Bryan Peter Brown, 61, of Harbour Terrace, Workington, appeared at the town's magistrates court on Wednesday.
He faced one charge of assault by beating relating to an alleged incident on October 2 2020 in Whitehaven.
Brown denied the charge, and will face trial on August 10 at Workington Magistrates Court.
