Worker killed in trench collapse near Buccaneer Stadium is identified
A construction worker who was killed in a trench collapse near Buccaneer Stadium on Monday has been identified.
The man was identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office as Jason Villalobos, 21, of Houston. The cause of his death is pending autopsy.
The Corpus Christi Fire Department responded to an emergency call around noon at the location near Leopard Street and Buddy Lawrence Drive.
Fire Chief Robert Rocha said there was construction down the street and those workers were involved in the collapse. The workers were not city employees.
Fire crews managed to secure site and retrieve the body around 7:30 p.m., according to Rocha.
