Workers on Monday stopped a sewage overflow that spanned several days on the campus of a Portland school, authorities say.
Crews estimated about 37,000 gallons of sewage overflowed from a manhole near the northern perimeter of the West Hills Christian School, according to the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services. The overflow may have started Dec. 23.
The flow, which had no reported odor, flowed across the schoolâs track and south across a parking lot, according to the bureau. The sewage then drained into a stormwater inlet.
Diluted sewage may have reached a creek that flows into Tryon Creek, the bureau said. An investigation has been launched, and the bureau said people should avoid contact with creek water for two days because of a possible increase in bacteria.
