Good Samaritans. Cars baking in the sun interior temperatures soaring. A child left inside a recipe for disaster. Nationally on average more than 30 times a year children die of vehicular heat stroke. This summer a spate of rescues by police and sit tense breaking glass saving kids. So what would you do . New mom becky along with son theodore. I would absolutely break in the window and i would hope someone would do the same if i accidentally left my son locked in. I would probably call 911. I dont know that i would want to break into somebodys car. First i would look around and see if there was a parent close. If not then immediately 911 and if it seemed like they were in distress break the window. Reporter dave carruth of a similar mind but wondered out loud. I would think about that but todays day and age even though you try do something heroic someone might come up and say you broke my window im suing you. Reporter sued to break a car window to save a child are you kidding . No. Which is why lawmakers in trenton and harrisburg are considering extending Good Samaritan protection normally reserved for people using first aid or rescuing someone at an accident scene. This bill establishes that that individual, that citizen that goes to the aid of a child in distress would have civil immunity as an extension of the Good Samaritan statute. Theres been reports in other states where people have been charged by an owner for vandalizeed or other concerns. Reporter here in Delaware County republican state senator taking the lead. A democratic assemblymen in new jersey. Some differences in the approaches in the two states. Near pennsylvania the focus solely on those folks who are rescuing children from a hot car. In new jersey, it includes pets as well. Also in new jersey it appears as if the Good Samaritan is to contact 911 to explain their actions to authorities. Thats the situation right now. Both of those now will become possible amendments in the coming months in the two various state houses. Live in eddystone, john rawlins channel6 action news. John thanks very much. Utterly unconscionable that anybody would sue somebody trying to save a life. Speaking of heat going to become a real danger again in the next couple days. Yes. Even on days when you have low humidity the suns rays are still strong. Its not going to take much to heat up the inside of a car like an oven but that humidity and the combination of the heat does come back the second half of the weekend. As we take a look at sky6 right now live from Temple University over the center city skyline and north broad street there all aglow just a few puffy cumulus clouds again, feeling very comfortable out especially at the shore on sky6 in atlantic city. You can see many folks there getting their feet in the sand and getting them a little wet and riding the waivers. The camera bouncing a little bit because of the sea breeze thats kicked in so temperatures there even cooler than they are inland. And if youre heading to a backyard pool or a barbecue tomorrow wear the sunscreen because a lot of sun sunny nice warm, still low humidity. Noontime temperatures 83 and by the middle to late afternoon, a High Temperature close to 88 degrees. Some say yes. Whats behind the shindig many are calling shady. Plus, their toddler had a melt down in the middle of the meal, so why were other diners thanking his parents . Well explain the strange response in big talkers. And meteorologist adam Joseph Standing by with that full accuweather forecast, sevenday forecast more on the return of the heat coming up on this friday afternoon. Iran keeps their nuclear facilities. Military sites can go uninspected. Restrictions end after 10 years. Then iran could build a Nuclear Weapon in two months. Iran has violated 20 International Agreements and is the leading state sponsor of terrorism. Over at the big board with big talkers. Well get started with a rather mysterious invitation some are calling well, shady from former eagles leshawn shady mccoy to the people of philadelphia or should we just say some of the people of philadelphia . Mccoy posted this photo to instagram yesterday inviting women to a private ladies only party on sunday. But in order to be considered, females must send a photo of themselves and a link to their social media account. If chosen the lucky ladies will then reportedly be told the secret location. Given their quote attire for the evening and be told to sign a confidentiality agreement. Now in case youre wondering mccoys new team did make him take that Instagram Post down but not because they thought this whole thing was creepy which frankly it sounds, they had a problem with the running back using the Buffalo Bills logo to advertise that party. Well keep you posted. So remember that Restaurant Owner in maine who made National Headlines this week for yelling at a fussy child . Well, another restaurant had a very different response to a crying baby. The family was on vacation in North Carolina this week. They went out to dinner when their twoyearold ian had a fullfledged melt down screaming and all. His mom immediately took him outside until he calmed down. Then when he started crying again his dad took him out. Deciding they had had enough they asked for the check only to find out it had already been paid. And i said what, youre kidding . Why would they do that . He said they just really admired how we had handled the situation, got him out of the restaurant and not having to put the other people in the restaurant through a tantrum. Now the waiter also said everybody felt frankly a little sorry for that family which was trying to enjoy their vacation. They thought that picking up the tab might make a tough night out a little bit more enjoyable. The cover of next months womens running magazine wont look a lot like its past issues or like covers of most fitness magazines for that matter. Why . It features plus sized model and real life runner erica shane. The 18yearold was initially supposed to be part on a story of plus size athletic lines but they were so pleased with shank they made her the cover model. Its not just the editors who are loving her. People are flooding social media to celebrate this choice saying that shank is helping to disspell the myth that women with curves cant and should not run. Now, shanks message running is for everybody every body. Pretty good stuff. Tearing down the stereotype for sure. Brian, thanks. Okay, time to get another check of the roads out there. Its friday. People have places to be matt pelman. How is it coming . Traffic is running slowly on the way to those places, sharrie. Not sure that people are going to love this but as you head northbound on 95 here at the girard point bridge kind of a slow go from past the airport through point up and over the double decker bridge past broad street up to the walt whitman bridge. Traffic remains heavy across the eastbound span of the walt onto 42 southbound. Then remains heavy through this point at creek road passing 55 on down toward the a. C. Expressway. But you should be used to this. Its a summertime friday afternoon. A lot of people are headed down the shore and northbound on 42 starting to back up head towards 295. If youre headed for the ben franklin bridge also you should be used to this plenty of westbound slowing coming out of the toll plaza here in camden because of the ongoing construction in the westbound right lane and you may see extra eastbound traffic on the ben over the next few hours because Florida Georgia Line is in camden tonight at the Susquehanna Bank center. Already people exiting into camden for that concert.
