Later, police say they spotted a vehicle traveling nearby that matched the description of the one driven by the man witnesses said was involved in the shooting. After officers initiated a traffic stop, the vehicle stopped on the northbound lanes of Interstate 95, just north of the Gateway Boulevard exit. There, Antoine, 39, turned the gun on himself, according to police.
Detectives said the names of the woman and the child will not be released because family members invoked their right to privacy under a Florida constitutional amendment — modeled on California's Marsy's Law — that voters approved in November 2018.
Antoine was originally found guilty of attempted murder in 2011, but the jury could not reach a consensus on whether he committed murder or if he acted in self-defense. He was later sentenced to 40 years in prison for the attempted murder, but the conviction was overturned in 2014. In his 2015 retrial, the jury acquitted him of all charges, court records show.
