Septa and patco started selling passes today for the week of the popes visit and the world meeting of families and if you got your hands on one, consider yourself lucky. John rawlins live in Chestnut Hill this afternoon and john as far as septa is concerned lets just say this didnt exactly go as planned. Reporter hi, alicia. Its hard to pitch this as anything as a pretty serious stumble out of the gate. Septa has 350,000 of those passes to sell. It managed to sell just 201 thats twozeroone today before its e commerce site crashed. I think we had about a triple the amount of people that we thought would come to the site so what we decided to do is to suspend the site until further notice. Reporter online sales for the papal rail passes began at 9 00 a. M. Within minutes the twitterverse was alive with complaints. At one point the cue for Customer Service phone calls to septa ballooned to 75. Many worried there was something wrong with their computers. Computers, they were frustrated. They were frustrated and they were afraid that maybe it was already sold out. Reporter that was not the case of course. Septas special e commerce site was the culprit. Over the weekend, consultants had tested it for a massive response. At one point they were flooding the system with up to 1700 hits per second and we also had up to and this is a testing mode, 900,000 visits to our site and it worked. But, you know, this morning it did not. Reporter ironically septa set up its special online papal weekend reservation system to avoid confusion for riders. By drastically restricting the number of Regional Rail stations that will be opened to just a handful and using reserve tickets the goal is still to avoid scenes at stations like this. This is from the 2008 phillies world series parade day where crowds of would be riders were stranded unable to board jammed trains. The hope is todays problem will be fixed. No one needs to panic. Were going to suspend the system and then fix the tweaks fix the issues and then begin sales again as soon as possible. Reporter so for now a post mortem of what went wrong today. The preliminary indications are it was just overwhelmed by numbers, that this was not a case of somebody making a malicious hack and then tomorrow we should hear from septa as to what the game plan will be as far as resuming sales of those passes. Live in Chestnut Hill, john rawlins, channel6 action news. Alicia. All right, john, thank you. Patco also started selling special freedom cards for the papal visit today. On september 26th and 27th nonstop service westbound to center city will be provided from the lindenwold, woodcrest, ferry avenue and broadway station only. And of course we first told you about septas pass problems today on our special twitter account thats dedicated to the popes visit. The city of wilmington is helping some people stay cool in this tremendous heat today. The senior fan drive is for people over the age of 65 who dont have access to air conditioning this summer. Action news was at the pickup office today inside the reading City Building on north front street again in wilmington. Its opened monday through friday until 4 00 in the afternoon and to qualify for a fan you do need to prove that you do in fact, live in wilmington. And it is just beastly hot out there. It is yes brutal and beastly would be accurate. We go over to meteorologist adam joseph tracking this weather and these conditions can be pretty dangerous for people out there. That beach looks like a good place to be. A Perfect Place to be to kind of break away from this really uncomfortable heat. As we look live on sky6 right now in cape may you can see the flags there are blowing inland meaning that the sea breeze has kicked in to some shore Communities Health some with the air helping some with the air temperature but it is still very uncomfortable how it feels even with the sea breeze. Feels like 103 in Sea Isle City t you head to the boardwalk in Atlantic City a little more on shore wind it feels like 85 degrees there 98 in beach haven and then as you head inland you can see 97 in millville, 98 in philadelphia, 94 in the Lehigh Valley so these numbers are not as high as they were yesterday. Thats the good news and they will continue to drop as we go later into the week. In fact, our dewpoints right now are 68 in philadelphia, 70 allentown, 68 in reading, 72 in Atlantic City. Any time these numbers are at 70 or above, it is oppressive out there and just adds to that very soupy summer atmosphere. But as we move forward into the week, tomorrow those dewpoints will drop again so it starts to turn drier on tuesday. As we go to 65 which is still humid but not oppressive and then by wednesday thursday, friday saturday, were in the 50s which is very comfortable for the