As elementary schools reopened on Jan. 11, Jennifer Dorner decided to keep her daughter home for an extra week. She had learned about COVID-19 cases at the school over the holidays and wanted to play it safe.
When 11-year-old Odessa returned to class the next week, at École Lajoie in Outremont, she was equipped with a tool from her father: a homemade carbon dioxide monitor to gauge how well her classroom is ventilated.
