West Perth council recommended the purchase of a second tanker for the West Perth Fire Department (WPFD) at their meeting April 6, specifically a 6,800-litre (1,800 gallons) single axle tanker, that will arrive no later than October.
The tanker will replace a 1996 tanker that will be taken off the road this August once it’s 25-year life ends, leaving at least a two-month window where just one tanker will be available for the WPFD to fight rural fires.