Summer Season. In fact, this stretch of weather wednesday through the beginning of the weekend will be some of the nicest weve seen back to back this entire Summer Season. Satellite and radar, we have a cold front to our north and west but very little in the way of energy with it. So even though we have the heat and the humidity combined with the cold front approaching you would think we would have a huge eruption of storms but really that is not the case. We have a couple of little downpours that are popping. One just moved through salem right now now moving east of quaker neck road and route 49 just to the south and east of salem. Some heavy rain with that but it is beginning to fall apart but that is the only area on double scan getting wet at the present time. So as we go through the hours of the overnight were going to be in the upper 60s to mid 70s especially philadelphia down to the south. Very uncomfortable tonight. Warm and very muggy. There could be a stray downpour or thunderstorm to pop up in a couple of locations but most areas will stay dry and then future tracker temperatures tomorrow afternoon 93 philadelphia. A nice sea breeze at the shore, 70s to low 80s. Only 88 in allentown. So we wont have excessive heat for another day tomorrow. Thats the good sign and then as we go to wednesday afternoon, the Lehigh Valley 79 degrees, 84 in philadelphia, low to mid 80s at the shore. Thats when it will feel very comfortable and pleasant once you step outside. As we look at the four day at 4 00 hot but less humid tomorrow at 93 degrees. There could be a stray downpour or thunderstorm as a cold front does slide through tomorrow. Then sunny and nice, 85 on wednesday with that dropping humidity and we stay there thursday and friday a little below average for this time of year, middle 80s for highs pleasant, just a few clouds with wall to wall sunshine and well let you know how long this beautiful stretch is going the last coming up in that sevenday in the next half hour. Sounds great. Yes. Weve earned it. Yes, we have. Thanks adam. Okay. A thousand jobs were up for grabs in Montgomery County today. The coast to coast king of prussia career fair ran for three hours. It is 4 30 and action news continues with the story of a delaware man accused of going after his exs brakes following a breakup. Plus, he battled hatred with a simple act of humanity. Why this photo of a Police Officer helping a Senior Citizen escape the South Carolina heat has so many people talking. A Delaware County mother went out for breakfast with her toddler but wound up in jail. What shes accused of doing while in the Dunkin Donuts drive through that eventually landed her behind bars. But were going to begin here at 4 30 with another day of dangerous heat across the delaware valley. From the steamy streets of wilmington to the sweltering skyline over center city, i think most of us can agree theres only one place to be today and thats the view on the lower right portion of your screen, cape makes the beach. Lets head to adam joseph for more on why the worst is actually over, right thats the good news . Yes, that is the good news. Were moving deeper into the week and as we go through your tuesday and especially wednesday, the humidity is going to drop so then you dont get those oppressive feellike numbers or that heat index. Its still very uncomfortable this afternoon. We have a heat warning and a heat advisory in effect until 8 oclock with a heat index near 100 for a few locations but most of us will stay below that threshold as the atmosphere is starting to dry out a little bit. In fact, right now were 94 in philadelphia just 89 in allentown reading not bad in lancaster, 87 degrees, 90 millville. There you can see along the shore from beach haven to Sea Isle City in the upper 80s. You factor in the humidity and its really only those far southern areas that are feeling above 100 this afternoon. Otherwise, it feels like 93 in reading, 94 in allentown, 98 in philadelphia. 99 in wilmington. Again, not as dangerous as yesterday but still you want to take it slow this evening. Drink plenty of fluids. Check on the pets and of course the elderly and the young ones. As we look at double scan live radar weve had one downpour that moved through parts of salem county starting to wash itself out. Tracking downpours far south on route one near llewes delaware and Rehoboth Beach right on the split of route one and nine slowly drifting to the south and east but thats the only other downpour in addition to the one in salem county at the present time. Your evening planner, there will be a scattered downpour to pop in a couple locations. Most of us stay dry. Near 90 through 7 oclock, 89 at 8 oclock and then well drop back into the middle 80s by 10 oclock tonight and we will talk about that beautiful stretch, that big change that starts to arrive tomorrow afternoon but especially on wednesday. Well show you those dropping numbers coming up in that full accuweather forecast. Alicia. Adam thank you. When breaking news or weather happens in your area we invite you to join the action. Unfortunately these are eastbound lanes of the schuylkill as you make your way up towards the conshohocken curve. We have an accident there as well. So really slow going on the schuylkill expressway and on the blue route right now. Well show you an earlier accident we had on the blue route southbound right at broomall. That has been cleared out so were hoping to see those travel times and those speeds start to pick up. Taking a look at the schuylkill expressway, you can see 10 miles an hour the whole stretch. Nice long red line there. You can see both directions really taking a about 45 minutes in both directions from blue route to the vine or the vine to the blue route. Moving along and showing you a picture of the ben franklin bridge, our westbound lanes into philadelphia you can see were down two lanes because of construction. Not looking too badly in those eastbound lanes as you make your way over into new jersey. All the other area bridges looking clear not too much construction out there to worry about at this hour. And a few incidents to tell you about. The first one concorde township route 202 namaans creek road and one last one for you in downingtown green street and lancaster avenue. At least the peek of the heat and humidity was yesterday so were starting to get a little more comfortable day by day especially by wednesday. Some relief. Finally. As we take a look right now double scan live radar we had one downpour that moved right over downtown salem and parts of salem county but that has faded off of the radar scope. Right now everyone is just hot and dry and in fact, yes, it is hot but it is not official al heat wave at this point because saturday we hit 89 degrees in philadelphia. The way to have a heat wave or the way you can hit that criteria is to have three consecutive days of 90 degrees or above. Yesterday we were 95, today we were 94. Tomorrow we will go into the 90s so tomorrow this officially will be heat wave number two of the Summer Season. Yeah, weve only had one so far this summer. 87 right now cape may. That beautiful sea breeze helping out at the shore. 84 in margate. 84 in surf city and then as you head inland millville 91 degrees, 89 in allentown so the temperatures this afternoon are not horrific out there. Theyre not like yesterday and the dewpoints arent as high either. So the heat index is below 100 degrees across much of the area including the heart of the delaware valley, wilmington allentown and reading. But to the south even though there is that sea breeze, thats pulling in very humid air, so that is why it feels more uncomfortable at the shore despite that the air temperature is lower. How its feeling, those dewpoints are above 70 degrees across much of the area, so its still rather oppressive outside but as we look at future tracker went go into tomorrow afternoon at 2 oclock, notice the dewpoints are dropping into the lower and the middle 60s especially from philadelphia to the north and west. Thats some of that drier air starting to filter in. Still very tropical at the shore tomorrow afternoon and then by wednesday at 2 oclock, everyones dipping back into the 50s so that is a breath of fresh air with canadian High Pressure coming in for the middle of the week. There is a cold front though, to the north and west. Not much in the way of activity with it but as it slides through here tomorrow there could be a scattered downpour or thunderstorm in a few locations but for tonight its warm, its muggy. There could be a popup here or there, 70 to 78 degrees. But as were tracking this front tomorrow, one more hot day of 93 but less humidity as that drier air is trying to pull in with that high. Again a scattered storm is possible tomorrow afternoon and then High Pressure comes in a beautiful change wednesday, seasonable with a High Temperature of 85. The exclusive accuweather 7day forecast, 93 tomorrow, hot but less humid. And again a stray thunderstorm. And then wednesday thursday, friday into saturday temperatures in the middle 80s lots of sunshine, very few clouds, low humidity as well so a beautiful stretch ahead and then some changes come in sunday as the humidity goes up. There could be a scattered thunderstorm on sunday afternoon but a better chance comes in on monday with a temperature of 86 degrees. So, one more day in the 90s, guys and then were done with it as we go into the end of july as its looking right now. Were over it. [laughter] two days and were already over it. Thanks adam.
